Although he hasn’t had his best year on the ATP Tour, Novak Djokovic earned the top seed in Paris and won his first-round match against Aussie Matthew Ebden 6-0, 6-1.

Djokovic will now play Rafael Nadal in the second round in what should be an absolute treat for tennis fans.

Nadal is the most accomplished player in French Open history and is always a threat at Roland Garros.

He earned a first-round win in three sets over Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

In other notable action, defending Olympic champion Alexander Zverev beat Spaniard Jaume Munar in the first round.

Other top-five seeds Daniil Medvedev, playing as an Independent Neutral Athlete, and Alcaraz are through to the second round with straight set first-round victories.

Djokovic has been playing better as of late, despite coming up short in three sets in a disappointing Wimbledon final against Alcaraz.

He might not be on the level of young phenoms Alcaraz and Sinner, but he is still one of the best players in the world and capable of winning any tournament he enters.

With that said, Nadal is the “King of Clay” for a reason.

The 14-time French Open winner excels at Roland Garros and might just have one more notable moment left before he rides off into the sunset.

Nadal is 8-2 against Djokovic in the French Open.

There’s a sizable gap in ability between the two players at this point in their careers, especially with all of the injuries Nadal has dealt with lately.

But Djokovic has had his own injury troubles this season and, with it being only a three-set match, Nadal could very well score the upset.

Dan Evans (+880) vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas (-2273)

This is a bit more wishful thinking, but it wouldn’t be completely surprising if Dan Evans were to beat eighth-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Olympics are known for being unpredictable and, with few upsets in the first round, expect some in the second round.

Evans is the defending champion at the DC Citi Open, which is taking place this week in Washington, so he could use that as a motivator in Paris.

Tsitsipas is 4-0 against Evans, but has had a disappointing season.

He is ranked No. 12 in the world after losing four of his last 10 matches and is just 10-5 on hard courts.

He needed three sets to win his opening round match against Zizou Bergs, who is ranked No. 73.

Longshot Picks

If the Olympics were anywhere but Paris, there would be some potential interesting longshot picks.

But Alcaraz is likely to continue his dominance on clay and make a run to the final.

With that said, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev are decent longshot picks.

Auger-Aliassime has shown signs of getting his game back on track in 2024 and has improved considerably on clay, whereas Medvedev was a runner-up in the Australian Open and reached the semis at Wimbledon, indicating he could be due for a major victory this year.
