Can Edmonton Even Things Up on Home Ice? | Vegas Golden Knights vs. Edmonton Oilers

West 2nd Round – Game 4, VGK leads series 2-1
When: Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Rogers Place, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
TV / Streaming: ESPN

Game One of the Oilers-Golden Knights series was as close as things have been all series. Vegas took that game with a 6-4 win, but since then, teams have traded 5-1 scorelines. Whichever team figures out consistency first will be the team to advance.

Leon Draisaitl has been on a heater this postseason with 13 goals and 17 points through nine games. The next closest player in goals whose team is still alive in the playoffs is Jack Hughes, with six. However, Vegas held Draisaitl without a point in Game Three. Expect to find him on the scoresheet in Game Four.

Laurent Brossoit may be out for the Vegas Golden Knights after leaving Game Three with an injury. If he’s out, Adin Hill will make his first career playoff start. Hill posted a 16-7-1 record in the regular season with a 2.50 GAA and a .915 save percentage.

Edmonton is 6-6 at home in the playoffs over the past two postseasons, while Vegas is 3-0 this postseason and 7-5 on the road over their past two playoff appearances (the Golden Knights missed the playoffs in 2022).

The Edmonton Oilers are -180 on the moneyline in this one, while Vegas is +155. Given the back-and-forth nature of the series, perhaps a play of Edmonton on the puck line at +125 is the smarter play.

Get Your Brooms Out! | Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers

East 2nd Round – Game 4, FLA leads series 3-0
When: Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: FLA Live Arena, Sunrise, Florida
TV / Streaming: ESPN

Florida’s team defense has completely shut down the Toronto Maple Leafs through the first three games of this series. Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews, William Nylander, and John Tavares have all been held without a goal and have combined for four points.

Making things even more difficult for Toronto, goaltender Ilya Samsonov will not be in the lineup after suffering an injury in Game Three. With their season on the line, the Maple Leafs will turn to Justin Woll to make his first career playoff start.

Woll relieved Samsonov in Game Three, stopping 18 of 21 shots, but it’s admittedly a bit odd they didn’t choose to start Matt Murray, who has much more playoff experience but hasn’t played since early April due to an injury (Murray is healthy and will serve as Woll’s backup).

Meanwhile, the Florida Panthers have all the momentum. Their star players like Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk have been lighting up the scoreboard while also playing responsibly in their own end. Tkachuk is the Conn Smythe favorite as playoff MVP at +550.

However, it’s not just the stars stepping up, but the role players making an impact, too, that has Florida in position to sweep. Defenseman Brandon Montour has scored six goals through 10 games. Radko Gudas and Sam Bennett both rank in the top 10 in postseason hits, and six Panthers skaters have 10+ blocked shots.

Despite being down 3-0 in the series, the Maple Leafs are moneyline favorites at -125. It’s tough to earn the sweep, but it’s certainly easier when you’re at home for Game Four. We’re taking Florida at +105 to win on Wednesday.
