NFL Betting Predictions: Quick Looks to Think about after Week Preseason

The second week of preseason is now upon us, with a full slate of games set to go over the next few days. While it is difficult to really take anything from these matchups in terms of looking ahead to the regular season, we do get to see some glimpses of what might be. This is particularly true when looking at how rookies and players moving to new teams might perform over the course of the 3-game preseason schedule each team plays. After the opening week of the preseason games, I am willing to make some early NFL betting predictions in a number of different categories, knowing full well that these may blow up in my face. Team Most Likely to Go OVER the Win Total

The win totals are always a tricky, albeit fun, wager that’s worth investing a few bucks in. After going through the win totals for all 32 teams, I have picked out one that looks to be a good bet to me. The Minnesota Vikings, who are coming off a 13-win season, are on the board with 8 ½ wins this season. Yes, they are in a bit of a transition mode right now and will take a backward step, but I don’t think the fall off will be that dramatic.

Team Most Likely to Go UNDER the Win Total

The team that I am choosing here may come as a bit of a surprise to some. There is a lot of hope that the bad years could be over for the New York Jets now that they have Aaron Rodgers under center, but all the stories that I am seeing coming out of camp appear to be of the negative variety. The Jets win total is set at 9 ½, which, for me at least, is a little on the high side of things.

Most Likely Division Winner

In the second half of last season, there were few teams as good as the Jacksonville Jaguars. They dug themselves out of a 3-7 hole to win 6 of their last 7 games, win the division, and head into the Wild Card. They then delivered a comeback for the ages to knock off the LA Chargers and come into this season brimming with confidence. The AFC South looks pretty weak, which is why I think the Jags can continue to roll this season and win the South at odds of -152.

Solid Wild Card Pick

One of the best races to watch every season is the battle for Wild Card spots, which very often goes all the way down to the final play of the regular season. There are a few teams that I like to miss out on a division crown but still make the postseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers are at the top of that list. They were very much in a transition year in 2022, yet they still managed to pick up 9 wins. Kenny Pickett will be better this season and I think he helps his team into the postseason.

Regular Season MVP

More often than not, it is a QB who walks away with the regular season MVP award. I think it will be more of the same this year, and while the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow are easy picks, I am looking elsewhere. I think we are going to see the Chargers have a solid season led by Justin Herbert, who just signed a massive new contract. I like him to go out and justify that big dollar sign.
