While the calendar may have just turned over inti the New Year, we are not that far away from the start of spring training and the 2023 MLB season. In fact, the first spring training games are just over a month away, so we are at the point where hope springs eternal for every team, even though we are all well aware that some teams are going to be pretty awful this season. All of that brings us to thinking about how things might play out this season. At this stage, it’s all guesswork, as you never really know what a team will do once the actions begins, even when they have spent big in the offseason. Rather than talking about the World Series now, let’s look at potential winners of each division so you can bet against their MLB Odds.
Targeting the Best Future Bets & Picks of the 2023 MLB Season
AMERICAN LEAGUE
- East
The Yankees won the East in a bit of a canter last season, and after locking down Aaron Judge to a new contract, they are likely to be the favorites to win it again. They will have a couple of teams pushing them all the way, though, as Tampa Bay and Toronto both figure to be decent this season. Both were in the Wild Card last year.
- Central
To say that the division was lopsided last year is putting things rather mildly. The Cleveland Guardians won it by 11 games and were the only team to finish above .500. They are the favorite to repeat this season, but don’t sleep on the Chicago White Sox, as I expect them to be better in 2023. The Minnesota Twins might also have a say.
- West
The Houston Astros, who just happen to be the defending World Series champions, are once again going to be the favorite to win the West, which they did in a stroll last season. Their biggest challengers appear to be the Seattle Mariners, who made it into the Wild Card last season.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
- East
The East turned into an exciting 2-horse race between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets. I would not be surprised to see more of the same this time around, with the bookies seeming to agree. The Philadelphia Phillies are not going to be far off the pace, though, so this could be a fun division to keep an eye on.
- Central
It was the St. Louis Cardinals who won the division last season, ending up 7 games clear of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cards were the only team to go to the playoffs last season, but the Brewers might have a shot this time around. The Cubs could potentially be a bit of a dark horse this season, so keep an eye on them.
- West
This division belongs to the LA Dodgers, with the other teams just living there rent free. If any of the other teams in the West can put pressure on the Dodgers in 2023, it would most likely be the San Diego Padres, who did make it into the Wild Card. LA won the division by a whopping 22 games last season, so that is a big gap that needs to be closed.
