NFL Week 1 Quarterback Matchups Predictions for Each Game
2022 NFL Week 1
- When: Thursday, September 8 – Monday, September 12
Buffalo – Josh Allen at LAR – Matthew Stafford | Thursday, September 8
Supposedly, Matthew Stafford’s elbow is one-hundred percent. But even if Staff has a fantastic day throwing the football, there’s no way he outplays Josh Allen. Rams stars Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Floyd are questionable. So Allen should have a great game.
Top QB: Josh Allen
New Orleans – Jameis Winston at Atlanta – Marcus Mariota | Sunday, September 11
In 2019, Jameis Winston led the NFL in passing yards. This season, Jameis has enough weapons to make your head spin. Mariota has no shot versus the Saints’ D.
Top QB: Jameis Winston
San Francisco – Trey Lance at Chicago – Justin Fields | Sunday, September 11
Both players have talent. The difference in the game is their supporting casts. Deebo Samuel plays for San Francisco so Lance gets the nod.
Top QB: Trey Lance
Pittsburgh – Mitch Trubisky at Cincinnati – Joe Burrow | Sunday, September 11
Cool Joe should carve up the Pittsburgh defense because Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is questionable. Even if Watt plays, Burrow exposes Pittsburgh. Trubisky isn’t doing more this season than keeping the QB1 chair warm for Kenny Pickett.
Top QB: Joe Burrow
Philadelphia – Jalen Hurts at Detroit – Jared Goff | Sunday, September 11
Hurts should outplay Goff. Jalen has more weapons. But Goff has experience and this happens in Detroit. The Lions QB has the better game.
Top QB: Jared Goff
New England – Mac Jones at Miami – Tua Tagovailoa | Sunday, September 11
Patriots gunslinger Mac Jones had to learn a new system. Tua Tagovailoa gets to throw to Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Mike Gesicki, one of the best tight-ends in football. Tua outplays Mac.
Top QB: Tua Tagovailoa
Baltimore – Lamar Jackson at NYJ – Zach Wilson | Sunday, September 11
Wilson may not play. If he doesn’t, Joe Flacco will. Flacco never posted brilliant stats. Ever. So Jackson gets the nod.
Top QB: Lamar Jackson.
Jacksonville – Trevor Lawrence at Washington – Carson Wentz | Sunday, September 11
Wentz versus Lawrence should be fun. The real key is what happens on the defensive side. The Jaguars defense will play better because Washington DE Chase Young is out.
Top QB: Trevor Lawrence
Cleveland – Jacoby Brissett at Carolina – Baker Mayfield | Sunday, September 11
Brissett is a backup. Baker isn’t. Also, Mayfield will have revenge on his mind.
Top QB: Baker Mayfield.
Indianapolis – Matt Ryan at Houston – Davis Mills | Sunday, September 11
Ryan has too many weapons for Davis Mills to outplay him. Mills will do what he can and he’s a good quarterback, a legit QB1, but if Ryan has a great season, a hall of fame bust could be in his future.
Top QB: Matt Ryan
NYG – Daniel Jones at Tennessee – Ryan Tannehill | Sunday, September 11
Tannehill has more experience and is a good quarterback. Ryan could have an excellent game. But we should take a chance on Jones. Brian Daboll, NYG’s new head coach, is one of the most creative offensive coordinators in the league. Daniel can post terrific stats in both the passing and rushing games.
Top QB: Daniel Jones
Green Bay – Aaron Rodgers at Minnesota – Kirk Cousins | Sunday, September 11
Rodgers always has big games versus the rival Vikings. However, wideout Justin Jefferson catches passes from Kirk Cousins. So Kirk should have the better stats.
Top QB: Kirk Cousins
Kansas City – Patrick Mahomes at Arizona – Kyler Murray | Sunday, September 11
Murray’s favorite target, DeAndre Hopkins, must miss the first six games of the season. Mahomes will light up an okay but not great AZ defense.
Top QB: Patrick Mahomes
Tampa Bay – Tom Brady at Dallas – Dak Prescott | Sunday, September 11
If you’re a Brady fan, you’ve got to worry for your dude. Brady not only faces Dallas’ fearsome defense, but he plays behind an offensive line with three new faces. Dak can dominate a Tampa D that ranked twenty-first versus the pass last season.
Top QB: Dak Prescott
Denver – Russell Wilson at Seattle – Geno Smith | Monday, Sep. 12
In his first game as a Denver Bronco, Wilson returns to the Emerald City. Geno Smith gets the start but he may not play the whole game. So it’s impossible to know how well Smith will perform. We know Denver didn’t trade for Russell so he could hand the ball off to Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon III all day.
Top QB: Russell Wilson
