Writer’s to Win the Next Washington Open

Jannik Sinner

The defending champion and one of the top eight seeds to receive a bye into the second round, Jannik Sinner is the world No.

1 but still has plenty to prove in Montreal.

He was easily the most dominant player in the sport during the first half of the season, but Carlos Alcaraz has since won the French Open, Wimbledon, and reached an Olympic final.

Sinner missed the Olympics due to a bout of tonsillitis and faces a relatively tough draw at the National Bank Open.

Notably, Sinner could face either Lorenzo Sonego or Frances Tiafoe in the third round and both players have been playing well as of late.

Tommy Paul, who has enjoyed a breakthrough year, is a potential fourth-round opponent.

Still, Sinner is 42-4 this season and 17-1 on hard courts.

He’s the betting favorite to win the tournament and, without Alcaraz in the field, should march to the final.

Alexander Zverev

Alexander Zverev came into the Olympics as the defending gold medal winner, but had a disappointing week, losing to eventual bronze medal winner Lorenzo Musetti in the quarter-finals.

Zverev is 47-14 this season, including 18-6 on hard courts.

He is 7-3 in his last 10 matches.

Zverev will play the winner of Jordan Thompson and Jack Draper in the second round.

Thompson is 2-1 in three matches against Zverev, so the German has a tough road to the final in this year’s National Bank Open.

He’s in the same quarter section of the bracket as other contenders such as sixth seed Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz, and Sebastian Korda, who is coming off a title at the Mubadala Citi DC Open.

Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev also had a tough Olympics, losing in the third round to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is a notable absence from his country’s national open as he played in the bronze medal match in Paris.

Medvedev will be happy to play on hard courts again as he is 18-4 on the surface this season for an 82 percent winning percentage, his best rate on all surfaces this year.

He’s 35-11 overall.

Despite his decent record, Medvedev has yet to win a title this season and it feels like he’s due.

He was runner-up at the Australian Open and Indian Wells and reached the semis at Wimbledon, Miami, and Dubai.

2024 Canadian Open Final Prediction

Medvedev, as mentioned, is due for a win.

The 20-time ATP winner hasn’t won a tournament this year, has just four losses on hard court, and arguably has the easiest path to the semi-finals.

The top contenders in his section include Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ugo Humbert, and Karen Khachanov.

He would likely have to beat Sinner in the semis, but he has been close in the past and is more than capable of winning any match in which he plays.

ATP Pick: Medvedev def. Ruud

ATP 2023 National Bank Open Odds Analysis, Betting Favorites, and Predictions

Previous Betting News

A mandatory Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, the National Bank Open, or the Canadian Open, is the most prominent event ahead of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season: the U.S. Open. An outdoor hard court tournament, the National Bank Open is among the oldest tennis events in the world, having first been held 133 years ago.

The winner of the tournament receives 1000 ranking points and more than $1 million. It’ll be quite the challenge, however, as the majority of the world’s top players are in Toronto for the tournament – the women are playing in the non-mandatory WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal.

That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming National Bank Open tournament so you can bet against the ATP betting lines.

National Bank Open Past Champions

Not surprisingly, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have each enjoyed tremendous success at the Canadian Open in the 21st century. Nadal won his first of five titles in 2005 and won in back-to-back years in 2018 and 2019. Djokovic, meanwhile, won four titles from 2007 to 2016. Neither player will be competing in this year’s tournament.

Andy Murray, who is competing in Toronto, is a three-time champion, having won in 2009, 2010, and 2015. Pablo Carreno Busta is the reigning champion, defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the finals of last year’s tournament. Daniil Medvedev, also competing this year, won in 2021.

A Look at the Draw

With 56 players in the draw, there are plenty of intriguing first-round matches, even with the top eight seeds receiving a bye into the second round. Alcaraz, who has the shortest odds to win the tournament, awaits the winner of Ben Shelton and fellow Spaniard Barnabe Zapata Miralles in the second round. Rune, Tsitsipas, and Sinner are the other three players to receive a bye in the top half of the bracket.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Rublev, Fritz, Ruud, and Medvedev all receive a bye into the second round.

First-Round Betting Picks

Alexander Bublik (+175) vs. Hubert Hurkacz (-225)

We’re looking for value in first-round betting picks, and this is a match with upset potential. Hurkacz was a finalist in last year’s tournament but is coming off of a first-round loss at the Citi Open and hasn’t necessarily been having a great season.

Bublik is also coming off of a first-round loss at the Citi Open and is just 1-5 in his career against Hurkacz but does have a win on an outdoor hard court over Hurkacz. Bublik is 8-2 in his last ten matches, while Hurkacz is 4-6.

Gael Monfils (-125) vs. Christopher Eubanks (+100)

Christopher Eubanks took the tennis world by storm at Wimbledon, reaching the quarter-finals, but he is 1-2 in his last three matches, whereas Monfils, a former world No. 6, who has played sparingly this season, is 2-1 in his last three matches. He reached the Round of 16 at the Citi Open.

These two have never played, which should give an advantage to the more experienced Monfils.

2023 National Bank Open Outright Prediction

Despite the loaded field in Canada, it’s tough to bet against Alcaraz, who is 47-4 this season with six titles. He’s well rested, having not played since beating Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, and is the most dominant player in the sport right now.

ATP 1000 – 2021 National Bank Open Betting Preview: Nadal Arrives As the Reigning Champion

Previous Betting News

The 2021 National Bank Open (also known as the 2021 Canadian Open) are outdoor hard court tennis tournaments for both men and women. They will take place on August 6-15 in Toronto, Ontario for men and Montreal, Quebec for women.

MyBookie brings you a full betting preview for the 2021 National Bank Open, where we take a look at the field of the competitors and provide you with all the information you’ll need to place bets on ATP Betting Odds.

2021 National Bank Open Tennis Analysis & Predictions | ATP Betting

2021 National Bank Open

When: August 6-15
Where: Aviva Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A Stacked Field

The 2021 National Bank Open will feature a very stacked field on the men’s side. Although the current no.1, Novak Djokovic won’t be attending the event; there will be plenty of world-class talent in Toronto, competing for the lion’s share of the prize pool and glory that comes with winning the second-oldest tennis tournament (behind only Wimbledon).

Leading the field is the current no.2 Daniil Medvedev as the top-seeded player at 2021 National Bank Open. Rounding up the top-five seeds are Rafael Nadal (no.3), Stefanos Tsitsipas (no.4), Andrey Rublev (no.7), and Denis Shapovalov (no.10).

Seeds 5-10 will include the surging Casper Ruud (no12), Hubert Hurkacz (no.13), Diego Schwartzman (no.14), Félix Auger-Aliassime (no.15), and Roberto Bautista Agut (no.16).

A lot on the Line for Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal travels to Toronto as the reigning champion, having won the National Bank Open in 2019, when he beat Daniil Medvedev with 6-3, 6-0. It marked his fifth National Bank Open title in his career and his second in two years, having already won it in 2018 against Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-2, 7-6).

Nadal is the winningest player at the tournament and the only player in the field who has won here before. Obviously, the Spaniard will want to deliver in Toronto, where he could break three records.

If Nadal ends up winning the 2021 National Bank Open, he will become the sole Masters 100 record-holder. He is currently level with Novak Djokovic with 26 Masters 1000 titles; however, Djokovic’s withdrawal now gives Nadal a shot at claiming the sole ownership of the record for the most Masters titles.

Even if he fails to win, Nadal will have another shot at breaking the record at the Cincinnati Masters.

At the 2021 National Bank Open, Nadal could also become the first man to register 400 match wins at the Masters 1000. He has 398 match wins to his name with an outstanding 398-83 win/loss ratio at this level.

If Nadal reaches only the 2021 National Bank Open finals, he would equal Djokovic’s record for the most Masters 1000 finals. The Mallorcan has made it to the finals of a Masters 1000 event 52 times and is one short of Djokovic at 53.

Who Will Win the National Bank Open?

Barring any surprise last-minute withdrawals, the battle for the National Bank Open will likely come down to three men – Nadal, Tsitsipas, and Medvedev.

Many people will favor Nadal, which is entirely fair. He has proven his worth at the National Bank Open before and is the most experienced player out of the group of the leading betting favorites when it comes to winning big tournaments.

Having said that, you could make a strong case for Medvedev and Tsitsipas, who are both in great form. We like Medvedev slightly better out of the two, largely due to his strong record on hard courts. The Russian tennis star is 16/3 on the year on hard courts and 54/15 across the last three years. That translates to a 78.26% win rate.

Across his career, Medvedev has won 142 of 196 matches on hard courts (142/54) with a 72.45% success rate. In comparison, Tsitsipas’ career win rate on the surface is at 63.98% and is 16/4 on the year.
