NBA Championship Odds Update: Nets Still Favorites, Suns Are the Smart Choice

The NBA season has passed its midway point, with the All-Star break approaching and teams starting to separate themselves from the pack in their respective conferences. With that separation has come some interesting movement in the latest NBA championship odds. Here, we take a look at the teams with the top-five odds to win the title, as these teams look to begin their playoff pushes.

Updated National Basketball Association Championship Odds

Brooklyn Nets +255

The Brooklyn Nets are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference this season, but find themselves as the favorite to win the NBA Finals. The reason for that, of course, is that they possess the most upside of any team in the league when they are healthy and all on the floor. With Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden in the same lineup, the Nets are a juggernaut when firing on all cylinders.

For Brooklyn, the question this season is whether or not they will ever be able to live up to their upside on a consistent basis. Kevin Durant is dealing with injuries, while Kyrie Irving is only allowed to play in road games for the foreseeable future. Both of those problems could keep the Nets from following through as the favorites to win the Finals this season.

Golden State Warriors +440

Golden State has the second-best record in the NBA behind the Phoenix Suns, thanks in large part to their defense. The Warriors have the best scoring defense in the NBA this season, to go along with a potent offense headlined by Steph Curry and a returning Klay Thompson. Even with Thompson just getting his feet back under him and Curry going through a small shooting slump, the Warriors have won 37 of their first 50 games.

Phoenix Suns +580

From a sheer value perspective, the Phoenix Suns may be the best option to choose from when betting on NBA championship odds. Phoenix has had two separate double-digit win steaks this season. Even with some of their top stars like DeAndre Ayto missing chunks of time. So far, Phoenix has shown no ill effects from losing in last year’s NBA Finals.

Milwaukee Bucks +630

The defending champion Milwaukee Bucks sit in the fourth-best odds to win this season’s NBA Finals. Milwaukee is finally getting healthy, as extended absences for bench players like Donte DiVincenzo have pushed the Bucks back to fifth in the East to this point in the year. But with Giannis Antetokounmpo there to lead them, and the rest of their big three currently healthy, the Bucks have a great shot at a second straight ring.

Utah Jazz +940

Rounding out the top five favorites to win the NBA championship is the Utah Jazz. A top-four team in the West for most of the season, the Jazz have the most explosive offense in the league and take more three-point shots than any team. While the Jazz have to overcome the recent loss of Donovan Mitchell during this regular season, they are expected to be a threat to go deep in the playoffs again this year.
