Daily Line NBA: San Antonio Spurs Analysis

The Spurs are in their worst stretch of the season, losing six of seven games, including a 128-107 loss in Miami.

San Antonio’s third consecutive defeat was by double digits. Miami took a five-point lead in the first half, but Jovic’s 3-pointer ended the spurt, putting the Heat ahead 71-52. The Heat missed their first eight 3-point attempts and finished 18 of 33.

Victor Wembanyama

Superstar Wembanyama racked up 21 points, 10 rebounds and a block in 30 minutes. Wembanyama has now recorded 19 double-doubles this season, seven of which have come to his last eight appearances.

The former No. 1 draft pick and current NBA Rookie of the Year is averaging 22.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and 3.9 blocks in his last 10 games, leading the league in blocks.

Wembanyama, meanwhile, is very eager to play two games in his native France as the Spurs and Pacers will also play Saturday.

“There are a lot of emotions, seeing familiar people, whether from the club or even from the city,” Wembanyama said. “It’s a bit like two worlds meeting. It’s special, you don’t expect that in a career. It’s a bit my way of making people happy who will never have the opportunity to go to the United States. It’s very important to me.”

Devin Vassell

Vassell scored 23 points, adding three rebounds and two assists, marking four straight games with 21+ points and three 3-pointers. Chris Paul contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and nine assists.

Stephon Castle

Castle, the 2024 draft’s No. 4 pick, scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, ranks in five rookie categories, and is ninth in blocks and tenth in free throw percentage.

Jeremy Sochan

The young forward has missed the past five games for the Spurs with a back injury but is listed as questionable for Thursday and that’s an upgrade, so Sochan might play. He’s averaging 13.4 points and 8.4 rebounds this season.

Gregg Popovich

As for Hall of Fame coach Popovich, nobody knows when or if Popovich will be back on the Spurs’ sideline from his stroke suffered in early November. His presence is still felt, however, with behind-the-scenes communication with players and staff.

Mitch Johnson

Acting coach Johnson took over on almost no notice in November, and the Spurs are 17-19 since: “We are in contact constantly. He is watching games, still as opinionated as he’s ever been, and competitive, and what you would think — giving praise and cussing me out, all at the same time.”

The Spurs already had a connection to France, with Hall of Fame guard Tony Parker playing most of his career in San Antonio, and former countryman teammate Boris Diaw playing four-and-a-half seasons there.

Daily Line NBA: Indiana Pacers Analysis

Indiana won 115-102 against Philadelphia, extending their six-point lead to 13. The Sixers were missing five key players due to injuries, including Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Kyle Lowry.

Indiana’s team’s health has significantly improved, and they are now in playoff form, with coach Rick Carlisle’s team showing signs of depth.

Tyrese Haliburton

All-Star point guard Haliburton had an off game in shooting 4-for-11 overall and 1-for-7 from deep to finish with nine points, nine assists and five rebounds – he was unable to record double-digit points for the second time in his last three games.

Haliburton averaged 19.0 points, 9.5 assists on 50% shooting in January. He’s fifth in assists and assists-per-turnover ratio, aiding Indiana’s strong record.

Pascal Siakam

Siakam scored 21 points, with eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks, missing a double-double by two rebounds. He has scored over 20 points in five of his last six games, averaging 23.2 points, and has reached 20+ points in 11 of 17 recent games.

Myles Turner

Turner recorded his second double-double in four games, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Since January, he’s averaging 17.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks, and has averaged 11.8 points and 5.0 assists post-injury.

In their last nine games, the Pacers averaged 117.2 points, shooting 50.1%, outscoring opponents by 11.3. Since December 13, they improved to 14-4, allowing 109.5 points.

Indiana previously played regular season games as part of NBA Global Games London in 2017 as they traveled to face the Denver Nuggets. The Pacers are a part of the NBA Global Games for the first time since the 2019 preseason, when they traveled to Mumbai.
