The San Francisco Giants rarely visit Fenway Park during interleague play but open a three-game series against the Red Sox there Tuesday night in a bit of a homecoming for Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski considering his Hall of Fame grandfather was one of the great Red Sox players in history. The Giants are short favorites on the MLB odds.
Fenway Park will witness the start of this series that brings you opportunities to win your MLB bets starting tonight.

For the first time since his rookie season, Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski will get to play on the same field that his grandfather did for 23 seasons. Yastrzemski, 33, last played in Fenway Park in 2019. With the Giants heading to Boston for a three-game series against the Red Sox starting on Tuesday, he’ll have another chance to play in front of fans who have idolized his last name for generations.
Carl Yastrzemski is considered the greatest living Red Sox player whose statue stands outside the ballpark. In his Fenway Park debut five years ago, Yastrzemski played left field, the spot Carl manned for two decades, and homered to center. Mike homered against the Pirates on Sunday and has batted over .300 for the past three weeks after a 1-for-20 start to the year. He’s slashing .236/.311/.345 with two homers, 10 RBI and seven runs scored overall and generally platoons in the outfield with Austin Slater.
Manager Bob Melvin said it was only a matter of time before Yastrzemski began to settle in, as he was slowed by a left shoulder impingement during Spring Training and then missed three games after he went on paternity leave during the first week of the regular season.
Michael Conforto finished 0-for-4 against the Pirates in the 3-2 win Sunday, leaving him without an RBI in his last five games. Conforto opened the season 13-for-31 with three homers, four doubles and 10 RBI in his first eight games, Since then, he’s 15-for-74 with two homers, two doubles and six RBI in 19 games. Rookie shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald added three hits Sunday for the Giants, who took two of three from the Pirates and finished their longest homestand of the season 6-4.
It’s ace right-hander Logan Webb on the mound Tuesday. Webb improved to 3-1 on the season in last Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the Mets, striking out four over eight scoreless innings while allowing six hits and one walk. The Mets scattered six hits against him, with most of it being soft contact, and he never had more than one runner on base until his final inning.
Webb is up to 19 consecutive scoreless innings, which is the longest streak of his career. He’s now gone at least seven innings and allowed one or fewer runs in each of his last three outings. Webb lowered his ERA to a 2.33 to go with a 1.11 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB in 28.2 innings. The Giants have now scored 21 runs over Webb’s last three starts, a welcome trend considering they’ve struggled to support him in the past. The Cy Young Award runner-up from a year ago led the majors with 216.0 innings pitched in 2023, something he would like to do again in 2024.
Webb’s shortened outing against the Dodgers on April 2, in which the right-hander allowed five runs over 3.2 innings, is the lone blemish on a sparkling game log that includes five quality starts. Since 2022, Webb has the lowest ERA in baseball of pitchers with 400+ IP
Over their last 21 games dating to April 5, Giants starters have logged a 3.19 ERA, sixth-best in the majors and third-best in the National League. Tuesday starts a 10-game, 11-day road trip that’s the longest of the season for the Giants, who took two of three at Fenway in 2019 in their last visit.

The Red Sox enter on a two-game winning streak after beating the visiting Cubs 5-4 on Sunday night to take two of three in the series. Jarren Duran led off the ninth with a walk against Mark Leiter Jr. on Sunday and the game tied 4-4. He raced to third on Rafael Devers’ single. Tyler O’Neill then hit a shallow fly toward left field. Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson, playing with the entire infield in, tried to make a sliding catch, but it went off his glove and landed in the outfield grass and Duran scored the winning run.
The news was not all good as outfielder/DH Masataka Yoshida left in the sixth inning with an apparent hand injury. Yoshida jammed his left hand on a groundout in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first inning but stayed in. Considering Yoshida was able to remain in the game as long as he did and even record a hit in his second at-bat, it’s possible that the injury is minor.
If Yoshida were to be forced to take a seat for a few days by the injury, it would be an unfortunate turn of events as the 30-year-old had just begun to heat up after a slow start to the season with a .318/.375/.477 slash line in his last 13 games. He had just returned to the Red Sox lineup on Saturday after sitting out an entire week due to a lineup crunch.
Boston currently is dealing with a plethora of injuries but should start getting reinforcements back soon. The Red Sox likely will see the team debut of infielder Vaughn Grissom on Tuesday. He was acquired this offseason from Atlanta but has been doing minor-league rehab for a hamstring injury. Grissom went 4-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.
It’s Cooper Criswell (1-1) on the mound Tuesday. Criswell earned the win last Wednesday over the Guardians, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings. Criswell was impressive in his second start this year, as he held the Guardians scoreless through five innings while throwing just 72 pitches en route to his first victory. The 27-year-old lowered his ERA to 2.38 on the season with a 1.15 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB across 11.1 innings. The Red Sox will likely continue to stretch out Criswell as a starter due to Brayan Bello, Nick Pivetta and Garrett Whitlock all being on the IL.
Boston is 5-3-1 in series play, including 2-2-0 at home. The Sox are 5-8 at home, compared to 11-5 on the road.
