Vikings’ offensive Changes During the Offseason
A couple of massive changes happened to the Minnesota Vikings offense. The first is how Adam Thielen left in free agency to the Carolina Panthers.
Thielen’s departure forced Minnesota to draft a wide receiver with their first pick in the NFL Draft. That wide receiver turned out to be Jordan Addison.
The other massive change on the offense happened when the Vikings cut Dalvin Cook. Many considered Cook one of the top running backs in the league. His departure could have a significant impact on Minnesota’s rushing attack.
Minnesota Vikings Offensive Line Analysis
Minnesota’s offensive line ranks in the top 10. Most NFL analysts consider Brian O’Neill one of the best right tackles in the league.
HC Kevin O’Connell got center Garrett Bradbury to perform at the highest level he ever has during his career. Left tackle Christian Darrisaw has turned into one of the top left tackles in the NFL.
Bradbury, Darrisaw, and O’Neill are the reasons the Vikings’ offense line ranks in the top 10. The ranking will move into the top five if right guard Ed Ingram, who allowed more pressures than any other lineman in the league in 2022, and left guard Ezra Cleveland improve.
Minnesota Vikings Wide Receivers Room Analysis
Justin Jefferson might be the best wide receiver in the NFL. If he isn’t the best, he’s no worse than third best. Jefferson was fantastic in 2022, catching 128 passes for 1,809 yards and scoring 8 touchdowns.
No doubt, Jefferson’s numbers could regress this season if Jordan Addison doesn’t get up to speed quickly.
Minnesota Vikings Running Backs Room Analysis
Cutting Dalvin Cook is a big deal. The Vikings’ offense line is good, but it’s not great because of Ingram and Cleveland have trouble preventing the upfront push.
Cook is excellent at getting to the edge. Without Cook, the Vikings could struggle to run the football to the edges, which means that unless Ingram and Cook improve, RB1 Alexander Mattison and RB2 Ty Chandler will struggle.
Minnesota Points Scored & Yards Per Game Range Prediction
In 2022, the Vikings offense ranked seventh in yards per game at 361.5 and eighth in points per at 24.9. This season, the Vikings won’t be as good moving the football nor will they be as solid scoring points.
The schedule is much more difficult, the Vikings must play the Saints, Bengals, Chiefs, 49ers, and Eagles, and the jury is out on Jordan Addison and Alexander Mattison.
Vikings Yard Per Game Range: 350 – 355
Vikings Points Scored Range: 20-23
QB Kirk Cousins to Win MVP +4400
Analysis: If the Minnesota fan, the odds on your quarterback to win MVP are more than fair. But if you’re looking to make a bet that wins you money, backing Cousins at +4400 means you’re accepting underlay odds.
Cousins is going to have a tough time this year. The defenses the Vikings starting signal caller faces this season are much better than what he saw last season. +55000 odds seem fair.
WR Justin Jefferson to Win NFL Offensive Player of the Year +1200
Analysis: Jefferson and Bengals’ WR Ja’Marr Chase are co-favorites at +1200. If you want to back chalk, Chase is a better play than Jefferson.
Teams will make an effort to stop Justin. So unless Mattison turns into a legit RB1 and Addison flourishes, Jefferson will have to fight double-teams all season.
