Two teams from the National League East will get together for a three-game series at Citi Field in Queens, New York. The first-place Atlanta Braves will take on the fourth-place New York Mets.
The Atlanta Braves have the best record in all of Major League Baseball, with their 72-40 record on the season coming into Thursday afternoon’s series finale at Pittsburgh.
For the New York Mets, they picked up a win on Wednesday over the Cubs. The Mets took Thursday off and are now 52-62 on the season.

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets Series: Friday, August 11th to Sunday, August 13th, 2023
NL East Matchup
Friday
Charlie Morton (Atlanta) @ Tylor Megill (New York)
Friday, August 11th, 2023
Morton, one of the veterans in the league at this point, is 10-10 with a 3.86 earned run average. Morton is typically consistent but has struggled as of late.
In fact, the Braves have lost each of his last four starts. The last time he won a game was July 14th against the White Sox. For Megill, his ERA is high, at 5.45.
He is 6-5 on the season and looking to get back on track. His last two starts have combined for 13 hits and nine runs over just seven innings pitched.
Saturday
Spencer Strider (Atlanta) @ Jose Quintana (New York)
Saturday, August 12th, 2023
Strider is the Braves ace and one of the front runners to win the National League, Cy Young. But he is coming off a poor outing against Pittsburgh in his last performance.
Strider has over 210 strikeouts on the season, and there is no doubt he is the most dominant pitcher in the National League. Strider comes into the game at 12-4, 3.94.
Quintana is making just his 5th start of the season. In 23.2 innings, he has allowed 24 hits and nine runs so far. He is 0-3 on the season. The good news from Quintana, he will likely give the Mets six innings, as he has done in each of his last three starts.
Sunday
Yonny Chirinos (Atlanta) @ Kodai Senga (New York)
Sunday, August 13th, 2023
Chirinos will make his 8th start of the season. The 29-year-old from Venezuela has thrown 76.1 innings on the season. He is coming off a start against the Pirates, where he was roughed up and allowed a season-high four home runs.
The Braves picked him up at the deadline from Tampa. Senga has been made the New York Mets ace with the departure of Verlander and Scherzer.
The 30-year-old from Japan has been solid, as he is 8-6 with a 3.24 earned run average on the season. He has swing-and-miss stuff with over 140 strikeouts on the season.
Power Coming from Both Teams
There will be plenty of power in this series. The Braves are the top home run hitting team in all of baseball, and the Mets have one of the best pure power hitters in all of Major League Baseball. Atlanta has nine guys in double digits in home runs hit.
Matt Olson leads the team with 39 home runs and 100 runs batted in, while Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna Jr all have 26 home runs. Marcell Ozuna is next on the team with 23.
For the Mets, Pete Alonso went deep for the 35th time. Alonso is trying to chase down Olson for the home run title in the National League in what has been a lost season in New York. No one else on the Mets roster has more than 22 home runs, and that’s Francisco Lindor, with Francisco Alvarez behind him at 21.
Last Time
The last time these two teams met, the Atlanta Braves swept the three-game series. The Braves scored 26 runs in the season, and the Mets scored 19. The final game was a 13-10 win for the Braves.
That was over two months ago. The two teams also met at the end of April, and the Braves won two out of three in New York. The Mets pay a visit to Atlanta on August 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
Weekend Fun in New York
This should be an interesting series. While the Braves have been the best team in baseball, the Mets likely will not just roll over and die to their divisional rival.
Look for the Mets to grab at least one of these games. There will not be a sweep here. The folks in Queens still want to see their home team win.
We bet the Mets get the first, the Braves get the second, and the third game is up for grabs. Enjoy the games!
