Top MLB Pitchers for Follow this Week 23

We have just three weeks left in the Major League Baseball regular season.

This should be a fun stretch run.

Ten teams will head to the postseason, and we will duke it out to see who can win the 2024 World Series.

Before that though, there are some great games on tap, with some excellent pitchers this week.

Let’s take a look at the top Major League Baseball pitchers to follow for Week 23:

Writer’s Pitchers Picks for MLB Week 23

Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates

The right-handed rookie is just a couple of starts away from finishing his first season in the league.

Skenes is likely going to come up short for the Rookie of the Year award in the National League.

But, a great season nonetheless.

Skenes is making his 20th start of the MLB Season, and has thrown 114 innings, and struck out 142 batters.

Skenes is 9-2 on the season with a 2.13 earned run average.

He will take his strikeout stuff to the mound, as he takes on the Miami Marlins.

Over the weekend, he will host the Kansas City Royals.

Brayan Bello, Boston Red Sox

It has been a strong season for Brayan Bello.

The right-hander is 12-7 on the season with a 4.75.

Bello is making his 27th start of the season.

He has thrown 142 innings and struck out 135 batters on the season.

He will get a chance to take on the Baltimore Orioles on Monday and then will head to Detroit over the weekend.

A couple of challenging games, but will be fun to see the righthander battle this week.

Reid Detmers, Los Angeles Angels

Reid Detmers was strong in his last outing.

He went six innings, allowing three hits and two runs.

Detmers walked two in the game and struck out 10.

The 25-year-old is a lefthander that has nasty stuff, but is trying to figure it out.

He will get a chance at Minnesota on Monday and then host the Houston Astros over the weekend.

Walker Buehler, Los Angeles Dodgers

Buehler is trying to help his team to the postseason.

He will get Kyle Hendricks and the Chicago Cubs to start the week on Monday.

Buehler has not been great, as he is 1-4 on the season with a 5.67 earned run average.

The right-hander needs to be better this week, and beyond to help his team out.

After the Cubs leave town, they will face a tough test, as they head out on the road to the Atlanta Braves.

Shota Imanaga, Chicago Cubs

The right-hander from the Cubs has been strong all season.

He comes into the game with a 12-3 record on the season.

He holds an ERA of just shy of 3.00 on the season.

He gets a chance on the road at the Dodgers on Tuesday.

He should then get a chance to go on the road and take on a weak-hitting Rockies team.

It should be a fun week for the Cub hurler, as his team tries to hang on to the slim chances at a National League Wildcard spot.

There you have it.

Those are our Top Major League Baseball pitchers to follow for Week 23.

Enjoy the games!

MLB Pitchers to Back in Week 23

Previous Betting News

With the end of the MLB regular season very much in sight, we are now starting to see , while others are officially eliminated. While all of that is going on, the battle for the available postseason spots continues to escalate as we prepare to head into Week 23 of the season. As we do every week, it is now time to look ahead to the schedule for the next few days and select some pitchers we believe could make a positive impact in their next start. We are going to start with the Tuesday games and select one pitcher per day through to Friday, for a total of 4 that we think might be a good MLB bet. Let’s get right to it.

MLB Week 23: Monday September 11 – Sunday September 17, 2023

Justin Verlander

Houston Astros | #35
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

This time last week, the AL West was about as tight as it can get, but with the Mariners and Rangers both going in the tank, the Houston Astros have surged to the top and taken a 2 ½ game lead. That’s a good spot to be in at this stage of the season, but they still have some work to do to clinch their playoff berth. They start their week with a very winnable series against the Oakland Athletics, with Verlander set to take the mound on Tuesday. He is 11-7 on the season, but perhaps more importantly, Houston has won 5 of the 7 games he has started since acquiring him in a trade.

Zac Gallen

Arizona Diamondbacks | #23
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

The NL West is a write off at the moment for the Dbacks, but they do still have an outside shot at a Wild Card spot. For that to happen, they need to be strong coming down the stretch, and will likely also need some help along the way. It all starts with helping themselves, though, which they could do in a series with the disappointing Yankees. Still a tough matchup, but you have to like them on Wednesday with Gallen on the mound. Gallen is 15-7 on the season, and while he has a losing road record, I like him to shine this week.

Kevin Gausman

Blue Jays | #34
Bats: Left / Throws: Right

The Blue Jays are another team in the Wild Card picture, with ESPN currently having them at an 80% chance of getting in. They come into this week having won 3 in a row, but they have a tough one in the latter half of this week when they welcome Texas to town in a series with massive playoff implications. The Boue Jays have won each of the last 3 games that Gausman has started, helping him move his record to 11-8 this season, which includes a 5-3 record at home.

Corbin Burnes

Brewers | #39
Bats: Right / Throws: Right

The Brewers are on the cusp of securing their playoff spot and currently have a 3-game lead over the Cubs in the division race. That said, they have not been great of late, playing .500 ball in the last 10 games. They have a weekend series with the awful Washington Nationals coming this weekend, so a really good chance for them to get back on track. I particularly like their chances on Friday with Burnes on the mound. The Brewers have lost in each of his last 3 starts, but I think that slump ends on Friday.
