Boston Celtics NBA Betting Odds Analysis
Boston is 3-4 in its past seven games and 8-8 in its past 16 following a 119-115 OT home upset loss to Atlanta on Saturday. “We just gotta continue to fight through it,” Derrick White said following a 21-point effort. “I think there’s so many times where we’re just right there and shots that everybody here expects to go in just aren’t going in. Trae (Young) banked a three in the third quarter, stuff like that. That happens throughout a season and throughout a game. Just have to stick together and believe in one another, and we’ll be alright.”
Jaylen Brown
Brown notched a team-high 24 points along with 11 rebounds and eight assists in the loss. It was the first time Brown had pulled down double-digit boards since Nov. 22, but he still fell just short of his first triple-double of the season and had to settle for his fourth double-double. A shoulder issue cost the 28-year-old the first couple games of the new year, but since returning he’s been productive despite some shooting woes, averaging 19.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists in his last seven appearances.
Jayson Tatum
Tatum played through a shoulder injury and was just 7-for-21 from the field for 23 points with eight boards and seven assists. Tatum surpassed Cedric Maxwell for the 14th-most rebounds in Celtics history with 4,023 career boards, chasing No. 13. Sam Jones (4,305) on the horizon. It was Tatum’s 15th game with a 20/5/5 stat line, which is tied for the sixth-most such games in the NBA this season. Tatum has scored at least 15 points in 78 straight games since January 13, 2024, the longest active streak in the NBA.
Bob McAdoo
Jayson passed McAdoo (12,918) on the NBA’s all-time leading scorer list for players aged 26 and younger with 12,931 career points and looks to surpass Wilt Chamberlain (13,355) next on the list. He has uncharacteristically failed to score at least 20 points twice in nine January games, but on the month he’s still averaging 25.6 points, 8.3 boards and 5.0 assists.
“You’ve just gotta take the good with the bad and understand that down the road, you could be grateful for the stretch that we’re going through,” he said after Saturday’s loss. “If we stick together, if we continue to be a close-knit group, then we’ll figure it out together.”
Injury Report for tomorrow at Golden State:
— Boston Celtics (@celtics) January 20, 2025
No injuries to report
Top Players Waiting
Big men Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis both were out but should play Monday. Porzingis has played in seven straight contests since returning from an ankle injury, and he has topped 20 points in three of his last five games.
Payton Pritchard
Pritchard leads all NBA reserves in points (613), three-pointers (141), and field goals (213). He also ranks 3rd in assists (138) and 3rd in rebounds among guards (151). Sam Hauser’s 41.1 career three-point percentage ranks fifth among active NBA players (min. 250 made), trailing only Luke Kennard (44.0), Seth Curry (43.1), Stephen Curry (42.5), and Grayson Allen (41.4).
The Rankings
“Taco Jay” ranks 4th in the NBA in points scored (1,079). Brown ranks 8th in the NBA in transition points (223). White ranks 2nd among league guards in contested shots (272). The Celtics’ all-time record for most three-pointers per game in a single season is 3.2 by Tatum (2022-23), Isaiah Thomas (2016-17), and Kemba Walker (2019-20). Three Celtics are on pace to break that record with Tatum (3.7 3FG), Pritchard (3.4), and White (3.3) so far this season.

Golden State Warriors NBA Betting Odds Analysis
Golden State won their second game in a row Saturday, 122-114 over Washington despite All-Stars Steph Curry and Draymond Green both leaving injured. Curry scored 26 points before leaving the game with a left ankle injury in the final minutes but might play Monday.
Draymond Green
Green’s condition, on the other hand, appears more uncertain. After missing Golden State’s previous three games due to a back injury and an illness, he played only three minutes to start Saturday’s matchup before withdrawing due to left calf tightness. Green was to have an MRI on Sunday. The Dubs already are without injured players Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski.
Andrew Wiggins
Wiggins would become the primary offensive option Monday if Curry is out. Wiggins was terrific Saturday with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Wiggins is perhaps going through his most productive stretch of the campaign and has looked excellent since returning from a two-game absence due to a personal situation. He’s reached the 20-point mark in his last three outings, a span in which he’s shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and 37 percent from beyond the arc.
Dennis Schroder
Schroder also would have a bigger scoring role if Curry is out and had 20 points Saturday. It marked the first time he reached 20 points since being traded from the Nets to the Warriors in mid-December. He’s averaging 10.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game since joining Golden State while being a reliable presence in the starting unit. The Warriors have used 23 different starting lineups this season, and five unique in as many games.

The Rankings
The Warriors are ranked ninth in defensive rating (111.0) and tied 19th in offensive rating (111.6) by NBA.com. The Warriors are ranked third in the NBA in rebounding (46.6 rpg), tied eighth in assists per game (28.3 apg), 18th in scoring (111.4 ppg). Golden State is ranked ninth in opponent field goal percentage (45.6 FG%) in the NBA and tied 12th in opponent 3-point field goal percentage (35.7 3P%). The Warriors are also tied sixth in deflections per game (17.9).
Home Games
This is the second game second in a stretch in which the Warriors play eight of nine games at home. They have won two of the last three meetings against the Celtics and the last two at home. Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Inauguration Day, just the third time both occurrences fall on the same day. For the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the Warriors play on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Since the day was first observed in 1986, this marks the second time the Warriors face the Celtics on MLK Day (1/18/88, at BOS, L, 101-121).
Inauguration Day
The Warriors will play on Inauguration Day for the eighth time ever. The Warriors are 6-1 all-time when playing on January 20 following a presidential election, which has been the official inauguration date since Franklin D. Roosevelt was sworn in for his second term on January 20, 1937. Golden State is 5-0 on Inauguration Day in the team’s West Coast Era (since 1962), while the club also owns a 5-0 record in home games on Inauguration Day.
^Celtics vs Warriors First Meeting
On Nov. 6, the Warriors were 118-112 upset winners in Boston. Stephen Curry scored 27 points, and Buddy Hield and Andrew Wiggins both had 16. With the Warriors holding a 115-112 lead, Draymond Green hit a free throw with 11 seconds left.
Kyle Anderson sealed it with two free throws with 2.4 seconds to play. Jayson Tatum led Boston with 32 points, and Derrick White had 26 with six rebounds. The Celtics were without All-Star Jaylen Brown but he’s healthy now.

2019 Celtics vs Warriors Preview
The two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors might be the odds on favorite to claim their third straight title, but the Dubs are a bit desperate after splitting their last four games. Things are even more serious for a Boston Celtics team that entered the season as the odds on favorites to win the Eastern Conference, but has underachieved all season long.
Now, with both teams looking to finish the regular season with a flourish, let’s find out whether the Dubs can cover the chalk as decisive home favorites or whether the C’s are a better pick as a road dog.

Why Bet On Boston at +9?
The best reasons to back Boston are because the Celtics have an elite defense that limits the opposition to just 106.8 points per game to rank an encouraging fifth in points allowed. Boston should also be highly motivated because they’re playing the Warriors and are desperate to get on track after losing five of their last six games including a humbling 115-104 spanking at the hands of James Harden and the Houston Rockets on Sunday.
“Right now, unfortunately, we are going through a really bad stretch,” center Al Horford told reporters. “This is when our group, we need to make sure that we stay together and even closer because I know it’s hard. We’re the first ones that don’t want to lose, but we need to continue to work because we feel like we can be better than this.”
Boston got 24 points, nine boards and six assists from Kyrie Irving in the loss, but the Celtics allowed Harden to go off for a game-high 42 points in the loss.

Why Bet On Golden State at -9?
The best reason to back the Dubs is that they are playing at home where they’ve gone 23-8 so far this season, plus the warriors are desperate to improve their play down the stretch. Golden State head coach Steve Kerr has been trying to find a balance of resting his players down the stretch and still trying to win games.
Golden State managed to get past Philadelphia 120-117 on Saturday as Kevin Durant scored a game-high 34 points and Steph Curry added 28 points while draining several big shots in the fourth quarter, prompting his teammates to speak about his greatness.
“I still think he doesn’t really get the respect he deserves,” forward Andre Iguodala told reporters of Curry. “Guys think he uses a lot of screens and guys think they can draw mismatches with him defensively, but he’s a real problem. I think I told (forward Kevin Durant), he said he missed me on the shot he took, and I said, ‘Y’all two are like Michael Jordan, there’s no such thing as a bad shot.’ That’s for real, and people don’t understand the presence they bring to the court. Especially on the offensive end.”
The Warriors lead the league in scoring by averaging 118.6 points while also ranking first in field goal shooting percentage (48.9%).

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Celtics vs Warriors
I know the Boston Celtics aren’t playing well at all right now and that they just suffered a double-digit loss to Houston the last time out, but I believe the C’s are going to bring their collective ‘A’ games to give Golden State a tough way to go in this one – before eventually falling to the two-time defending champs.
I know the Celtics are an ugly 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against their Western Conference counterparts and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall, but the Warriors are an uninspiring 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 home games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 against teams from the Eastern Conference and a dismal 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall. I like the Dubs to get the home win in this one, but the ATS cover goes to a Celtics team that is 5-0 ATS in their last five meetings against the Warriors.
