Season Series

Dallas won three of four vs. Golden State. They last played March 3 in Dallas and the Mavs won 122-113 as Dallas never trailed behind 41 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists from Luka Doncic. Dorian Finney-Smith scored 18 points and Reggie Bullock and Jalen Brunson added 14 apiece. Draymond Green didn’t play for the Dubs and only played in one of the four regular-season games. The Mavericks have won nine of the past 11 meetings in the series.

Why Bet on Dallas?

The Mavericks laid an historic blowout on the top-seeded Phoenix Suns on Sunday in Game 7, 123-90. It was 57-27 at the half – Mavs star Luka Doncic had as many points at the break as the Suns did. He became the first player in the last 25 postseasons to equal or exceed the opposing team’s point total in a half.

Doncic and Spencer Dinwiddie were the first teammates to have at least 20 points in a half in Game 7 since Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston did it for the Knicks in 1997. The Suns became the second team in NBA history to win at least 64 games in the regular season and not make the conference finals. The other was the Mavericks in 2007.

Doncic finished with 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting (6-of-11 3-pointers) to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. He was the second-youngest player in postseason history with 35 points and 10 rebounds in a Game 7. Dinwiddie had 30 points on 11-of-15 shooting (5-of-7 3-pointers). Dinwiddie played arguably his best game as a Maverick. Dinwiddie and Doncic became the first teammates to each have 30 points in a Game 7 since Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal in the 2002 Western Conference Finals against the Kings.

Jalen Brunson put up 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting. He scored 22 of his 24 points after the break as the Mavericks pushed the lead to as much as 46 points. Brunson, Dinwiddie and Doncic accounted for 89 points in this one, and the Suns as a team scored 90.

The Mavs’ 33-point rout was the largest Game 7 victory on the road since 1948 when the Philadelphia Warriors defeated the St. Louis Bombers, 85-46, on April 6, 1948. It also was the Mavs’ first win in Phoenix since Nov. 29, 2019, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the desert. Phoenix had led the series 2-0.

“I always say this team is special, the way we bond together, the way we play,” said Doncic. “When we play hard defensively it’s tough to stop us. I thought after the first two games here our defense improved really well, and that’s what won us the game.”

Dallas is in the West Finals for the first time since 2011. In the season series vs. Golden State, Doncic averaged 31.5 points, nine rebounds and 5.5 assists, and shot 47.6 percent from the field (39-of-82), 38.2 percent from three-point land (13-of-34) and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe (35-of-40).

Why Bet on Golden State?

The Warriors are well-rested as they finished off Memphis 110-96 in Game 6 on Friday to advance to the conference finals for the first time since 2019, when the franchise reached its fifth straight NBA Finals before losing to Toronto.

Stephen Curry scored 29 points in the clincher with seven rebounds and five assists. Curry got hot late and hit some big shots down the stretch to help the Warriors pull away from the Grizzlies. Draymond Green nearly recorded a triple-double, putting up 14 points with 15 rebounds and eight assists.

Klay Thompson scored 30 points to go with eight rebounds. Game Six Klay was in full effect as he fully lived up to the name. It was just his 4th career playoff game with eight made three-pointers, and two of the previous instances came in a Game Six. Andrew Wiggins also was huge down the stretch, and he finished with 18 points to go with 11 rebounds.

Coach Steve Kerr missed the final three games of the Grizzlies series but cleared the league’s health and safety protocols on Sunday and will coach the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals. Mike Brown will return to his role as an assistant coach for his final playoff run before taking over head coaching duties in Sacramento.

Kerr said that it remains a “longshot” that Gary Payton II (fractured left elbow) will be available at some point during the Western Conference Finals.  Payton suffered the injury during Game 2 of the Warriors’ second-round series with the Grizzlies, landing awkwardly after being on the wrong end of a dirty foul committed by Dillon Brooks. It was reported on May 4 that GPII could miss anywhere from 3-5 weeks. Otto Porter Jr. (foot) was a full participant in practice this week and will play after missing Games 5-6 vs. Memphis.

Including the regular season, the Warriors have won their last eight home games. Since 2015, Golden State has a 51-11 home record (.823) in the NBA Playoffs. Golden State has won its last 12 Game 1’s that were played at home, the seventh-longest streak in NBA Playoff history. The last time the Warriors lost a Game 1 at home was in the 2016 Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder (108-102).

The Warriors have won 17 consecutive playoff series victories against Western Conference teams (2015 – present). It’s the longest active and second-longest streak winning an NBA playoff series (best-of-3 or better) against a conference/division opponent, trailing only the 18 by the Celtics (1959-1967).

Under Kerr, the Warriors have won 20 of 22 playoff series. The .909 winning percentage is the highest coaching series win percentage with a team in the postseason.
