Season Series

The Sixers go for the two-game sweep as they beat the Nuggets 103-89 on Nov. 18 in Denver. Tyrese Maxey scored 22 points, and Seth Curry added 20 – Curry is now with the Nets. Playing without Joel Embiid and three other regulars, the 76ers held Nikola Jokic to three points in the second half in part thanks to the play of rookie big man Charles Bassey. He had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. Jokic had 30 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists before leaving the court for the locker room late in the fourth quarter.

Why Bet on Denver?

Denver lost its second straight game Saturday, 127-115 at home vs. Toronto. Pascal Siakam scored 33 points, Scottie Barnes had 25 and the Raptors pulled away late. Toronto finished with 55 rebounds, including 23 offensive boards leading to 30 second-chance points. Only nine of Denver’s 46 rebounds were on the offensive end and the Nuggets had 11 second chance-points.

“That’s unacceptable,” Nuggets star Nikola Jokic said. “They had more offensive than defensive (rebounds), it seemed like. We just need to do a better job.”

Jokic accounted for 26 points (9-of-13 FGs, 8-of-9 FTs), 10 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. Jokic fell three assists shy of a triple-double and shot the ball well, but this was a strange night as all 13 of his field-goal attempts came in the paint, and Jokic did not have a single shot in the fourth quarter. The Nuggets are 47-10 all time when the Joker gets 15+ rebounds. Jokic has four games this season with 24+ points, 15+ rebounds and 7+ assists, while the rest of the NBA have combined for four such games.

Will Barton (left ankle sprain) finished Saturday’s loss with 16 points and five rebounds. Barton was back in the starting lineup after a three-game absence, and he showed no ill effects during his time on the court. The 16 points were the most that he’s scored in a game since February 24 (six games), when he tallied 21 in a win over the Kings.

Aaron Gordon (right foot soreness) and Zeke Nnaji (knee) are being listed as questionable for Monday’s game. Both sat Saturday, which resulted in Davon Reed getting the spot-start for Gordon and JaMychal Green saw some extended run with the second unit.

The Nuggets have fared well in Philadelphia since the start of the 2003-04 season, having won 10 of their last 19 road meetings with the 76ers. Nuggets guard Austin Rivers is the son of Sixers head coach Doc Rivers

Why Bet on Philadelphia?

Philly bounced back from an ugly home loss to Brooklyn last Thursday with a 116-114 OT win in Orlando on Sunday. Down by 17 points in the first half and trailing by 10 in the fourth quarter, the Sixers were behind 113-109 with 1:25 left in OT. Orlando has the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 18-51. With the win, the Sixers swept the four-game season series between the two teams and have won 10 straight games overall against the Magic.

“This was a big win for us. I know people are like: ‘Oh, it’s the Orlando Magic.’ But they just beat the Timberwolves the other night and the Timberwolves came back and beat the Miami Heat,” said Georges Niang, who hit two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help send the game into overtime. “That should tell you something about the NBA.”

Joel Embiid led Philly with 35 points and 16 rebounds. It was his 31st game this season with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. He’s one of three NBA players with at least 30 such performances.

Tobias Harris had 26 points and nine rebounds in 44 minutes. He hit a clutch three-pointer in OT with under a minute left to seal the deal for the 76ers. James Harden went just 5-of-19 from the floor and 13-of-15 at the line for 26 points, six rebounds, six assists, three triples, three steals and three turnovers across 44 minutes. He’s now combined to shoot just 8-of-36 from the floor over the past two games. However, although Harden hasn’t been great shooting the ball recently, the Sixers are 6-1 with him in the lineup.

With the win, the Sixers pulled to within 2.5 games of the Miami Heat for the top spot in the ultra-competitive Eastern Conference. Even though every game is a big one in terms of the standings for Philadelphia, it’s possible that Embiid gets a much-needed night off in the second of back-to-back games.
