Series History
First meeting of the season. The Mavericks are 37-47 (.440) all-time against the Hawks franchise (22-20 at home, 15-27 on the road). With their 2022-23 season series win, Atlanta snapped a four-game road losing streak against the Mavericks and the Hawks’ 2022-23 season series win was the first time Atlanta won a season series against Dallas since the 2017-18 campaign. In eight career games (4-4 record) against Atlanta, Mavs star Luka Doncic is averaging 23.7 points (.403 FG%), 8.6 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game.
Why Bet on Dallas Mavericks?
The Mavs were without Kyrie Irving on Wednesday and lost their third in a row, 132-109. The Mavs couldn’t stop Devin Booker, who had 46 points. Booker was largely responsible for the Suns outscoring the Mavericks 43-20 in the third quarter. The Mavericks had control of the game in the second quarter when they were up by as much as 16 points and still were up 54-40 five-plus minutes before halftime.

“We didn’t execute anything defensively,” coach Jason Kidd said. “Book was going and when he gets going, he’s one of the best at the midrange and getting to the basket. And he doesn’t have to go get it in the first quarter. He was patient and he picked his spots and took advantage of it.”
Luka Doncic was great as usual with 34 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in 39 minutes – he’s playing too many minutes. Doncic only had 10 points after halftime. It was an apparent tweak to his right leg that slowed him. It happened just before halftime and the superstar clearly wasn’t the same afterward.
Doncic was just shy of a third consecutive triple-double and tallied twice as many points as Dallas’ next-highest scorer (Tim Hardaway Jr.). Doncic ranks second in the NBA with 33.6 points per game, third with 9.3 assists per contest and second with 143 total three-pointers while adding 8.5 boards and 1.4 steals per game.
Hardaway had 17 points and five rebounds off the bench. Dante Exum accounted for six points, two rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes as he was active for the first time since New Year’s Day after being sidelined by a right plantar fascia sprain. Forward Grant Williams was ejected after two technical fouls.
Irving is questionable for Friday and Doncic might be listed that way, too, but he usually plays through it. He has recorded six-consecutive games with 30-or-more points, which ties for the third-longest streak in his career.
Dallas (24-20) has struggled to defend during its three-game losing streak, allowing an average of 126 points per game. For the season, Dallas has allowed 117.8 points per game, which is 21st in the NBA.
“We just got to be more physical – that’s it,” Doncic said of the Mavs’ defensive woes. “I think when we play physical 48 minutes it’s hard to beat us. We got to play physically without fouling.”

Why Bet on Atlanta Hawks?
The Hawks have played this week without All-Star Trae Young as he’s in the concussion protocol and his status for Friday likely won’t be known until the morning shootaround at the earliest – he would have to clear the protocol as it’s not up to the team.

Atlanta (18-26) lost its third in a row Wednesday, 134-112 at Golden State as Steph Curry and Klay Thompson shot a combined 10 for 18 from deep as the Warriors finished 48.5% with 16 made 3-pointers. Dejounte Murray led the Hawks with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Murray only committed one turnover in 33 minutes on the court. He’s playing good basketball at a time when his name has come up in multiple trade rumors, which could only be driving up Atlanta’s asking price.
Murray has poured in 20-or-more points in five straight games, averaging 26.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.2 steals in 36.7 minutes over that time. He is one of 10 players in the NBA averaging at least 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists since Jan. 17.
Jalen Johnson is one of the NBA’s most improved players this season and had 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Despite missing 14 games due to injury this season, Johnson is one of only three third-year players this season to have totaled over 450 points, 200 rebounds, 75 assists, 30 steals and 25 blocks, joining Alperen Sengun and Scottie Barnes.
Saddiq Bey added 18 points with seven rebounds and three assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers in 27 minutes. Bey’s 18 points were the most he’s scored in a game since Dec. 18 (21 vs. Detroit), as he got back on track after a rough eight-game stretch. In the eight games before Wednesday, Bey shot 28.9% from the field and 20.0% from three. With De’Andre Hunter sidelined by injury, Bey has a little more room to play through shooting slumps.
Bogdan Bogdanovic has been starting for Young and extended his made three-pointer streak to 53 straight games in the loss, the second-longest active streak in the NBA (Damian Lillard: 119) and the second-longest such streak in franchise history. Bogi has knocked down 129 triples, the sixth-most total three-pointers in the NBA.
Friday starts a six-game homestand for Atlanta. The Hawks have won 10 of their last 12 home games against Dallas. They are 3-3 at home vs. West teams this season and have won two straight. Hawks assistant coach Igor Kokoskov served as an assistant coach for Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd during the 2021-22 season.
