Betting Week 3 NFL Games

On Thursday, the NFL heads into its week 3.

Top quarterback matchups abound in a league where if you don’t have a top flight QB, you have no chance of winning.

Top signal caller matchups include Lamar Jackson versus Dak Prescott when the Cowboys head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens and Brock Purdy and the Niners throwing down against Matthew Stafford and the Rams.

Check out the best quarterback battles in NFL Week 3.

Writer’s NFL Quarterback Picks for the Week 3 Matchups

Ravens – Lamar Jackson at Cowboys – Dak Prescott

Thursday, September 19th, 2024

Both these players have shown they will do what it takes to lead their team to victory.

The Cowboys are as solid as it gets but Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have the somewhat more flexible offense.

The Ravens can pound the ball while Jackson can run or pass.

Prescott is limited in his mobility and doesn’t have much to throw the ball to after CeeDee Lamb.

Give Lamar the nod.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Lamar Jackson

49ers – Brock Purdy at Rams – Matthew Stafford

Sunday, September 22nd, 2024

No doubt, Matthew Stafford is going to do what he can to lead the Rams to an upset victory over the rival Niners.

But like Prescott and the Cowboys, Stafford may struggle without Puca Nacua.

Nacua kept pressure off Stafford to Cooper Kupp.

The 49ers’ defense is good enough to contain Kupp.

The Niners will also shut down the run in this.

Purdy has more targets and the better defense.

Brock wins the battle.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Brock Purdy

Lions – Jared Goff at Cardinals – Kyler Murray

Sunday, September 22nd, 2024

Murray is a decent starter but he goes up against one of the top quarterbacks in the NFC on Sunday.

Jared Goff doesn’t make many mistakes.

Not only that, but his leadership skills are second to none.

Players rally around Goff.

Kyler has yet to develop a connection with rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison.

Even if one does in this game, the Lions’ secondary is much improved from 2023.

Goff takes the matchup.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Jared Goff

Chiefs – Patrick Mahomes at Falcons – Kirk Cousins

Sunday, September 22nd, 2024

It would be great for Atlanta fans if we could write that Kirk Cousins is going to go mano-y-mano against Patrick Mahomes.

Reality, though, tells us otherwise.

The Atlanta offensive line will struggle against a Chiefs’ pass rush that is on fire.

Steve Spagnuolo is as good as it gets at creating pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

No doubt Cousins, who is much less mobile than Mahomes, is going to end up on his back a few times in this one.

Mahomes rolls to the QB win.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Patrick Mahomes

Jacksonville – Trevor Lawrence at Bills – Josh Allen

Monday, September 23rd, 2024

This should be an excellent matchup.

Both quarterbacks are mobile.

Both have decent targets and solid offensive lines.

The difference, and the reason Allen gets the nod, is that one team is playing much better defense than many expected while the other offensive line tends to degrade as the game goes along.

The Jaguars’ O-line tends to make mistakes in the fourth quarter.

The mistakes will prove detrimental to the Jaguars winning the game or Trevor Lawrence posting better stats than Allen.

JA gets the QB victory.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Josh Allen

Commanders – Jayden Daniels at Bengals – Joe Burrow

Monday, September 23rd, 2024

The Bengals may win the game but Jayden Daniels is going to post much better stats than Joe Burrow.

If you find a head-to-head prop, for sure choose Daniels.

Jayden makes mistakes. He’s a rookie.

So we should expect mistakes.

But Daniels has wheels and the ability to throw the deep ball.

Jayden also plays with zero fear.

The Washington QB puts up great stats in this one.

NFL Week 3 QB Pick: Jayden Daniels

How to Bet on a NFL Total Bet?

Example of an NFL Total Bet

Let’s say you’re interested in betting on the total points scored in a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills. The sportsbook sets the total at 50.5 points for the game.

Here’s how you can place your total bet:

Over/Under Selection:
You will decide whether the combined score of both teams will be over or under the set total of 50.5 points.

  • Bet the Over:
If you believe the game will be high-scoring and the total points will exceed 50.5, you would place a bet on the “Over.”

  • Bet the Under:
If you think the game will be lower-scoring and the total points will be below 50.5, you would place a bet on the “Under.”

Placing Your Bet:

  • Choose Your Option:
On the sportsbook site, select either “Over 50.5” or “Under 50.5” from the total bet options.

  • Enter Your Bet Amount:
Input the amount of money you want to wager.

  • Confirm Your Bet:
Review your selection and confirm the bet.

Outcome:

  • If You Bet the Over:
If the combined score of both teams is 51 points or more, you win the bet.

  • If You Bet the Under:
If the combined score is 50 points or fewer, you win the bet.

By understanding how to place a total bet, you can make more informed decisions and enhance your betting experience.

2022 NFL Betting Predictions, Analysis & Picks of the Top QB Matchups for Week 3

Previous Betting News

Week two in the NFL was full of many more good games, and that gives hope going forward to week three. What quarterbacks will take a big step forward this week to lead their team to a win? Let’s try to find that out so you can get all see to make your bets against NFL Lines.

Looking At the Best Quarterback Matchups in Week 3 of the NFL Season

Buffalo Bills -4.5 vs Miami Dolphins

A few years ago, this matchup would have been a snoozer of a game. This week three matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins could be one of the more exciting games this season. Josh Allen, the MVP favorite, takes on Tua Tagovailoa and the surging Miami Dolphins.

Tagovailoa led the Dolphins to an incredible fourth-quarter comeback against the Baltimore Ravens in week two. The Dolphins trailed 35-14 entering the fourth quarter but rallied by scoring 28 fourth-quarter points. In a big year for Tagovailoa, in terms of a contract, he threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns.

The Buffalo Bills were the favorite to win the Super Bowl coming into the season and solidified that after a big week one win against the Los Angeles Rams. In week two, the Bills continued their domination with a win over the Tennessee Titans. Josh Allen and the Bills offense are rolling to start the season.

This is going to be another great matchup between two quarterbacks, Allen and Tagovailoa. This is a game that we also expect to be high scoring and expect to see a lot of action from the quarterback position.

The Pick: Buffalo Bils -4.5

Los Angeles Rams -4 vs Arizona Cardinals

We get our first look at one of the biggest matchups in the NFC West this season. The Los Angeles Rams travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals. Both teams are 1-1 heading into this matchup, with very different routes getting to 1-1.

The Rams fought the early Super Bowl hangover after a brutal performance on opening night against the Buffalo Bills. After a rough week one performance, the Rams showed out well through three-quarters of their game against the Atlanta Falcons in week two. The Rams and Cardinals split a season ago, but the Rams won the important matchup at the end of the season, on their way to an NFC West Division title and a Super Bowl victory.

The Cardinals had serious questions to answer after being routed in week one against the Kansas City Chiefs. The offseason for the Cardinals was filled with controversy and much of that was centered around their quarterback, Kyler Murray. Murray was a big reason for the comeback in week two against their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders.

The quarterback matchup between Matt Stafford and Murray will be one to watch. They are two different quarterbacks in their style of play. Look for this game to be high scoring and in favor of the Rams.

Pick: Los Angeles Rams -4

Green Bay Packers vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3

If you want an ideal quarterback matchup, this is your game to watch. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers travel to take on Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady. Arguably two of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game will square off in a must-see matchup.

The Green Bay Packers had a rough starting like many teams in week one. The Packers were blown out and struggled offensively against the Minnesota Vikings. Rodgers and the offense still had their issues in week two against the Chicago Bears but the run game carried the Packers to a win.

Tom Brady and the Buccaneers had their hands full in week one against the Dallas Cowboys but escaped with a win. The Tampa Bay defense has been unbelievable through two weeks and have been outscored by six points. The defense turned up the heat in the fourth quarter against the New Orleans Saints to win the rivalry game.

This is a game where you have to find the lesser of two evils. This is a game where the Buccaneers defense could play a large role in the game against a struggling Green Bay offense.

Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3

How Tom Brady’s Suspension Has Affected The NFL Odds

Previous Betting News

America’s Golden boy Tom Brady and his balls is the subject of discussion once again in this offseason. After his attorneys helped him talk his way out of a proposed four-game suspension for his implicit role in the much-discussed Deflategate Scandal, Brady finds himself battling the U.S. Court of Appeals after they reinstated the four-game suspension. If the mercurial New England Patriots starting quarterback fails to successfully appeal the charges, he will miss the first four games of the 2016 season.

Upon the release of the news regarding the reinstatement of Brady’s suspension, the NFL lines went into a frenzy, with most sportsbooks (online and in Nevada) adjusting their lines for the first four weeks of the season and the Super Bowl while others decided to completely pull off the odds from their boards. Is the NFL lines public overreacting to the news about Brady’s suspension or is there some truth to warrant the line adjustments?

Tom Brady’s Suspension and The Effect on the NFL Odds

Obviously, Brady is easily the most important player in New England’s squad, so it would be foolish to assume that his absence won’t affect the Patriots. This is a guy that can sole-handedly win a game on any given Sunday, so a suspension to him could have dire ramifications for the Pats, not just in the first four games but the Super Bowl 51 run as well.

In Brady’s absence, New England would have to start third-year backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo for the four games. As per the early 2016 NFL lines released by are CG Technology, here are the four games and their respective point spreads:

Week 1: at Arizona Cardinals (Pick-em)
Week 2: vs. Miami Dolphins (-9.5)
Week 3: vs. Houston Texans (-8)
Week 4: vs. Buffalo Bills (-7)

The most noteworthy of these four games is of course the season-opener against veteran QB Carson Palmer and his balanced Cardinals that can attack just efficiently as they can defend the pigskin. Making matters worse, the Cardinals have been perennial strong starters in the NFL over the past couple of seasons while the Patriots are generally slow starters. If Brady is confirmed out, you can expect the lines to move from pick-em to possibly favoring Arizona by 5-to-7 points, with Arizona getting a solid opportunity to claim the win here.

The games against Miami, Houston and Buffalo are winnable, even with Garoppolo leading the team, mainly because the games will be played in New England. Still, you can expect the lines to move down a little bit if Brady is absent.

Will Things Go Back To The Same Once Brady is Back

Outside the four games, Brady’s absence is likely to affect New England’s season totals (which were set at 10.5) and Super Bowl LI futures. The idea here is that the Patriots (if they don’t do well in their first games of the season) could miss out on home field advantage in the playoffs, which could be hugely crucial down the stretch of the postseason games, as we saw last year in the case of the New England at Denver AFC Championship game. It is based on this reason that most books have moved New England from 6-1 to 7-1 NFL odds to win the 2017 Super Bowl.

Rejoinder on Brady’s Suspension and Its Effect.

From a legal standpoint, it is still possible that the NFL and NFLPA could negotiate a settlement that would see Brady miss fewer games or get a green light to play all games, as was done in September 2015. Don’t, however, hold your breath for that, as it could entirely play out in the league’s favor, with Brady missing all the games. If you are a New England fan, you are better off hoping for a good resolve on the suspension while preparing for a scenario where he’ll not be available, hence influencing the odds, as has been briefly explained in this write-up.
