The oddsmakers have released their Sports Betting numbers for the 2022 season. Let’s take a look at how they view the Carolina Panthers prior to the upcoming season so you can get ready to bet against their NFL Betting Odds.
Carolina Panthers 2022 Season NFL Betting Guide
Overview
After starting the 2021 season off 3-0, many felt that the Carolina Panthers were ready to make a run at the playoffs. Newly-acquired quarterback Sam Darnold was leading the team, Christian McCaffrey was playing at a high level, and Matt Rhule’s squad looked good. After the 3-0 start, things started to fall apart.
McCaffrey was injured and missed the rest of the season, Darnold didn’t play well and was benched, and numerous injuries and other issues derailed the season. Carolina ended up finishing 5-12 and in last place in the NFC South. Many were questioning Rhule’s leadership, and some experts didn’t think he would make it to 2022.
Well, Rhule is back, McCaffrey is healthy, and Darnold is still listed as the starting quarterback. Carolina did draft Matt Corral, and there is still speculation that Baker Mayfield could end up as a Panther. But in the meantime, the Panthers think they can make a playoff run with Darnold at the helm.
Win Total Record
In looking at their projected win total, the over/under for the Carolina Panthers is 5.5 wins. Looking over their schedule, their toughest games will be against Tampa Bay (who they play twice), Cleveland, Denver, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and unfortunately for them, they play the NFC West this season. That means games against the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and the Arizona Cardinals.
They do get to play the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons twice, Seattle, and Detroit. These are all winnable games, but obviously not guaranteed. Other than Tampa Bay, the NFC South isn’t particularly strong. New Orleans could be a playoff team, but they’re not as strong as they’ve been in the past.
Unless there’s a trade for Mayfield and McCaffrey stays healthy all season, we aren’t sure that the Panthers can win more than five games.
Divisional, Conference, and Super Bowl Odds
The Panthers are a +1200 to win the NFC South. Unless Tampa Bay totally hits rock bottom, we can’t see the Panthers being in contention to win the South. New Orleans should be better than Carolina. Carolina should be better than Atlanta, but you never know.
Carolina is a big longshot to win the NFC. Coming in at a +6000, the oddsmakers don’t expect much from the Panthers. In looking at their schedule and their personnel, we tend to agree with the oddsmakers and wouldn’t suggest placing a large wager on the Panthers to win the NFC.
The Panthers are a +12500 to win the Super Bowl. As we’ve already stated, we can’t see the Panthers even making the playoffs, let alone winning a Super Bowl.
Prop Bets
In looking at MVP candidates, the Panthers only have two players on most boards. McCaffrey is a +900 to win the MVP award. This would be a good value bet. If he stays healthy, he has the ability to be one of the top players in the league.
Sam Darnold comes in at +15000. Unless Darnold makes a huge turnaround, we don’t think he has much of a shot at taking home any hardware.
