Betting NFL Week 18 Quarterbacks Picks

A lot of the best quarterbacks in the NFL will take a seat this week.

Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson aren’t likely to play in NFL Week 18.

Quarterbacks like Minnesota’s Sam Darnold and Detroit’s Jared Goff, though, should suit up.

If something is at stake, like a division title or a wild card playoff berth, the starting QB will play.

Check out a list of games along with quarterback picks for the most likely relevant matchups in NFL Week 18.

Writer’s NFL Quarterback Picks for the Week 18 Matchups

Carolina – Bryce Young at Atlanta – Michael Penix Jr.

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

Penix Jr. has the ability to really disrupt a Carolina Panthers’ defense that although plays hard doesn’t have to the talent to stop top offenses.

But Carolina struggles against the rush.

So Atlanta is likely, like what they’ve done since Penix Jr. got the starting call, to lean on Bijan Robinson.

Bryce Young is turning into a Kyler Murray clone.

He’s becoming one of the more solid starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Young posts the better stats even though the ATL should win this.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Bryce Young

Minnesota – Sam Darnold at Detroit – Jared Goff

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

Darnold versus Goff could be for the NFC North title as well as the top seed in the NFC Playoffs.

Darnold has been unreal this season.

He’s clicked with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Goff, though, takes on the rival Vikings on his turf.

Also, Goff has a secret weapon in running back Jahmyr Gibbs to go along with a pair of stretch the field receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williamson.

JG posts the better stats than Darnold.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Jared Goff

Seattle – Geno Smith at LA Rams – Matthew Stafford

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

Both quarterbacks lean on a top rushing attack.

The difference is that Stafford has two WR1s in Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp.

Also, Stafford’s running back, Kyrene Williams, is one of the top pass catchers out of the backfield.

However, this game will be tough because the defenses for both teams have stepped up in recent weeks.

Staff and the Rams have the edge on the scoreboard.

Geno can win the duel he’s got with Stafford.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Geno Smith

San Francisco – Brock Purday at Arizona – Kyler Murray

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

Purdy is playing for an extended contract.

So we should expect the San Francisco quarterback to step onto the field even though SF has been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Arizona Cardinals won’t make the playoffs either.

But the Cards have homefield and Kyler has more weapons in this than Purdy.

Even if James Conner doesn’t play, Murray can turn to McBride or Harrison.

There’s also Michael Carter and Murray is a master at using his legs.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Kyler Murray

Cincinnati – Joe Burrow at Pittsburgh – Russell Wilson

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

A lot could be at stake for Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and the Cincinnati Bengals.

A lot will also be at stake for Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers have a shot to win the AFC North.

If Pittsburgh beats Cincinnati and the Ravens fall to the Browns, Steel Town takes the division.

But Joe Burrow will be fighting for a playoff spot.

So we should expect the Bengals’ star QB to exact revenge on Wilson and the Steelers after losing the earlier season shootout.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Joe Burrow

Miami – Tua Tagovailoa at NY Jets – Aaron Rodgers

Sunday, January 5th, 2025

In what could be Aaron Rodgers’ final NFL game, the Jets hope to end the season on a high note when they take on Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins.

The Fins are likely to be playing for nothing.

Tua doesn’t do well on the road.

He also doesn’t play that well in the cold and both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have nagging injuries.

Rodgers lights up the Miami secondary.

NFL Week 18 QB Pick: Aaron Rodgers

How does it work?

How do I bet on a quarterback’s performance in an NFL game?

Betting on a quarterback’s performance in NFL Week 18 is an exciting way to engage with the action, especially as playoff spots and division titles come down to the wire.

There are several types of bets you can place that focus on a quarterback’s individual performance during the game. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular ways to bet on quarterbacks in Week 18:

  1. Over/Under Passing Yards
One of the most common ways to bet on a quarterback’s performance is by wagering on whether they will throw for more or less than a set number of passing yards.
Oddsmakers set a line for each quarterback, and you bet on whether the QB will surpass or fall short of that total.
Example: If a quarterback like Jared Goff has an over/under of 250 passing yards, you would bet on whether he will throw more or fewer yards in the game.
  2. Passing Touchdowns
You can also bet on how many touchdowns a quarterback will throw in the game.
This type of prop bet lets you wager on whether a quarterback will throw over or under a certain number of passing touchdowns.
Example: If a QB like Kirk Cousins has an over/under of 1.5 touchdowns, you can bet on whether he’ll throw 2 or more, or 1 or fewer.
  3. Quarterback to Throw an Interception
Another popular bet is whether a quarterback will throw an interception during the game.
Sportsbooks will set odds based on the QB’s past performance and the opposing defense.
Example: Betting on whether Sam Darnold will throw an interception in Week 18 is a way to bet on a quarterback’s decision-making under pressure.
  4. Quarterback to Score a Rushing Touchdown
If a quarterback is known for running the ball, such as Jalen Hurts or Justin Fields, you can bet on whether they will score a rushing touchdown during the game.
Example: A bet might be placed on Josh Allen rushing for a touchdown, especially if the game is close or if he’s used in goal-line situations.
  5. Player Prop Bets
In addition to the major statistics, sportsbooks may offer additional prop bets on quarterbacks, such as:
Total completions: Will a quarterback complete more than a certain number of passes?
Longest pass completion: How far will a quarterback’s longest throw be?
Quarterback to win MVP: In high-stakes games, you may find a bet on which quarterback will be named Player of the Game.
  6. Live Betting on Quarterbacks
During the game, many sportsbooks offer live betting options, where you can place wagers on a quarterback’s ongoing performance.
These bets may include live over/under on passing yards, touchdowns, or even whether the quarterback will throw an interception next.
  7. Betting on Quarterback Matchups
Some sportsbooks also offer quarterback matchup bets where you can compare two quarterbacks.
For example, you might bet on who will throw more yards between Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins in Week 18.
This type of bet is often found in prop bet markets and allows you to compare performance head-to-head.

To bet on a quarterback’s performance in NFL Week 18, look for player prop bets, over/under totals on passing yards or touchdowns, and other performance-based wagers. These types of bets can add excitement to the final week of the regular season, especially as quarterbacks fight for playoff positioning.

NFL Week 18 QB Matchups Betting Predictions & Picks for Every Game

Previous Betting News

NFL Week 18 is here and pretty much nothing has been decided. Almost every game on the week 18 schedule will affect playoff seeding. In this blog, we handicap quarterback matchups. Check out QB matchups analysis and NFL Betting picks for every game on the NFL Week 18 schedule.

Who’ll Win the Quarterback Matchups in Week 18? | NFL Lines & Betting Predictions

Kansas City – Patrick Mahomes vs Las Vegas – Jarrett Stidham | Saturday, Jan. 7

Mahomes is the easy pick, right? Not so fast. Stidham threw for 364 yards and tossed 3 touchdowns against the league’s best defense. Jarrett gets the nod in this individual matchup.

QB Matchup Pick: Jarrett Stidham

Tennessee – Joshua Dobbs vs. Jacksonville – Trevor Lawrence | Saturday, Jan. 7

Dobbs will struggle against one of the top defenses in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence should have an excellent day versus a Titans team that’s reeling in every way imaginable.

QB Matchup Pick: Trevor Lawrence

Baltimore – Tyler Huntley vs. Cincinnati – Joe Burrows | Sunday, Jan. 8

Here’s another where the matchup is one-sided. Joe Burrow is an MVP candidate. Tyler Huntley is filling in admirably for Lamar Jackson. But he made some bad plays that allowed the Steelers to grab a win in the Ravens’ last. Burrow wins this one.

QB Matchup Pick: Joe Burrow

Tampa Bay – Tom Brady vs Atlanta – Desmond Ridder | Sunday, Jan. 8

Brady rallied the Buccaneers against a much better team in NFL Week 17. The Panthers were up big over Tampa. But the Terrific One would have none of it.

Desmond Ridder will be a decent quarterback in the NFL but this is a training exercise for the Atlanta Falcons. Brady will be the one handing out the lessons.

QB Matchup Pick: Tom Brady

New England – Mac Jones vs Buffalo – Josh Allen | Sunday, Jan. 8

Jones has taken a step back this season. Mac suffered some injuries early in the season and hasn’t gotten back to playing his best ball.

Josh Allen, like Joe Cool in Cincinnati, is an MVP candidate. Allen for sure will outplay Jones.

QB Matchup Pick: Josh Allen

Minnesota – Kirk Cousins vs Chicago – Justin Fields | Sunday, Jan. 8

The Bears have just 3 wins. But if Justin Fields is one-hundred percent, he should dominate a Vikings’ defense that isn’t very good.

QB Matchup Pick: Justin Fields

Houston – Davis Mills vs Indianapolis – Sam Ehlinger | Sunday, Jan. 8

Throw a dart. We’ll go with the Texans because Mills can lean on a decent rushing attack and a pretty good defense. The Colts are ready to head to the fishing hole.

QB Matchup Pick: Davis Mills

NYJ – Mike White vs. Miami – Skylar Thompson | Sunday, Jan. 8

Jets’ quarterback Mike White might take a seat. Even if he doesn’t, Skyler Thompson gets the nod. We have to look at the supporting cast in this matchup and Skylar’s is much better than Mike’s.

QB Matchup Pick: Skylar Thompson

Carolina – Sam Darnold vs. New Orleans – Andy Dalton | Sunday, Jan. 8

Darnold has better stats. However, the Saints’ defense looked fantastic versus Gardner Minshew and the Philly Eagles in week 17. Sam isn’t a better QB than Gardner and this happens in the Superdome. In addition, Andy should be fired up after alma mater TCU upset Michigan and will play in the National Championship.

QB Matchup Pick: Andy Dalton

Cleveland – Deshaun Watson vs. Pittsburgh – Kenny Pickett | Sunday, Jan. 8

On paper, Watson should dominate. Pickett, though, has become a solid signal-caller. Twice in the past two weeks, Kenny has rallied the Steelers. Pittsburgh can make the playoffs with a victory. So we should expect Kenny to step it up.

QB Matchup Pick: Kenny Pickett

LAC – Justin Herbert vs. Denver – Russell Wilson | Sunday, Jan. 8

Herbert faces a much tougher defense than many believe. Denver picked it up against Kansas City in a decent game in week 17. The Broncos didn’t win but they played Mahomes and the Chiefs tough. Wilson turned it on in the matchup. There’s a chance Russell keeps it going.

QB Matchup Pick: Russell Wilson

NYG – Daniel Jones vs. Philadelphia – Gardner Minshew | Sunday, Jan. 8

Jones doesn’t make mistakes. But Daniel won’t post numbers close to Minshew. Gardner figures to throw for over 300 yards and at least 2 TDs. Jones will throw for 200 to 220 at best.

QB Matchup Pick: Gardner Minshew

Arizona – David Blough vs. San Francisco – Brock Purdy | Sunday, Jan. 8

Purdy is playing like a 10-year vet who hasn’t missed a start during his career. Blough is a journeyman quarterback who hopes to keep his second string spot into 2023-2024.

QB Matchup Pick: Brock Purdy

LAL – Baker Mayfield vs. Seattle – Geno Smith | Sunday, Jan. 8

Baker is playing decent football. So is Geno. The thing about this matchup is that Seattle will lean on their rushing attack. The Rams have zero rushing game. So even if the Seahawks win, they can even win big, Baker takes the individual matchup.

QB Matchup Pick: Baker Mayfield

Dallas – Dak Prescott vs. Washington – Carson Wentz | Sunday, Jan. 8

We’ve go the feeling Wentz is about to hang up the cleats. The man showed zero urgency in a must win game in week 17. Dak loves playing football. Prescott especially loves beating the Commanders. If the Cowboys win and the Eagles lose, Big D takes the NFC East. So expect Prescott to light up D.C.

QB Matchup Pick: Dak Prescott

Detroit – Jared Goff vs. Green Bay – Aaron Rodgers | Sunday, Jan. 8

Green Bay should win the game, but this is going to be close. Rodgers won’t push the envelope because Aaron knows if Green Bay hopes to make the playoffs, they must win.

Goff will outplay AR in this game. Jared has proven he’s a legit QB1.

QB Matchup Pick: Jared Goff
