Derek Carr threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with 2:04 remaining and Karl Joseph broke up a fourth-down pass in the end zone with 3 seconds left. Matthew Stafford threw for 406 yards and three touchdowns in the loss for Detroit. Both Carr and Stafford are long gone. The Raiders haven’t won in Detroit since 1990, also on Monday night.

Why Bet on Las Vegas?
The Raiders lost ugly in Chicago in Week 7 without starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo, but he’ll be back Monday. Garoppolo has seven touchdowns and a co-league-leading eight interceptions (alongside Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts).
The Raiders have been much better with Garoppolo this season. They’re 3-2 when he has started. In two games without Jimmy G, the Raiders offense has averaged 249.1 yards and 14.1 points per game, both losses.
“I think he’s got a little pep in his step,” head coach Josh McDaniels said. “Again, he’s much the same as everybody else is. He didn’t play last week, but I think he wants to get us headed in the right direction and start doing some things that we haven’t been doing as well better.”
Even with Garoppolo back in the lineup, the offense has a tough test against Detroit in Week 8. Lions second-year pass-rush Aidan Hutchinson’s 42 quarterback pressures are the second-most in the NFL, trailing only Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby’s 43.
Daniel Carlson (right groin) has been ruled questionable for the game after returning to practice in a limited role on Saturday. If Carlson cannot play, the team would elevate James McCourt, who they signed earlier this week to the practice squad. Also questionable are LB Curtis Bolton (knee) and CB Nate Hobbs (ankle).
Bolton was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 30 after sustaining a knee injury in the Week 3 game against the Steelers. Hobbs missed the previous four games with an ankle injury, however he was a limited participant in practice. Fellow CB Jakorian Bennett has been battling shoulder and knee injuries, but after full participation in Saturday’s practice, is off the injury report.
This will be Davante Adams’ first time playing against the Lions as a Raider. However in his 13 games played against them with Green Bay, the All-Pro receiver tallied 71 receptions, 778 receiving yards and seven touchdown catches. Despite his former success against this franchise, he’s not taking the 5-2 Lions lightly. Along with his success against the Lions, Adams has had stellar showings on the national stage, being one of four players in NFL history with at least 10 primetime games of 100+ receiving yards and a receiving touchdown. This season in primetime games, Adams has totaled 17 receptions, 217 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Why Bet on Detroit?
The Lions lead the NFC North at 5-2 and should easily win that division for the first time since 1993. No. 1 running back David Montgomery will miss a second straight game due to injury. First-round pick Jahmyr Gibbs was the lead back in Montgomery’s absence last week in a loss in Baltimore. He picked up 126 yards from scrimmage and scored his first NFL touchdown on a 21-yard run, but the score and the bulk of the yards came when the game was already out of reach.
The Lions added No. 1 WR Amon St. Brown to their Week 8 injury report Sunday due to an illness and are listing him as questionable for Monday’s contest. Since missing Week 5 against the Panthers due to an abdominal injury, St. Brown has been heavily utilized in the passing game, as he’s gathered in 25 of 34 targets for 226 yards and one touchdown over the last two games. He leads the team in receptions (51) and receiving yards (557) and is tied for team lead in receiving touchdowns (three). His 8.5 receptions per game are also the second-most among all receivers in 2023.
“This guy is really a talented player,” Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said. “He just he moves all over the formation. He’s obviously a very integral part of their offense. Explosive player when he gets the ball in his hands, very difficult to tackle.”
Lions Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow sat out practice again Saturday, his third straight practice missed with a calf injury this week. He’s officially listed as doubtful to play Monday night. Ragnow has been dealing with a chronic toe injury all season that Detroit’s been able to manage with rehab and days off practice. The calf injury is new, and head coach Dan Campbell said his center’s status is day-to-day. Ragnow is the fourth highest graded center by Pro Football Focus. He has not allowed a sack this season and has been great in the run game. Guard Jonah Jackson is out.
Defensively, the Lions have been strong against the run, averaging 76.3 yards allowed per game – second fewest in the league. They’ve allowed 21.6 points per game. That total is inflated by the 37 points they allowed to Seattle in an overtime loss, and the 38 allowed last week against the Ravens.
