NBA Championship Odds and Picks: Heat vs Nuggets Game 3 Prediction

How many times have you watched the opening game of a playoff series and thought that you were watching the first of what was likely to be a rather lopsided matchup? How surprised were you when the series took a turn and became a real battle? That is what we are potentially looking at with the NBA Finals, with Miami getting the split they so desired from the opening 2 games in Denver, beating a Nuggets team in their own building for this first time this postseason. While it now looks as though we have a series on our hands, that could all change again if Denver goes into Miami and steals home court advantage back with a win in Game 3. The pivotal 3rd game of the series goes on Wednesday night, and while it is far from being a series decider, it is a huge one for both teams. The Nuggets are in as a 2 ½ point road favorite on the NBA odds, with the point total set at 214 ½.

Why bet on the Miami Heat

Given how things have gone during these playoffs for the Miami Heat, we probably shouldn’t be surprised that they are simply not rolling over and dying against a higher ranked team. Since making it out of the play-in, which is no easy feat in itself, they have delivered surprise after surprise. Beating the Milwaukee Bucks in 5 games in Round 1 was arguably the biggest shock of this postseason, but then going on to beat the Knicks in 6 and the Celtics in 7, where they had gassed a 3-0 series lead, ranks not too far behind their opening round win. The Heat lost 104-93 in Game 1 and the talk began about them being seriously outmatched, but the adjustments they made in Game 2 helped them get a 111-108 win and give Denver their first home loss of these playoffs. Can they, though, carry that momentum back with them to Miami?

Why bet on the Denver Nuggets

After losing Game 2 of the series, the Nuggets find themselves in a bit of an odd position. In each of the 3 rounds prior to the Finals, they won both home games to go on the road with a 2-0 lead. While that means that the job is still only halfway done, being up a couple of games takes off some of the pressure, to be sure. That said, in their matchup with the Phoenix Suns, they went on the road and lost 2 in a row, which could have crippled a lesser team. They bounced back from that and got the job done in 6 games, and it is the only real time in their run to the Finals that you felt their series was in doubt. Denver played in Miami once in the regular season, getting a 112-108 win in that meeting. They would absolutely take more of the same in Game 3, as that would put them back in control again, and also win back home court advantage.

Expert Pick and Series Prediction

I think that the loss in Game 2 may well have served as a bit of a wake-up call for the Nuggets, who may just have become a little too comfortable after not losing at home in the playoffs prior to that one. I think they bounce back and get the win, covering in the process.
