Hornets vs Pacers Series History

It’s the last meeting of the season between the clubs with Indiana leading 2-1. They last played on Feb. 4 also in Charlotte and the Pacers prevailed 115-99. Pascal Siakam had 25 points, nine assists and eight rebounds and the Pacers overcame a then-career-high 35 points from Hornets rookie Brandon Miller. Aaron Nesmith added 22 points and Myles Turner had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who held the Hornets to 39.8% shooting from the field and 27.6% from beyond the arc. Indiana led by 24 in the third quarter, but the Hornets would cut the lead to 10 early in the fourth quarter behind Miller, who had 27 points in the second half. But the Hornets could never get within striking distance. Indiana leads the all-time series 74-53.

Why Bet on Indiana Pacers?

The Pacers were 125-111 winners at the New York Knicks on Saturday and it featured one of the assists of the year from star Tyrese Haliburton as he threw a pass to himself of the backboard and then fired it to an open Pascal Siakam at the three-point arc, with Siakam drilling the shot. It was just one of many highlights for the Pacers, who shot 61% from the field and went 14-for-29 from 3-point range as they claimed their third victory in their past four games.

“One characteristic that all great players have is resourcefulness and the ability, in a split second, to invent something special,” Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said of Haliburton’s pass. “And he did just that. That’s a play that created momentum for us. And, if for some reason that possession was unsuccessful, it could have created a lot of momentum for the Knicks. The only word I can really say is just, it’s just special … just special stuff.”

Haliburton finished with 22 points and 12 assists in 30 minutes, the first time in seven games since returning from a hamstring strain that Haliburton scored 20 or more points. Saturday was also the first since his return in which he played 30 minutes, a clear sign the Pacers are confident he’s 100 percent healthy. The fourth-year guard is up to 29 double-doubles on the season, three short of the career high he set in 2022-23. Haliburton leads the NBA with an average of 11.8 assists this season. That mark would be the most in a season since John Stockton in 1991-92 (13.7). Haliburton has recorded double-doubles in 28 games.

Myles Turner added 23 points and eight rebounds. The 27-year-old center appears fully recovered from the minor ankle injury that cost him a game in early February. In four contests since returning to the lineup, Turner is averaging 18.8 points and 7.0 boards while shooting 56.9 percent from the floor. On the season, Turner is 10th in the league in blocks at 1.9 per game.

The Pacers are 13-6 this season when Turner scores 20 or more points and 8-2 when he posts a double-double. Turner became the second player in franchise history to reach 1,200 blocks at Sacramento Jan. 18, and is now 33 blocks away from breaking Jermaine O’Neal’s franchise record for career blocks (1,245).

The Pacers currently have seven players who are averaging 10 or more points per game and have received key contributions off the bench from several players all season. They are 25-11 when six or more players score in double figures. Indiana has reached 140 or more points eight times (8-0 record) – which is the most in franchise history – 130 or more points 18 times this season (16-2) and 120 or more 35 times (26-9).

Why Bet on Charlotte Hornets?

The Hornets traded away several of their best players ahead of last week’s deadline and appear in full tank mode the rest of the way, although they did end a 10-game losing streak Saturday with a 115-106 win over Memphis, which is also tanking.

Miles Bridges had 25 points on 84.6 percent shooting (11-13 FG), six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block in the win, becoming the second player in franchise history to meet those thresholds in a game (Gerald Wallace). Bridges did so on Gerald Wallace Night at Spectrum Center. It marked Bridges’ 10th career 25-5-5 game.

Rookie Brandon Miller had 18 points and six rebounds. He is on pace to become the 11th qualified rookie in NBA history to record 15.0 points and 2.0 3-pointers per game. Miller is averaging 2.3 3-pointers per game, the most among rookies this season, and is on pace to set a new Hornets rookie record for 3s per game.

Vasilije Micic, a 30-year from Serbia who has played mostly overseas, joined Tre Mann, Grant Williams, Davis Bertans and Seth Curry in the Hornets’ rotation for the first time after Charlotte dealt mainstays P.J. Washington to Dallas and Gordon Hayward to Oklahoma City on Thursday. Micic had career highs with 18 points and nine assists in the win.

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said he was impressed with Micic’s awareness on the court.

“All the stuff you can’t teach,” Clifford said. “He knows where everybody is on the floor. Obviously he is a terrific passer and a good pick and roll player. And he’s got size. He’s big. Some of those passes maybe other guys can see, but don’t have the ability to make the play.”

Williams recorded 15 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes in his Charlotte debut. Williams has tallied at least 15 points in eight games this season, adding eight or more rebounds in three of those outings. Mann had nine points and nine assists in his team debut. The third-year guard set a season high in assists, surpassing his previous season high of four dimes which has occurred twice this season.

Charlotte remains without its best player in guard LaMelo Ball due to injury. He hasn’t played since Jan. 26 and not expected Monday, either. Ball is averaging 1.2 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, which is second in the NBA, and 2.4 assists in the fourth quarter, which is third.
