2024 MLB AL Championship Series Picks

Winner: Texas Rangers +540

The defending champs boast the same team from last season. What makes Texas the best play to go back-to-back in the AL, though, isn’t just the rotation headed by Nathan Eovaldi, or the bats led by Corey Seager.

It’s manager Bruce Bochy. The man is a genius. He won the World Series with the San Francisco Giants with a single pitcher, Madison Baumgarner. Bochy always makes the right moves in the postseason. So if the Rangers make it back to the playoffs, they’ll have a shot to win another World Series.

Runner up: Minnesota Twins +1000

The AL Central isn’t deep. In fact, after the Twins, there isn’t much to like in the division. So Minnesota should have a clear path to the postseason.

Pablo Lopez will be a Cy Young contender for sure. If Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, and Chris Paddack can hold their own, the Twins will have one of the top rotations in baseball.

The bats are solid. Overall, though, the lineup must pick up the individual averages for Minnesota to truly contend. The belief here is that at least a few of those averages break .300.

Third Choice: Houston Astros +380

On paper, the Stros win the AL pennant. But isn’t that the case every season? And how many times does Houston actually make it to the World Series?

It feels like the Astros make it every season, but that’s not the case. In addition, eventually, all teams suffer a down turn. Houston scored a playoff spot in 2023 and then did nothing in the postseason. So the Stros down turn could have started. The odds are another issue. They’re way too low to warrant a bet.

Houston Astros
Third Pick: +380 | Odds for AL Pennant MyBookie Betting Lines for the Title

Top Underdog Pick: Boston Red Sox +2000

The Red Sox have a sneaky interesting team. For sure, beating the Orioles, Yankees, and Blue Jays in the AL East won’t be easy. Boston, though, has the potential to field an excellent lineup.

Pitching is a question. If Brayan Bello takes the next step, he could end up with a sub-4.00 ERA. Lucas Giolito must have a bounce back season. If that happens, maybe, the Sox are this season’s under the radar squad ala the D’Backs in 2023.

2023 NL Teams That Look Like Solid Picks for MLB Betting Fans

Previous Betting News

It appears as if the National League is deeper than anyone thought. Most of the top teams in the NL to back after two weeks of play weren’t close to being the favorites to win their division.

Check out the list of squads that look like solid MLB betting lines heading into mid-April.

NL Teams That Look Like Solid Picks for MLB Betting Fans

2023 MLB Regular Season: Thursday, Mar. 30 – Sunday, Oct. 1

National League | National League of Professional Baseball Clubs
Most recent champion(s): Philadelphia Phillies: 8th title
Divisions: 3
No. of teams: 15

Arizona Diamondbacks

NL Pennants: 1 | 2001
West Division titles: 5 | 1999, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2011

The Arizona Diamondbacks were supposed to be one of the worst teams in MLB this season. Not only are the D’Backs not one of the worst teams so far, but they’re one of the most profitable to back.

AZ is 4-2 in home games and 3-3 in away games. They’re a terrific 8-4 on the run line. The D’Backs are +327 on the run line. So if you bet Zona, consider backing them on the RL.

Pittsburgh Pirates

NL Pennants: 9 | 1901, 1902, 1903, 1909, 1925, 1927, 1960, 1971, 1979
NL East Division titles: 9 | 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1979, 1990, 1991, 1992

The Pirates are -84 on the RL but they’re a fantastic 7-4 straight up. So the Pirates are an incredible +465 on the money line.

+465 isn’t bad for a team whose ace, Rosey Contreras, is 1-1 with an 8.00 ERA. The Pirates win when they shouldn’t, which boosts their payout. Back the Pirates on the ML before the RL.

Milwaukee Brewers

NL Pennants: 0
NL Central Division titles: 3 | 2011, 2018, 2021
NL East Division titles: 2 | 1981, 1982

St. Louis was the chalk to win the NL Central. Milwaukee was second choice. Right now, the Brewers are the team to beat.

Milwaukee’s 8-3 money line record dazzles. The Brew Crew is +475, tops in MLB, on the run line. Backing Milwaukee to win straight up and to win by 1.5, or not lose by 1.5, has led to moneymaking wins.

Chicago Cubs

NL Pennants: 17 | 1876, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1885, 1886, 1906, 1907, 1908, 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, 1945, 2016
NL Central Division titles: 6 | 2003, 2007, 2008, 2016, 2017, 2020
NL East Division titles: 2 | 1984, 1989

As of April 11, the Cubbies have a winning 6-4 record. Chicago is also +406 on the run line. So far, the Brewers, Pirates, and Cubs have made the NL Central naysayers eat their words.

The Cubs are winning because their ace is dominating. Marcus Stroman is 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA after 2 starts. If James Tallion catches up to Marcus, the Cubs will have a tough 1-2 starting punch.

Atlanta Braves

NL Pennants: 18 | 1877, 1878, 1883, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1897, 1898, 1914, 1948, 1957, 1958, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2021
NL East Division titles: 17 | 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022
NL West Division titles: 5 | 1969, 1982, 1991, 1992, 1993

The Braves are a horrible run line team. Don’t even think about backing the ATL on the run line. Atlanta is -302 when it comes to the RL.

But when it comes to the money line, the Braves are a solid play. Atlanta is 8-4 this season. Max Fried is on the 15-day DL, which means we could see softer money lines in the next week or so, which will lead to more profit if the Braves win.

San Diego Padres

NL Pennants: 0
NL West Division titles: 5 | 1984, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2006

The Friars are only -3 on the run line. So if we pick and choose our run line plays on San Diego games, we could profit.

When it comes to the money line, SD is 7-5. Word of caution regarding the money line. Consider backing San Diego when they’re away, +146, before backing them at Petco, -139.

MyBookie Betting Lines for the Game

New York Mets

NL Pennants: 5 | 1969, 1973, 1986, 2000, 2015
NL West Division titles: 6 | 1969, 1973, 1986, 1988, 2006, 2015

The Mets are just 6-6 on the money line. But NYM is +422 on the run line. Right now, the team from Queens is a much better RL play than a ML play.

That could change if Max Scherzer gets it together and Justin Verlander returns to the rotation. Be cautious when it comes to betting on NYM.

Los Angeles vs San Francisco MLB Lines Report

Previous Betting News

The Los Angeles Dodgers put on a record-setting performance in winning their season opener against San Diego on Monday before shutting up their NL West division rivals in Game 2 the following day. After their Game 3 matchup against the Padres on Wednesday, the Dodgers look to kick off a three-game set against the divison rival Giants by looking to stay hot, both at the plate and on the mound. Now, let’s find out if the Giants can tame the Dodgers and get a big division win. Find out the latest MLB betting odds here.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants MLB Lines Report

When: Thursday, April 07 – 4:35 PM EST
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
Line: N/A TOTAL: N/A
TV: SNLA Spanish, SportsNet LA
Probable Starters
Dodgers: Alex Wood (L)
Giants: Jake Peavy (R)

Why Bet the Los Angeles Dodgers

Because they’ve looked great through two games.

After smacking the Padres senseless in their stunning 15-0 season-opening win on Monday, the Dodgers beat san Diego 3-0 on Tuesday and will hit this game feeling pretty good about themselves no matter what happens in Wednesday night’s series final against the Padres. For this contest, L.A. will hand the ball to southpaw starter Alex Wood, but that may not be a good thing, seeing as how Wood went from sixth starter to fourth only because Hurlers Brett Anderson and Hyun-Jin Ryu are hurt. Wood went 5-6 in a dozen starts spanning 70.0 innings last season while posting a 4.35 ERA with 23 walks and 49 strikeouts along the way.

The good news for L.A. is that the Dodgers are 6-0 in their last six games against their NL West division rivals, 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. The bad news is that L.A. is just 2-5 in Alex Woods’ last seven road starts.

Why Bet the San Francisco Giants

Because they’re playing at home against a heated division rival.

The Giants pounded the rebuilding Milwaukee Brewers into submission 12-3 in their series opener on Monday before holding off the Brewers 2-1 on Tuesday. Now, the expected World Series contenders will turn to veteran right-hander Jake Peavy to led them to victory over the Dodgers. At this time last year, Peavy was kicking off his 2015 campaign with a sore lower back. The former longtime Padres star made two early-season starts before going on the disabled list through early July. Peavy returned and closed out the season with a solid 8-6 record and 3.58 ERA in 110.2 innings pitched.

The good news for the Giants is that they’ve gone 25-12 in their last 37 home games and a perfect 8-0 in Jake Peavy’s last eight home starts.

Expert Prediction and Pick

Let me get right to the point by saying that San Francisco is the easy pick in this contest with Jake Peavy on the mound and a mediocre Alex Wood going for L.A. While the Dodgers are 6-2 in the last eight meetings against San Francisco, L.A. is also just 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in San Francisco and the Giants are 5-1 in Jake Peavy’s last six starts and 4-1 in the former Cy Young winner’s last five starts against their NL West division rivals. Frisco wins by a minimum of two runs.

My final score prediction is San Francisco 5 L.A. 3.
