The trade deadline has passed, and teams are settled in with their rosters for the remainder of the season. The AL Central and NL Central are by far the two closest divisional races in MLB, but the NL East could get a little tighter as the Braves and Mets do battle for five games at Citi Field this weekend.
The new look Padres will see how they stack up against the Dodgers as that series highlights the weekend. Yankees at Cardinals and Blue Jays at Twins also have some interesting storylines but let’s take a look at some of the best individual games of the weekend so you can make your bets against the MLB Lines.
Week 17 Winning SU Picks for the Weekend Action | MLB Betting Predictions
Red Sox at Royals, Friday 8:10 PM ET
This is a toss-up game on the odds, but Zack Greinke at home is a different pitcher than on the road. Greinke has allowed just two ER in his last four home starts compared to 17 in his last four away outings.
Reds at Brewers, Friday 8:10 PM ET
Milwaukee is coming home angry after getting swept in a three-game series in Pittsburgh when the Brewers‘ starting pitchers were Corbin Burnes, Freddy Peralta, and Brandon Woodruff.
The Reds have won four of their last five but send Robert Dugger to the mound in his first start of 2022, only throwing 3.2 innings of relief on July 7th as his last appearance.
The Brewers are also now tied with the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central. With St.Louis hosting the 70-36 Yankees this weekend, it’s a great opportunity for Milwaukee to move back into sole possession at the top.
Marlins at Cubs, Saturday 2:20 PM ET
The Cubs are just 20-32 at home this season, and they’ll likely add another one to the L column against Pablo Lopez on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins pitcher has allowed 11 ER in his last two home starts but has given up 2 ER over 12.0 IP in his previous two road outings.
Nationals at Phillies, Saturday 6:05 PM ET
Washington couldn’t move Patrick Corbin’s 6-year, $140 million contract as part of a Juan Soto trade at the deadline, but they can recoup some of that money just by betting against Corbin every game.
The left-hander was 0-4 with a 7.99 ERA in July, and that’s not even his worst month of the season (0-4, 8.69 ERA in April).
Braves at Mets, Sunday 4:10 PM ET
This is a game that easily could have been a high-rating Sunday Night Baseball matchup on ESPN, but that’s saved for the Padres at Dodgers – which will also do well.
Atlanta and New York play a doubleheader on Saturday, which means their Sunday afternoon series finale will be all about the starting pitchers.
The Mets are in a good spot in that regard, sending Jacob deGrom to the mound for his second start of the year after allowing an ER over 5.0 IP in his debut on Tuesday vs Washington.
