Series History
Atlanta won the season series last year 3-1 and leads all-time 69-62. The Magic have won 10 of the last 19 regular season meetings at home, but lost 19 of the last 26 on the road. This is a neutral-site game. It marks the league’s 32nd game in Mexico since 1992, more than any country outside the U.S. and Canada, and marks the Hawks’ first-ever trip to Mexico City.
Why Bet on Atlanta?
The Hawks had a four-game winning streak snapped in a 126-117 loss in Oklahoma City on Monday. Trae Young had 22 points but shot just 5-for-18 overall and added 11 assists and four rebounds. Young enters Thursday’s game having recorded 20-or-more points and 10-or-more assists in each of his past three games, averaging 22.3 points and 11.0 assists over that time. He now has 131 career 20-point, 10-assist outings, one such game shy of tying Bob Cousy for the 15th-most such games in NBA history. Young is leading the NBA in total assists for the third straight season (73), while ranking second in assists per game (10.4) and assist percentage (40.8%). But he’s shooting just 33.6 percent from the field, which is about 10 points lower than his typical season average.
Dejounte Murray had a team-high 29 points to go with six assists and four rebounds. Jalen Johnson had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Murray is averaging career bests in points per game (22.6), FG% (.500%) and FT% (.862%). Murray has scored at least 20 points in each of his past four games, averaging 28.5 points on .560 FG%, .500 3FG% and .889 FT% over that time, marking the fifth time in his career he’s netted 20+ points in four-or-more games.
Johnson finished with double-digit rebounds for the third straight contest, notching his second straight double-double. Onyeka Okongwu compiled seven points and 14 rebounds across 25 minutes. Okongwu came off the bench and pulled down a season-high rebound total while doing little else. He played more minutes than starter Clint Capela, and the two have been splitting minutes fairly evenly for most of the early season.
Okongwu (.628%, 10th), Johnson (.575%, 14th) and Capela (.564 FG%, 18th) all rank in the top-20 in FG% in the NBA this season. They are the only trio of teammates in the league to be ranked Top 20. All three grabbed at least 12 rebounds Monday, the first time since 4/13/12 the club had three players each grab at least 12 boards.
Bogdan Bogdanovic has buried 17 triples this season (all off the bench), tied for the fourth-most bench three-pointers in the NBA, and has also recorded 11 steals, tied for the second-most thefts as a reserve.
Atlanta, averaging 122.0 points and 27.6 assists through its first seven games of the season, is one of only three teams in the NBA to be averaging at least 120.0 points and 25.0 assists per game. The Hawks have handed out 25-or-more assists in six consecutive games. The club’s six straight games with 100+ points and 25+ assists ties the sixth-longest such streak in franchise history and the third-longest active such streak in the NBA.
The Hawks have won nine of their last 11 outings against the Magic, averaging 117.6 points, 46.6 rebounds and 25.1 assists (.478 FG%, .389 3FG%, .834 FT%).

Why Bet on Orlando?
The Magic remain without starting center Wendell Carter, who was born in Atlanta. Last week, he fractured the third metacarpal in his left hand during the team’s win over the Utah Jazz and will miss about three more weeks. Though Carter hadn’t been at his best through the first five games — 9.4 points and 8.6 rebounds on 37.8% shooting from the field — he is still a significant loss on both sides of the ball.
Orlando lost 117-102 at home to Dallas on Monday. Dallas shot 50 percent from the floor and was 15-of-40 from beyond the three-point arc. It was a game of two entirely different halves. Orlando dominated the first half, shooting 59.1 percent and dished out 20 assists, to take a 66-53 halftime lead. However, Dallas took control in the second half, outscoring the Magic, 64-36. The Mavericks held Orlando to 34.1 percent shooting during the second half, including 1-of-16 from three-point range.
Former No. 1 overall pick Paolo Banchero had 22 points, six assists and five rebounds. Banchero notched at least five assists for the third consecutive game, and he’s on pace to exceed the 3.7 assists per game he averaged as a rookie. Moritz Wagner accumulated 19 points and five boards. Wagner played a season-high 26 minutes, splitting center duties with Goga Bitadze (seven points, six rebounds) with Carter out. Wagner has a tendency to gobble usage when on the court as evidenced by his per-36 minute averages of 21.4 points and 8.6 rebounds.
Orlando will be playing their third regular season game in team history in Mexico City and making their fourth trip overall, including a preseason game on Oct. 7, 2012 (85-80 loss to New Orleans). The Magic are 2-0 all-time during the regular season in Mexico City. The Magic defeated Chicago on Dec. 13, 2018, 97-91, then beat Utah on Dec. 15, 2018, 96-89. Orlando is 4-1 all-time in regular season games played outside of the United States and Canada.
The Magic are averaging 108.6 ppg. (760 points) this season and have scored 100+ points seven times (4-3 record), 110+ points three times (3-0 record) and 120+ points once, including a season-high 120 points on Nov. 4 vs. L.A. Lakers. Last season, the Magic averaged 111.4 ppg. (9,136 points), scored 100+ points 72 times (32-40 record), 110+ points 46 times (27-19 record), 120+ points 15 times (9-6 record) and 130+ points three times (3-0 record).
Orlando is shooting .455 (279-613), including a season-high .483 (42-87) on Oct. 25 vs. Houston. Since the 2019-20 season, Orlando is 41-9 (.820) when shooting 50 percent-or-better from the field. Last season, the Magic shot .470 (3,323-7,074) from the floor and shot 50 percent-or-better 26 times (18-8 record), including a season-high .592 (42-71) on Dec. 9 vs. Toronto. Orlando is shooting .319 (69-216) from three-point range this season and made 10+ three-pointers three times (2-1 record). Orlando has scored 30+ points in a quarter 12 times this season.
Point guard Markelle Fultz and center Jonathan Isaac both missed Monday’s game with minor injuries but both have a good chance of playing this game.
