Magic at Hornets Odds, Analysis & Score Prediction – 2024 NBA Week 6 Lines

The Orlando Magic remain without star injured big man Paolo Banchero but are leading the Southeast Division and have won two straight games as they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.

The Magic are favored on the NBA odds to take a 2-0 season series lead.

Opening Lines Subject to Change: Magic -5 (total 213)
Expert Prediction: Magic 110, Hornets 105

Orlando Magic -196

The Magic won for the eighth time in nine games Saturday, 111-100 over Detroit. Franz Wagner had 30 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead the way. Wagner, who has scored 30 or more points in five of his last seven games, sat out the fourth quarter while the Magic’s bench stretched Orlando’s lead to 22 with 7:19 remaining. Wagner nearly had the first triple-double of his NBA career and now has eight games with at least 25/5/5 this season, which he was only able to do seven times in the first three years of his NBA career.

Franz Wagner

Wagner has taken on a much bigger role on offense since Paolo Banchero tore his oblique in late October. Since Banchero’s injury, Wagner has averaged 25.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.8 steals over 33.9 minutes per game. Banchero isn’t close to a return.

“An introduction to superstardom,” brother and teammate Moritz Wagner said of Franz. “Not to exaggerate, but I think he’s understanding his power and how good he can be.”

Jonathan Isaac

Isaac has been getting more time off the bench with Banchero out and had five points and a season-high 12 rebounds vs. the Pistons. It was just the second time Isaac has logged double-digit rebounds this season.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

After missing the previous game with a minor injury, Caldwell-Pope was back Saturday and had eight points. However, fellow starting guard Jalen Suggs left with hamstring soreness and might miss time. Suggs left the floor during the second quarter and spent a chunk of time away from the bench area. While he did return to the bench out of halftime, he did not again take off his warmups or attempt to return. Second-year guard Anthony Black started the second half for Suggs. This season, he’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

With an 8-0 record at home, Orlando joins Cleveland as the only undefeated teams at home in the NBA as of Sunday. The Magic have opened the regular season with eight straight home victories for the first time ever since moving into Kia Center, the most since winning their first 10 in 1998-99 and for just the fourth time in franchise history. The most home wins all-time to start a season is 33, set back in 1995-96.

The Streak

Orlando has won 12 consecutive regular season games at Kia Center, dating back to March 30, 2024. That ties for the fourth-longest home winning streak in franchise history. The longest is 40 games, from March 21, 1995-March 19, 1996, which is the fourth-longest in NBA history. The Magic are 8-5 this season in games decided by 10 points-or-more. Those eight wins by 10+ points are tied for the third-most in the NBA. Last season, the Magic were 27- 0 in those situations. Orlando is 3-1 in games decided by five points-or-less.

Charlotte Hornets +158

Saturday was a rough night for Charlotte as it lost 125-119 at Milwaukee and also lost forward Grant Williams to a season-ending injury. Milwaukee opened the fourth quarter with a 14-5 spurt for a 110-90 lead, but the Hornets got it to 121-119 on Brandon Miller’s 3-pointer with 15 seconds left. Taurean Prince answered with a pair of free throws for the Bucks to make it a two-possession game, and Charlotte missed a pair of 3-pointers on the ensuing possession. Giannis Antetokounmpo hit two free throws with 4.5 seconds left to make it 125-119.

LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball had a career-high 50 points in the loss along with 10 assists and five rebounds. His previous high in points was 38 twice, including earlier this month against the 76ers. Ball joined Kemba Walker as the only Hornets players to reach 50 points in a game in franchise history and at 23 became the third-youngest player in NBA history to achieve that mark. Ball only had 10 points at halftime, but he took over after intermission, particularly in the third quarter when he repeatedly attacked the basket and posted 22 points.

Charles Lee

“He’s been phenomenal with his offensive production so far,” Coach Lee said. “Things that I think he can continue to grow in are just understanding time and score. Slowing down a little bit and not letting the defense speed him up and just getting the shots that he wants or that we want is an area for him that he can continue to watch film and continue to talk about.”

Ball has scored more than 30 points in eight of 12 November games, averaging 30.8 points, 6.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds. On the season, Ball is one of seven qualified players this season to average 25.0 points and 5.0 assists (Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Brunson, Luka Doncic, De’Aaron Fox, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jayson Tatum).

Brandon Miller

Miller added 32 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season while topping 30 points for the second straight game. Miller has drained at least three three-pointers in nine of 11 November games, averaging 21.0 points, 5.3 boards and 4.0 assists.

Williams, who is averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season, was injured late in the fourth quarter and suffered season-ending tears to the ACL, meniscus and associated ligaments in his right knee. In his sixth NBA season, Williams had established himself as a veteran leader for the Hornets and a starter alongside LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges. The Hornets ranked 29th in defense last season, but have improved to No. 19 so far this season with Williams playing an important role in their forward rotation.

Magic vs Hornets Series History

Orlando is 63-60 all-time vs. Charlotte (35-27 at home, 28-33 on the road), including 1-0 this season. On Nov. 12, the Magic routed the visiting Hornets 114-89. Franz Wagner scored 32 points and Jalen Suggs hit his first seven shots, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Magic. Suggs had 13 points in the first quarter and finished with 17 points and two steals. LaMelo Ball’s big first quarter (16 points, two assists) and 3-point shooting (10 of 21) kept the Hornets in the game despite 10 turnovers in the second quarter. 2019 Hornets vs Magic

Thursday is the last night of NBA action before the All-Star break, and two All-Stars will take the court between Charlotte and Orlando: Hornets point guard Kemba Walker and Orlando center Nikola Vucevic. The Magic are NBA odds favorites to get the win Thursday.

Season Series

The Magic have lost the last 13 meetings with the Hornets (last win: Dec. 16, 2015, Orlando, 113-98) and 16 of the last 19 overall. On Oct. 19 in Orlando this season, the Hornets rolled 120-88. Kemba Walker scored a game-high 26 points as Charlotte handed Orlando its sixth largest home loss in team history. On New Year’s Eve in Charlotte, the Hornets won 125-100. Walker led six Hornets in double figures with 24 points, including 20 during the first half. The Magic opened the game with a 14-4 run, but Charlotte dominated the rest of the contest. The Hornets outscored Orlando in the first quarter, 36-23, and led by as many as 35 points during the second half.

Orlando is 50-53 all-time vs. Charlotte (29-23 at home, 21-30 on the road).

Why Bet on Charlotte?

The Charlotte Hornets are great at home and just suck royally on the road. That was on display Monday in a 99-90 loss in Indiana. Kemba Walker scored half of the Hornets’ points during a 10-3 spurt to open the third quarter, made three consecutive free throws to get Charlotte within 64-57 and then made 3 with 1:02 left in the quarter to cut the deficit to 72-71. But Myles Turner and Darren Collison closed out the third with back-to-back baskets, and the game was never much in doubt after that. The Hornets were 7 of 40 on 3s, 25 of 33 on free throws and shot a season-low 32.2 percent.

Walker, who will start Sunday’s All-Star Game in Charlotte, had another monster game in hitting 10-of-23 shots and 10-of-12 free throws for 34 points. Walker finished as a +11, but Charlotte’s second unit was destroyed. Walker topped off his line with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and four triples in 39 minutes. He has five straight games with 30+ points and averaging 34.0 points, 7.0 assists, 6.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 5.2 triples in that span.

Jeremy Lamb combined for 21 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. It marked Lamb’s 10th game of at least 20 points this season, good for second most on the team behind only Walker. Lamb has scored 20+ points a career-high 10 times in 53 appearances this season after recording five such games in 80 appearances a season ago.

Shelvin Mack struggled awfully in his Charlotte debut on Monday, finishing scoreless with two missed shots, one assist and one steal in 12 minutes. He was a -20 during his time on the floor. Mack will be competing with Devonte’ Graham (illness) for third-string PG duties once Tony Parker (back) comes back. Parker is doubtful to play on Thursday. He has sat out the past three games, and he was limited at Wednesday’s practice.

Why Bet on Orlando?

The Orlando Magic won a fourth straight on Tuesday, 118-88 in New Orleans. Pels star Anthony Davis scored just three points on 1-of-9 shooting and was thoroughly outplayed by Orlando center Nikola Vucevic. Davis’ scoring output Tuesday was the lowest of his career in any game where he played at least 21 minutes. “We sucked,” Davis said. “Nobody was interested in playing, is what it looked like.”

The Magic outrebounded New Orleans 58-42. They had 32 assists on 42 made field goals and combined to make 21 of 22 free throws. Jonathan Isaac scored a career-high 20 points, including 16 in the first quarter, when Orlando raced to a 39-11 lead. Isaac hit 7-of-18 shots overall and a couple 3-pointers for his 20 points, seven rebounds, one assist and three blocks.

Hornets vs Magic looks like a safe one for Orlando.

Vucevic torched the Pelicans for 25 points, 17 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a 3-pointer on 10-of-18 shooting. Vucevic has led (or tied) the team in scoring 26 times, in rebounding 46 times and in assists 12 times. He has scored in double figures 55 times, 20+ points 32 times and 30+ points five times. He has team-high 40 double-doubles and one triple-double.

D.J. Augustin hit just 1-of-3 shots for two points, five rebounds, and six assists in 20 minutes. Wesley Iwundu came off the bench for 17 minutes and hit 3-of-6 shots and two 3-pointers for eight points, three rebounds, two steal, and two blocks. It marks the first time Orlando has recorded a four-game winning streak since Nov. 25-Dec. 3, 2015, when the Magic won five straight.
