They have made it to the Finals by dropping just 2 games across 3 rounds, so they are going to be a formidable for whoever moves on in the West. Some will suggest that the outcome of the Western Conference Final is a foregone conclusion now that the Dallas Mavericks have a 3-0 lead. Momentum shifts can happen quickly in a playoff series, though, so if the Timberwolves can slaw one back on the road before heading home, we might yet get a series. It is the Mavericks who are slight favorites at -1 ½ in Game 4, with the point total set at 210 ½.

If there is a glimmer of hope to be found in the Timberwolves current situation, it’s that this is not the first time that they have been on the brink of elimination during these playoffs. They got things off to a solid start, cruising past the Phoenix Suns in a 4-game sweep in Round 1. Things got a little trickier in Round 2 against the defending champion Denver Nuggets. The T-Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead before losing 3 in a row to move to the brink of elimination. They won the final 2 games to move on. This series has been close, with the opening 2 games decided by a total of 3 points. The downside is that they are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 versus Dallas, but they are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games. The OVER has hit in 6 of their last 8 road trips.

It sounds like an old cliché, but there is some truth to the fact that the 4th win in a series is generally the toughest one to get. The Mavericks have had to battle their way to the Western Conference Final, beating the LA Clippers in 6 games in Round 1, and then winning in the same number of games against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. By comparison, this series has been a little easier, although the opening 2 games were close. The Mavericks have won 12 of their last 15 at home, as well as going 7-2 SU in their last 9 home games versus the Timberwolves. They have covered in 6 of their last 8 games in the playoffs, with the OVER hitting in 4 of their last 5 games.
