Off a big upset at defending NBA champion Boston, the Golden State Warriors continue their road trip by trying to knock off the league’s only unbeaten team in Cleveland, with the Cavs as short favorites on the NBA odds.
Golden State at Cleveland: 2024 NBA Expert Analysis in Week 3
Opening Lines Subject to Change: Cavaliers -3 (total 228.5) Expert Prediction: Cavaliers 115, Warriors 113 |
Golden State Warriors +113
The Warriors (7-1) stunned the Celtics in Boston on Wednesday night, 118-112, for their fifth straight win. With Golden State holding a 115-112 lead, Draymond Green hit a free throw with 11 seconds left. Kyle Anderson sealed it with two free throws with 2.4 seconds to play. It certainly helped that All-Star Jaylen Brown was out for Boston, but Dubs guard Brandin Podziemski was out with an illness and is day-to-day. Podziemski ranks third in the NBA in plus-minus with a plus-100. Last season, Podziemski led the Warriors in plus-minus with a plus-264 and was second among rookies.
Steph Curry
Curry was terrific with 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in a season-high 34 minutes. Curry made 4-of-9 from behind the 3-point line and nailed all seven of his free throws. He also had one of his best nights of the young campaign defensively, collecting a season-best four steals. Curry has looked strong in two appearances since returning from a left ankle sprain, tallying 51 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists in 58 total minutes.

Despite a victory over the defending champions — one that saw the Warriors end the night with the NBA’s third-best offense, second-best defense and best net rating (plus-15.5 points per 100 possessions) — Curry said he wasn’t ready to give his team State too much credit.
“We haven’t done anything yet,” said Curry. “A good team, or a relevant team, wins the games they are supposed to win, you steal a couple on the road against good teams, you protect your home court. We’ve done those things so far, but we got two more games on this road trip, two tough tests. So I like where we’re at, obviously. But [there’s a] long way to go.”
Buddy Hield
Hield had 16 points and six rebounds and continues to produce off the bench for the Warriors in his first season in Golden State. Against the Celtics, Hield was a +19 in 29 minutes and made 4-of-7 attempts from behind the 3-point line. Hield has six 20-point games this season, five coming as a reserve, most 20-point games this season by a player coming off the bench. His 37 triples are the most ever for a player in their first eight games with a new team.
Jonathan Kuminga
Kuminga notched 10 points and four boards in just 18 minutes – his minutes noticeably diminished, but it didn’t prevent him from scoring in double figures for a sixth straight appearance. Golden State played 11 players on Monday — and all of them received at least 13 minutes. Golden State reserves have scored at least 50 points in six of the first eight games this season (6-0 in those games).
The last time the Warriors began a season with a 7-1 record was in 2021-22 when they started 11-1 and the last time they won their first five road games of a season was in 2015-16 when they started 14-0. The Warriors have used six different starting lineups in their last six games.
Friday marks 21st time in NBA history a team with an undefeated home record faces a team with an unblemished road record (minimum four games) and the second time in Warriors franchise history they are involved in a such a matchup (Nov. 12, 1960 Philadelphia Warriors, 4-0 road, at St. Louis Hawks, 5-0 home).
Dating back to last season, the Warriors have won 22 of their last 26 road games (Feb. 5, 2024 to Nov. 6, 2024). The last time Golden State accomplished this was from April 2017 to January 2018. The Warriors have won their first five road games for the first time since the 2015-16 season when they won their first 14 road contests.
^Cleveland Cavaliers -156
The Cavs (9-0) are the NBA’s only unbeaten following a 131-122 win in New Orleans on Wednesday. It’s the first 9-0 start in team history, breaking the previous franchise record of 8-0 by the 1976-77 squad that finished 43-39 under coach Bill Fitch. Cleveland had no trouble rallying back from an early 12-point deficit on the road and did so in part by shooting 54.2% overall, including 48.6% from 3-point range.

Donovan Mitchell
Mitchell had a team-high 29 points along with four rebounds and three assists. He topped 20 points for the sixth time in the last seven games and is shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 43.1 percent from three-point range over that stretch while averaging 24.9 points, 4.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds. Jarrett Allen had 16 points and 14 rebounds for a third straight double-double. His 11.9 boards and 2.4 combined blocks and steals a game would be career high, as would his 68.8 percent shooting from the floor, and he’s scored at least 14 points eight times. The Cavaliers are 38-13 over Allen’s last 51 double-doubles since March of 2023.
Darius Garland
Point guard Garland had 14 points and nine assists — he has dished at least eight assists in four of the last five contests while scoring in double digits in eight straight, and over the latter stretch he’s averaging 21.4 points and 6.9 assists while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent (29-for-58) from beyond the arc. Sixth man Caris LeVert returned from a two-game injury absence and had 16 points and six boards off the bench. He is shooting blistering 59.6 percent from the floor and 52.0 percent from long range through his first seven contests while averaging 12.6 points.
The Record
Cleveland already has scored at least 130 points in four games this season, tying the same number of games it had all of the 2023-24 campaign. The team record for 130 points games is five done twice, in 2016-17 & 2017-18. Kenny Atkinson has become the first coach in NBA history to start 9-0 with a new team. His 9-straight wins is also tied for the 2nd-longest winning streak to begin a career with a team at any point of a season (Lawrence Frank – 13-0 from Jan. 27-Feb. 24, 2004 with the Nets and Kurt Rambis – 9-0 from Feb. 26 to March 12, 1999 with the Lakers).
The Cavs are the second team in NBA history to start 9-0 and score 110+ PTS in each game (1960-61 PHI). Cleveland ranks 1st in the NBA in FG% (.526), 1st in PPG (123.2 PPG), 2nd in 3-point percentage (.421 3FG%) and 2nd in 3-pointers made (138 3FGM).
“We’re playing good basketball,” said Mitchell. We’ve done it in so many different ways. We’ve had blowouts, close games, come-from-behind wins. It’s just the habits that really get me excited about what we’re doing. My biggest thing is just being consistent. Let’s continually be this team.”
The NBA record for most wins to start a season is 24 by Golden State to open the 2015-16 campaign.

2015 Cavaliers @ Toronto
Cavaliers @ Raptors NBA Odds Game Information and Opening Lines
Date/Time: Wednesday, November 25, 2015 7:30 PM ET Venue: Air Canada Centre Opening Lines: Cleveland -1.5 (-110), Toronto +1.5 (-110) (Live Stream Option) It took a little while for Cleveland (11-3) to get rolling last season, but LeBron and company are taking care of business early this year. A huge part of their early season success has been their play on home court, where they are a perfect 8-0. They have not really had their own way on the road, though, and a .500 record away from home suggests that this could be a very tricky little trip for them. As you might expect, the Cavaliers have been a pretty dominant offensive force so far this year, with LeBron leading the way in all the offensive team stats. More pleasing for the Cavaliers has to be the way they are playing in their own end, as their 97.1 points per game allowed has them sitting 6th overall in the league in that category. The Cavs are coming into this one on a 3-game winning streak, with all of those victories coming at home. They have lost their last 2 road games, and will be looking to snap that streak on Wednesday. The Raptors (9-6) looked like a team to fear through the first 5 games of the season, as they tore through everyone that stepped in their way. There has been a distinct cooling off period since then, though, including a pair of 3-game losing streaks. In fairness to the Raptors, they have been asked to play 11 of their opening 15 games on the road, and to be able to come away with a 6-5 record through that is not altogether awful. They have looked very good in the games that they have played on home court, and you feel that they will get into a groove as soon as they play an extended stretch of games in Toronto. Offensively, the Raptors are a little lower down the food chain than they would like to be, but they are right there with the Cavaliers in terms of points allowed per game.Key NBA Odds Betting Trends
- Cleveland is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games
- Cleveland is 10-2 SU in its last 12 games
- The total has gone OVER in 7 of Cleveland’s last 8 games
- Toronto is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games
- Toronto is 3-6 SU in its last 9 games
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Toronto’s last 5 games
Consider This Before Placing Your Bet
The Cavaliers took 3 of 4 from Toronto last season, including both regular season games played north of the border. I expect this to be a close one, but I do believe that Cleveland will come away with the win. The last 27 games between these two in Toronto has seen the UNDER come up 21 times.NBA Betting Center
