Writer’s ATS Picks for the NFL Week 5

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons -1.5

Thursday, October 3rd, 2024

The odds tell us all we must know about Atlanta versus Tampa Bay.

Home teams are often awarded 3 points but in this case, the Falcons are -1.5, which tells us the ATL is a tepid home favorite.

Tampa is playing terrific football.

The 3-1 Buccaneers’ only loss came to Denver, a rising team that has since beaten the Jets at the Meadowlands.

Baker and his mates get it done.

NFL Week 5 Pick: Tampa Bay +1.5

New York Jets at Minnesota Vikings -2.5

Sunday, October 6th, 2024

NFL betting fans are putting money behind the Jets in the belief Minnesota is due for a letdown.

For sure, the Vikings could be due for the letdown after a massive road win over the Packers in NFL Week 4.

But Minnesota has the edge with their defense.

The Vikings also have an edge on offense because Sam Darnold and Justin Jefferson are tearing it up and Kevin O’Connell is a fantastic strategist.

Back the home team to cash.

NFL Week 5 Pick: Minnesota -2.5

Cleveland Browns at Washington Commanders -3.5

Sunday, October 6th, 2024

The Browns will do their best to keep up with the top offense in the NFL based on stats.

Jayden Daniels, Brian Robinson Jr., Terry McLaurin and the rest are dominating defenses.

Cleveland’s D has played okay in spots but isn’t the fearsome 11 it was in 2023.

More alarming is the fact that Deshaun Watson has become mediocre at best, meaning Watson is a shell of the quarterback that had become one of the top five signal callers in the NFL when he played for Houston.

It’s tough seeing the Browns scoring enough to keep this to under a 4 points or higher loss.

NFL Week 5 Pick: Washington -3.5

Las Vegas Raiders at Denver Broncos -2.5

Sunday, October 6th, 2024

The Raiders aren’t a good football team.

Vegas has zero identity.

Almost as important for this game is the fact the Broncos’ boast one of the league’s top defenses.

Also, Sean Payton has simplified Denver’s offense so that Bo Nix is more comfortable and cuts down on Nix having to make spectacular Drew Brees-like plays.

The Broncos push their winning streak, which includes road wins against Tampa Bay and the Jets, to 3 and they do so by covering the spread.

NFL Week 5 Pick: Denver -2.5

Dallas Cowboys at Pittsburgh Steelers -1.5

Sunday, October 6th, 2024

The Cowboys don’t rush the ball well, which play right into Mike Tomlin’s hands.

Tomlin is going to sit back in a Cover 2 or maybe even Cover 3 because his front seven should handle the Cowboys’ young and inexperienced offensive line.

T.J. Ward is going to have a massive game.

Expect at least 2 sacks and maybe 4 to 6 against Dak Prescott.

Justin Fields looked great when rallying the Steelers to a play away from making a comeback in a close loss to the Colts in NFL Week 4.

Steelers win and cover.

NFL Week 5 Pick: Pittsburgh -1.5

Monday, Oct 7

New Orleans Saints at Kansas City Chiefs -5.5

Monday, October 7th, 2024

Without Rashee Rice, Patrick Mahomes, who has thrown 6 TDs and 4 INTs this season, is going to have some trouble versus a solid Saints’ defense.

Also, the Chiefs’ defense may find the going tough versus New Orleans’ offense which got back on track versus the Falcons in NFL Week 4.

KC is due for a letdown game after winning their first four in close contests.

The Saints can win this straight up.

So taking the 5.5 points is the play.

NFL Week 5 Pick: New Orleans +5.5

What are NFL ATS Picks? Let’s Find Out

NFL ATS (Against the Spread) Picks refer to betting predictions where the bettor wagers on whether a team will cover the point spread set by oddsmakers, rather than simply predicting which team will win.

The point spread is designed to even out the perceived skill gap between two teams, assigning a certain number of points that the favored team must win by for a bet to be successful.

For example, if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are -6.5 favorites over the Atlanta Falcons, an ATS pick for the Buccaneers means they must win by 7 or more points for the bet to win.

On the other hand, an ATS pick for the Falcons would win if they lose by 6 points or less, or win the game outright.

The spread makes betting more competitive, even if one team is expected to be significantly better.

Bettors enjoy ATS picks because they offer a more strategic way to engage with NFL games, especially when betting on evenly matched teams or identifying potential upsets.

Understanding ATS picks is crucial for serious bettors, as it reflects more nuanced game predictions than just wagering on straight-up winners.

2023-24 NFL | 104th season of the National Football League
NFL Week 5: Thursday, October 4th – Monday, October 10th, 2023

Buffalo Bills over Jacksonville Jaguars

ATS: Bills -5.5
Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 9:30 AM | NFL NET
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

The London game is early on Sunday. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are on the right track. After losing their opener, they have been running through opponents. Now they get a Jacksonville team that spent the week in London. That may not matter.

The Bills have revenge on their mind from the Jaguars beating them in a low-scoring affair a season ago. Look for Buffalo to continue playing great football with a win by a touchdown or more in this one over the Jaguars.

Detroit Lions over Carolina Panthers

ATS: Lions -9
Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 1:00 PM | FOX
Ford Field, Detroit, MI

The Carolina Panthers are winless through their first four games. That does not change anytime soon. The Lions are an impressive offensive team with an excellent defense. Bryce Young will have a tough time moving the football against the Lions. Detroit at home means a better and more solid game from Jared Goff.

Look for the Lions to drive the football via the pass and also on the ground and continually grow the lead all night. The Lions win this game by 10+ points on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles over Los Angeles Rams

ATS: Eagles -4.5
Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 4:05 PM | FOX
SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA

The Eagles and 49ers seem to be on a collision course again to meet in the NFC title game. While this is just Week Five, and there is a ton of football left to be played, the Eagles look good once again.

Philadelphia needed overtime, but it was evident who the better team was on Sunday. Jalen Hurts, the run game continues to gash defenses, and AJ Brown is emerging as a Top 5 receiver in the league.

Look for the Philadelphia defense to put a ton of pressure on Matthew Stafford and his young core of receivers.

Denver Broncos over New York Jets

ATS: Broncos -2.5
Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 8:15 PM | ABC, ESPN
Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA

We cannot call this a great game. But we can call this a competitive and exciting game. This is a game between a pair of one-win teams. But, better yet, it’s Sean Payton against Nathaniel Hackett: Payton, the new Broncos coach, against Hackett, the coach from last season. Payton has been on record for bashing the job Hackett did a season ago.

Denver is coming off a win over the Bears, while the Jets lost on Sunday Night to the Kansas City Chiefs. Denver has been horrific on defense, but the Jets have been pretty poor on offense. The Jets present a good defense. This will be interesting, but we will take the Broncos to win their second straight!

San Francisco 49ers over Dallas Cowboys | Sunday Night Football

SNF ATS: 49ers -3.5
Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 8:20 PM | NBC
Lambea

This could be the game of the year so far, and it’s just Week 5. The San Francisco 49ers and their high-powered offense will take on the Dallas Cowboys and their imposing defense.

Can the Cowboys slow Christian McCaffrey and his ability to gash through any defense he plays? Will the Cowboys have an answer for Brock Purdy? Can the 49ers avoid throwing the ball away and giving the Dallas defense some ammo for a big play?

These two teams have Super Bowl aspirations, and this is a potential playoff matchup. Look for a fun one on Sunday Night Football.

2022 NFL Against the Spread Betting Picks for the Top Games of Week 5

Previous Betting News

Over the last few seasons, there has been a lot of talk about the increased parity level in the NFL, which you have to say seems correct. Here we are, just 4 weeks into the season, and we only have 1 unbeaten team remaining. That would be the Philadelphia Eagles, who some might see as an unlikely lone perfect team, but that’s where we are. There is also only 1 winless team (Houston Texans). Yes, there is still a lot of football to be played, but this season already seems to be shaping up to be one where the playoff races will go right down to the wire. We head into Week 5 with a 17-9 record across all of our picks thus far, which includes being 6-3 ATS. It’s time to see if we can improve on both of those stats with some winning ATS picks for Week 5 of the NFL season. Let’s jump right into action so you can continue betting against the NFL Lines.

Week 5 ATS Betting Picks | 2022 National Football League Analysis

LA Chargers (-3) at Cleveland Browns

Both of these teams are coming into this week with 2-2 records, and while .500 is not the worst place to be, both are going to need to push on if they want to win a division or get into the playoffs. There is some concern about the health of Justin Herbert at QB for the Chargers, but he did lead his team to a win this past weekend despite reports of injured ribs. He should be even better this weekend in what is sure to be a tough road trip to Cleveland. The Chargers have not been great against the spread in recent visits to Cleveland, but they are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 overall, and I like them to win and cover here.

Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals (+5)

As we mentioned at the top of this piece, the Eagles come into Week 5 of the season as the only team with an unbeaten record. 4 wins does not a season make, so do not expect them to get too comfortable this early in the season. In fact, they had to dig out of a 0-14 hole against Jacksonville last weekend to keep that record intact. This is going to be a tough trip to face a Cardinals team that is 2-2 and in need of a win. In terms of the point spread, there is a lot to like about Arizona, with the most convincing trend being that they have covered the spread in each of the last 5 times that Philadelphia has come to town.

San Francisco 49ers (-6 ½) at Carolina Panthers

If you are not a fan of playing teams coming off a short week then you may want to skip this one. The 49ers are coming off a huge Monday night win over the LA Rams, and I have to say that I think they look like a good bet here, even though they do have to go on the road with a short turnaround. There is not a lot to like about Carolina at home, as they have covered just twice in their last 10 games on home turf. On the flipside, the 49ers have covered in 7 of their last 9 games overall.

NFL 2021 Regular Season – Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

We went into Week 4 of the season with 5 teams sitting on perfect records. After a wild weekend, that number is now down to 1, with the Arizona Cardinals the only team heading into Week 5 with an unblemished record. That alone should tell you just how unpredictable things have been through the opening month of the season. That unpredictability has played havoc with our selections in the early going. We have yet to hit any of our parlays this season in the NFL, although we have been killing it with our college picks, so hopefully you guys are cashing in on those. Let’s see if we can begin to right the ship this weekend, starting with our NFL Week 5 ATS picks. Let’s jump right into action so you can be all set to bet against the NFL odds.

Week 5 ATS Picks for the 2021 Season | NFL Betting

Green Bay Packers (-3 ½) at Cincinnati Bengals

We have seen a few dark horse teams emerge in the early part of the season, but that is something that is rather common. Maintaining that fast start over the course of a season is always tough, so it will be interesting to see what the 3-1 Cincinnati Bengals do this weekend when they play host to the Green Bay Packers. After losing in Week 1, the Packers have bounced back to win 3-straight, including a win over another AFC North team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, last weekend. The Packers covered in that one and are now 9-4 ATS in their last 13 versus the AFC North. They are also 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Bengals are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Sunday home games, but I think they are looking at a loss in this one.

New England Patriots (-9) at Houston Texans

When a team decides to roll the dice and start a rookie in the QB spot, they do so knowing that there are going to be some growing pains along the way. It is often unfair to compare these rookies side-by-side, as the talent they are surrounded by usually plays a large part in their success. Mac Jones has some nice pieces to work with in New England, while David Mills is only starting because of injury issues on a team that looks to be sinking like a stone. Jones put in a great display against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night, and while the Patriots lost, they loom to be heading in the right direction. They are 8-4 ATS in their last 12 versus Houston, while the Texans are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games played in October.

Chicago Bears at Las Vegas Raiders (-4 ½)

There are some very glaring issues with the Chicago Bears this season, yet they have still somehow managed to get out to a 2-2 start. The Raiders, on the other hand, have started very well, but they will be annoyed at losing to the Chargers on Monday night to lose their unbeaten record to start the season. The Bears have gone 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games versus the Raiders, but their recent form is not quite as good, as they are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games on the road. There really is not a lot to like when looking at the Raiders performance against the spread, but I think they are a much better team than the Bears, and I believe that they are more than capable of covering this spread.

2019 NFL Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

With the NFL season now a month old, we are down to just 3 teams sitting with a perfect record. The Patriots and Chiefs are at 4-0, while the 49ers, who had a bye in Week 4, are sitting at 3-0. This week will end of Monday night, with a pair of winless teams, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers, looking to break their goose egg. While we wait for that game to be decided, we can start to look ahead to NFL Week 5 and think about the picks that we might decide to play.

I am going to take a look at dome good ATS picks for Week 5 of the NFL season, but keep in mind that these NFL spreads might change as the week progresses.

2019 NFL Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Atlanta Falcons at Houston Texans (-5)

Make no mistake about it, the Atlanta Falcons are in trouble after losing to the Titans in Week 4 to fall to 1-3 on the season. To make matters worse, they are on the road this weekend against a non-conference foe, which is when things tend to get dramatically worse for Atlanta.

They are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games, but that stat pales in comparison to their 0-13 ATS run against teams from the AFC. The Texans are not that much better when you look at their ATS record, but it is that combination of awful stats for the Falcons that has me leaning the way of Houston this coming weekend.

New York Jets (+14) at Philadelphia Eagles

This is a point spread that you should be paying attention to as the week progresses, specifically because it looks as though Sam Darnold may be back in the fold for the Jets after sitting out with a bout of mono. You look at the tends with these two ATS and you see that the Eagles have totally dominated this series.

Given the numbers, I was very much on the fence about adding this one to the list, but it’s a shot worth taking right now, especially of Darnold does start. If he is out and the Jets are forced to roll with their 3rd string QB, perhaps revisit this one.

New England Patriots (-15) at Washington Redskins

We mentioned earlier that the Patriots were one of only 3 teams to be sitting with a perfect record, but that was almost very different, as they struggled to hang on versus the Buffalo Bills. Tom Brady was not at his best on Sunday, which usually means that we can expect a bounce back game from the GOAT.

The Patriots are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games, while also going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings with teams from the NFC. They are also 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games in Week 5 games, all of which adds up to the champions covering against a weak Commanders team.

Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs (-10)

The Chiefs are another of the unbeaten teams, but like the Patriots, they were made to work very hard in Week 4, outlasting the Lions for a 34-30 win. This was the first time this season that the Chiefs failed to cover the spread after comfortably covering in each of the opening 3 weeks.

The Chiefs are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games versus conference foes, although they are just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home meetings with Indianapolis, although it should be noted that most of those came when Andrew Luck was still playing. I like the Chiefs to bounce back in a big way this week.

Rest of the Week 5 Schedule

  • Los Angeles Rams vs Seattle Seahawks
  • Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Arizona Cardinals vs Cincinnati Bengals
  • Atlanta Falcons vs Houston Texans
  • Tampa Bay Buccanneers vs New Orleans Saints
  • Minnesota Vikings vs New York Giants
  • Chicago Bears vs Oakland Raiders
  • Jacksonville Jaguars vs Carolina Panthers
  • Denver Broncos vs Los Angeles Chargers
  • Green Bay Packers vs Dallas Cowboys
  • Cleveland Browns vs San Francisco 49ers

NFL Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

We are one month into the 2018 NFL season and we now have just 2 unbeaten teams left, although that could change if the Chiefs lose on the road to Denver on Monday night. It has been a rather strange opening month, with no clear favorite, other than the LA Rams, yet to emerge from the pack. In fact, some of the more favored teams – Steelers, Falcons, Eagles – are off to rather dodgy starts. We are going to look ahead to NFL Week 5 Odds so that we can start to make some picks. For this piece, we are focusing on the point spread, but we will also have SU and O/U picks, as well as some parlays to come in other pieces, so keep an eye open for those.

NFL Week 5 ATS Picks

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots (-10 ½)

What a difference a week can make in professional sports. Heading into Week 4, much of the talk was about the demise of the Patriots, but they put that talk to rest, at least for now, with a dominating 38-7 win over the unbeaten Miami Dolphins. The Colts will get Julian Edelman back from suspension this week, which will also help.

Rookie RB Sony Michel made an immediate impact after struggling with injuries, running for 112 yards in the win. The Colts come in with a 1-3 record and look as though they are playing it rather safe with Andrew Luck, who is rarely making deep throws. They are 4-7-1 ATS in their last 12 trips to New England, so I don’t see them covering the 10-point spread here.

Green Bay Packers (-1) at Detroit Lions

I must admit that I am a little surprised by the spread here. While I did not expect it to be huge, I did expect the Packers to at least be favored by 3 points in this one. Sure, the Packers have not been totally convincing to start the season and there is some concern about an injury to Aaron Rodgers, but he is playing through it and doing just fine.

The Lions are now 1-3 on the season after giving up a late TD to Dallas in Week 4, and while they have home field advantage here, they have only won 4 of their last 12 meetings with the Packers at Ford Field. I think the Packers win and cover here.

Baltimore Ravens (-2 ½) at Cleveland Browns

The Ravens secured a huge win on Sunday night, heading into Pittsburgh and putting on a solid defensive show to down the Steelers. Meanwhile, the Browns fell just short of winning back to back games for the first time since the caveman days, going down in OT on the road to the Oakland Raiders in a game they looked to have won before having a late first down overturned by video review.

The Raven D is as good as always, but they are also getting stellar work from Flacco and the offense, which is why I like them to win and cover here.

Latest NFL Week 5 Betting Trends

Minnesota Vikings (+3) at Philadelphia Eagles

These are two teams who were pegged as being Super Bowl favorites, yet both teams are off to rather rocky starts. Minnesota is just 1-2-1, while the defending champion Eagles are in at 2-2. It goes without saying that both teams need this game to get back on track and the bookies have it as being a close one, with the Eagles in as a 3-point favorite at home.

Since the Viking are just 1-8 SU and ATS in their last 9 visits to Philly, I am definitely going against the grain here, as I think the Vikings will cover or at least get a push.

ATS Betting Analysis & Picks for NFL Week 5

Previous Betting News

The Buffalo Bills have been an absolute revelation in the early going of the 2017 NFL regular season and will look to keep up their eye-opening play on NFL Week 5 when they visit a Cincinnati Bengals team that keeps on underachieving under head coach Marvin Lewis.

The Dallas Cowboys will look to put a patch on their porous pass defense before they host Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, while last but not least, the Los Angeles Rams will host the Seattle Seahawks in what is now one of the more intriguing matchups on the entire Week 5 docket.

Let’s get started with the analysis, but don’t forget to check the NFL betting lines throughout the entire week.

ATS Betting Analysis & Picks for NFL Week 5

Buffalo Bills (3-1) at Cincinnati Bengals (1-3)

When: Sunday, October 8, 2017, 1:00 PM ET
Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio
NFL Odds: Cincinnati -3
Total: 38.5

Analysis

It’s nice that Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals picked up a convincing 31-7 win over the Cleveland Browns this past weekend, but the Buffalo Bills are clearly the better team in this Week 5 pairing seeing as how to rank a phenomenal first in points allowed (13.5 ppg) and come into this contest off two stunning wins over legitimate Super Bowl contenders by taking down Denver 26-26 in Week 4 and stunning Atlanta 23-17 this past Sunday.

The Bills have the edge at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor being better than Dalton and surely at head coach where Sean McDermott is clearly inspiring his team more than longtime Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis.

I’m expecting the Bills to use their stout defense to force Andy Dalton to be forced into at least one costly turnover and likely two. The Bills are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win while Cincinnati is just 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record. The Bills get the outright ‘upset’ win, but really, this won’t be an upset at all.

NFL Betting Pick: Buffalo +3

Green Bay Packers (3-1) at Dallas Cowboys (2-2)

When: Sunday, October 8, 2017, 4:25 PM ET
Where: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas
NFL Odds: Dallas -2
Total: 52.5

Analysis

The Dallas Cowboys have a pass defense that is absolutely mediocre at its very best and the prize waiting for them inside their Cracker Jack Box this week is a date with arguably the best quarterback in the game today – Green Bay Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers.

I know that second-year stars Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are the foundation for a Dallas offense that is pretty good, but again, Dallas’ defense looks a lot like Swiss cheese when it comes to stopping the pass as they showed in their 35-30 loss on Sunday as Jared Goff and the Los Angeles ramRamsis past weekend.

Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to an emphatic 35-14 win over longtime NFC North division rival Chicago on Thursday night, not to mention the fact that the Packers have won six of the last seven meetings against Dallas, including last season’s 34-31 divisional round playoff win.

Green Bay is 9-3 ATS in their last dozen games following an SU win and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. Conversely, Dallas is just 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games against a team with a winning road record.

NFL Betting Pick: Green Bay +2.5

Seattle Seahawks (2-2) at L.A. Rams (3-1)

When: Sunday, October 8, 2017, 4:05 PM ET
Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California
NFL Odds: L.A. Rams -2.5
Total: 47

Analysis

The Los Angeles Rams have been transformed better than Optimus Prime by the hiring of head coach Sean McVay!

After floundering under former head coach Jeff Fisher for years, the Rams are now an offensive monster that is ranked first in the league in scoring at a whopping 35.5 points per game. Despite pounding Indianapolis senseless in their 46-18 win this past Sunday, I remain skeptical at best about Russell Wilson and Seattle at this point.

Nevertheless, I’m going to urge you to back the more experienced Seahawks to get the outright road win in this Week 5 NFC West divisional matchup by harassing Jared Goff and the suddenly high-scoring Rams while getting their second straight impressive outing from their own offense after lighting up the Colts this past weekend. Despite their high-scoring ways, Los Angeles is giving up a generous 26.2 points per game defensively to rank 28th in points allowed. While the majority of key ATS trends surrounding this matchup points to an ATS cover by the Rams, I’m going to pick Seattle simply because I sense they’re desperate!

NFL Betting Pick: Seattle Seahawks +2.5

2016 Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Previous Betting News

If you’re fired up about the quickly approaching 2016 NFL betting season and you’re in need of some early online against the spread betting picks, then you’re in for a real treat as I offer up an expert prediction for every matchup on the Week 5 schedule. Okay, let’s get started.

Taking a Closer Look at the 2016 Week 5 ATS Betting Picks

Thursday, October 6, 2016

Arizona Cardinals at San Francisco 49ers (+6)

I like Carson Palmer and the Cardinals for the road win, but I like Chip Kelly’s explosive offensive system to help the Niners narrowly cover the NFL betting line.

Sunday, October 9, 2016

New England Patriots at Cleveland Browns (+7)

The Browns are going down, like really, really hard in Tom Brady’s 2016 debut!

Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions (-1)

Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions win and easily cover the spread at home against the rebuilding Birds.

Chicago Bears at Indianapolis Colts (-3.5)

Andrew Luck and the Colts are the pick to get the home win and narrowly cover the spread against Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears.

Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins (-5.5)

While I expect Miami to get the home win in this Week 5 matchup, I like Tennessee to get the ATS cover since the Titans have the better quarterback in this AFC clash.

Washington Redskins at Baltimore Ravens (-2.5)

I’m going with Joe Flacco and the Ravens to get the home win and ATS cover over a Redskins team that I don’t think is going to be much better than a .500 team in 2016.

Houston Texans at Minnesota Vikings (-6)

I like Minnesota to get the win in this Week 5 matchup, but I’m going with the Houston Texans to cover the spread in a defensive battle.

New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers (-6)

The Steelers will finally have running back Le’Veon Bell back on the field, but with Ryan Fitzpatrick back and a great defense, I like the Jets to narrowly cover the spread.

Atlanta Falcons at Denver Broncos (-6.5)

I smell an upset brewing in this Week 5 Inter-conference matchup. The Falcons went 5-2 ATS as a dog last season and will have the edge at quarterback in this matchup.

Cincinnati Bengals at Dallas Cowboys (PK)

The Cowboys may be playing at home, but the Bengals have the edge at head coach, quarterback and defense. Cincy wins outright!

Buffalo Bills at Los Angeles Rams (-1)

This a matchup that Buffalo should win on the road, but one they won’t mostly because Rex Ryan team underachieve at the most inexplicable time.

San Diego Chargers at Oakland Raiders (-4.5)

Derek Carr and the Raiders are the pick to get the win at home against their AFC West division rivals, but I don’t like the 4.5-point spread and believe Philip Rivers and the Bolts will cover for the third straight meeting.

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers (-8)

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will win this Week 5 NFC matchup, but Green Bay isn’t a defensive juggernaut, leading me to believe Eli Manning and the G-Men will find a way to cover the high spread.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers (-10)

The Panthers pounded the Bucs by at least 14 points in both regular season meetings a year ago and will do so again in 2016.

It’s time for our early NFL ATS picks. Here are the bold NFL betting picks that are highly likely to offer you the best value in the against the spread.

Week 5 Against The Spread NFL Betting Picks

New England Patriots (-7) at Cleveland Browns

Week 5 NFL ATS Pick: Patriots (-7)

If Tom Brady four-game suspension stands, this Week 5 game will most likely mark his return, and that means peril for the rebuilding Browns. I mean, the Pats are 5-1 against Cleveland since Brady became the starting QB in New England and most of those wins have come by more than a touchdown. The 7-point spread in this clash should thus be very coverable for the New England Patriots who are unquestionably more talented and proven than Cleveland in nearly every phase of the game.

New York Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers (-6)

Week 5 NFL ATS Pick: Steelers (-6)

Even without considering the obvious fact that Pittsburgh has sufficient depth and is a team that is better-prepared for the upcoming season than the Jets, I’d easily pick the Steelers for the win and cover in this game because of Pittsburgh’s solid history against the New Yorkers. The Steelers are impressively 19-5 in their all-time 24 meetings against New York, including a 3-1 record in their last 4 meetings. With New York still having a number of issues to sort out in the offseason, my expectation is that the Steelers—who have pretty much everything figured out ahead of the new season—will not only deliver the SU, but also claim the ATS victory when the two teams meet for this clash.

New York Giants at Green Bay Packers (-8)

Week 5 NFL ATS Pick: Giants (+8)

In spite of Green Bay being arguably the better team over the recent seasons, the Giants have won three of their last four games against Green Bay at the Lambeau Field and the last three straight against Packers. With that in mind, along with the fact that the Giants have one of the most improved teams (on paper) from a number of revitalizing investments in the offseason; the point spread in this game looks a tad too high for Green Bay to cover. I don’t expect Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to lose this game straight up, but the Giants should at least be able to cover the spread if Eli Manning and his teammates play as strongly as they’ve been doing in their recent meetings against Green Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers (-10)

Week 5 NFL ATS Pick: Panthers (-10)

Stretching back to 2014 season, the Panthers own a 12-game winning streak at the Bank of America Stadium, along with a solid 8-4 ATS mark. This includes an 8-0 SU record and 6-2 ATS mark from 2015; a strong testament to Carolina’s strength when playing at home. This should be a big boost for reigning MVP Cam Newton and the surging Panthers, who boast of a superior offense and defense compared to Tampa Bay, to take care of the Buccaneers by double digits in this Monday Night Football Week 5 fixture.
