The Pats visited Las Vegas in Week 15 last year and lost in epic fashion, 30-24. On the final play of regulation with the game tied, Pats RB Rhamondre Stevenson took a handoff, found running room and gained 23 yards. Then he went off-script, flipping the ball back to Jakobi Meyers, who tried to keep the play alive by tossing the ball across the field — where Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones was waiting to return it 48 yards for the winning TD. It was one of the most unlikely endings ever. The Raiders led 17-3 at halftime before allowing the Patriots to score 21 straight points. Las Vegas scored two touchdowns in the final 32 seconds. The Patriots hold an 18-15-1 lead in the regular season against the Raiders.
Why Bet on New England?
Well, the Pats can’t play any worse than the past two weeks, losing 38-3 in Dallas in Week 4 and 34-0 at home to New Orleans this past Sunday. The Saints outgained the Patriots 304-156. It was the second worst shutout loss in team history for New England, trailing only a 52-0 drubbing in Miami against the undefeated Dolphins in 1972. It also drops the Patriots to 1-4 for the first time since 2000, Coach Bill Belichick’s first season in New England. He remains a win short of joining Hall of Famers Don Shula and George Halas as the only coaches in NFL history with 300 regular-season victories.
QB Mac Jones has been brutal the past two games and pulled in each, but Belichick confirmed Wednesday that Jones remains the Patriots’ starting quarterback: “Yeah, we’re not making any changes.” Backup Bailey Zappe hasn’t impressed in mop-up duty the past two weeks.
Jones has been one of the NFL’s worst QBs this season, with 1,008 passing yards (22nd in the NFL), five touchdown passes and six interceptions through five games for an abysmal 74.2 passer rating (31st). But he’s being hamstrung by a subpar offensive line and one of the least explosive collections of skill players in the league.
One weapon Jones doesn’t have at his disposal this year is wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Raiders after catching 67 passes for 804 yards and six touchdowns for New England last year. The Patriots replaced him with JuJu Smith-Schuster, signing him to a similar three-year deal. The veteran has 14 catches for 86 yards and zero touchdowns.
Fellow WR Tyquan Thornton (shoulder) has been designated for return from injured reserve. The team now has a 21-day window in which to evaluate him for a potential return to the active roster. It’s possible that Thornton plays this Sunday. Smith-Shuster (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday. Neither did rookie WR Demario Davis.
Top running back Rhamondre Stevenson in particular has been stuck in neutral in all five games, averaging just 2.8 yards per carry on the season. Ezekiel Elliott (3.8) hasn’t been much better, and the tandem has been victimized by some uneven play up front.
Belichick has won at least one game in 50 different stadiums, including the postseason. The only two current stadiums where he hasn’t recorded a win are Allegiant Stadium and U.S. Bank Stadium.

Why Bet on Las Vegas?
The Raiders got QB Jimmy Garoppolo back MNF from a one-game concussion absence and beat Green Bay 17-13. Garoppolo completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 208 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He played well considering his best weapon, Davante Adams (shoulder), wasn’t at full strength Monday. Of course, Jimmy G started his career in New England. Adams drew only four targets against his former team Monday, though he caught all four (for 45 yards). Adams didn’t practice Wednesday but is expected to go Sunday.
“Not great, but it’s good enough to get through it,” Adams said of the shoulder. “It’s better than a week ago. “I’m going to be playing. But, I mean, it’s got to take time to heal, but I’ll be out there.”
Fellow WR Jakobi Meyers was limited Wednesday. He caught 7-of-10 targets for 75 yards and a touchdown vs. Green Bay. Meyers has totaled 3,032 receiving yards since joining the league in 2019. He is just the 13th undrafted player in NFL history to reach 3,000+ receiving yards within 64 career games.
Josh Jacobs rushed 20 times for 69 yards and a touchdown while catching all five of his targets for 20 yards in Monday’s win. Jacobs reached 25 combined touches for the second week in a row, resulting in consecutive games with trips to the end zone but the 2022 NFL rushing king has yet to average four yards per carry in any game so far.
End Maxx Crosby was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after his dominant Week 5 performance against the Packers. The edge rusher finished the day with five total tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack on Jordan Love. His four tackles for loss tied his career-high of TFLs in a single game and were the most of any player from Week 5. It was Crosby’s fourth time in his career being named AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Linebacker Robert Spillane had only one career interception since joining the league but walked off the field with two Monday. He became the first player in Raiders history to log at least nine tackles and two interceptions in a single game.
Sunday’s game will mark the third time as a head coach that Josh McDaniels has gone up against his mentor, Bill Belichick. The Raiders head coach is 2-0 against Belichick – a 20-17 overtime win with the Broncos on Oct. 11 2009 and a 30-24 win with the Raiders on Dec. 18, 2022.
