We haven’t played a full month of NFL games and already some coaches are feeling the heat. Carolina’s Matt Rhule, New Orleans’ Dennis Allen, and Arizona’s Kliff Kingsbury may want to get their resumes together. Also, injuries have already had a major impact. See below for NFL Betting rumors regarding coaching hot seats as well as injury impacts.

Carolina’s Rhule the chalk to be the first head coach to get his walking papers
The Panthers beat the New Orleans Saints 22-14 on Sunday, but the smart money says it wasn’t enough for Carolina coach Matt Rhule to save his job. Rhule remains the chalk to be the first head coach out the door.
In a lot of ways, the Panthers firing Rhule before NFL Week 5 makes sense. The former Temple and Baylor head coach went to Carolina with big expectations. Rhule appeared to be the right man for the job.
He especially appeared to be the right person when Carolina started last season going 3-0. But the Panthers bombed the rest of the way.
Not only that, but Rhule made the decision to acquire Sam Darnold. That didn’t work out. Baker Mayfield got the win against New Orleans, but Mayfield underperformed versus both the Browns and Giants in his first 2 games.
It’s a matter of time before Carolina goes in a different direction. Rhule figures to get his walking papers before any other head coach this season.
Kliff Kingsbury and Dennis Allen could be gone before midseason
Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Saints HC Dennis Allen may be gone before midseason.
Kingsbury’s problem could have everything to do with, well, himself. Kingsbury called bad play after bad play in the loss to the Rams. It was especially telling on a third and 2 on Arizona’s first possession. Instead of running the ball, or calling for a higher percentage pass, Kingsbury called for a fade type of throw against the Rams’ top cover corner.
Dennis Allen, the Saints head coach, also has nobody to blame but himself. But in Allen’s case, he has a longer rope.
Allen said he doesn’t plan on sitting Jameis Winston even though Jameis is injured and has thrown 5 interceptions and has gotten sacked 11 times. Allen said it’s not Jameis’ fault
All of it isn’t Winston’s fault, but Allen isn’t making the right decision for the team. If Jameis can’t be effective, then why is he in the game?
It’s also not a great thing for Jameis. Winston is a free agent in 2024. The Saints could cut Winston next season and save $7 million.
Setting Jameis up to fail, and there’s no way he can play better if he doesn’t allow himself to heal, isn’t cool. Allen may be thinking he’s doing the right thing, but Jameis isn’t playing well enough to make the case to be a starter anywhere else.
In any case, being stubborn has cost more than one head coach his job. For Allen, who already failed as the HC for the Raiders about a decade ago, his stubbornness may have cost the Saints a 3-0 start.
Los Angeles Chargers suffer a major injury in loss to the Jaguars
Dallas quarterback Cooper Rush is one of the best backups in the league. So losing Dak Prescott for the next 4 to 6 weeks isn’t devastating.
The Steelers losing the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in TJ Ward isn’t devastating, either. Pittsburgh is deep at the DE position and Mike Tomlin knows how to put his players into the best position to succeed.
So although Dallas and Pittsburgh suffered injuries to significant players, both the Cowboys and Steelers are in a much better position than the Chargers.
On Sunday, not only did the Jacksonville Jaguars dominate the Bolts but Los Angeles lost Rashawn Slater for the season. Slater’s loss will have the most impact on his team of any injury to any other player so far this season.
The Bolts are going to have to dig deep to overcome the injury to their left tackle. We will see what happens, but Slater’s injury could make it difficult for the Chargers to consistently win.
Other injuries that could affect week 4 games
Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is listed as questionable heading into the week. That’s bad news for a New England squad that is 1-2 and faces the 2-1 Green Bay Packers in NFL Week 4.
Buffalo lost starting safety Micah Hyde before the loss to Miami on Sunday. Without Hyde, the Bills’ defense shouldn’t be nearly as formidable. The Bills face a high-scoring Baltimore Ravens squad on Sunday.
New Orleans lost guard Andrus Peat to a concussion in the loss to the Panthers. Wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Michael Thomas also left and didn’t return. The Saints play a tough Vikings team in London on Sunday.
When you go to handicap NFL Week 4, keep the injuries listed above on your radar. Playing against the Pats, Bills, and Saints might be the wise move this week.
