The Miami Heat are playing their best basketball of the season and they have no right losing at home on Tuesday night to the struggling Detroit Pistons, who are the worst team in the NBA. The Heat are heavy favorites on the NBA odds.

Pistons vs Heat Season Series
Tuesday is the second of four regular-season meetings between the teams. They opened the season against one another on Oct. 25 in Miami and the Heat escaped 103-102. The Heat led by 19 with 9:07 left, went scoreless in the final 2:57 and survived when a 30-footer by Detroit’s Cade Cunningham missed as time expired. Bam Adebayo scored 22 points and Jimmy Butler finished with 19 points for Miami. Cunningham had 30 points and nine assists for the Pistons. Jalen Duren had 17 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four blocks. Miami has won three straight vs. Detroit and eight of the past 10. The Heat lead the all-time series against Detroit, 68-57, and have won eight of the last 10.
Why Bet on Detroit Pistons?
Detroit lost for the eighth time in nine games Sunday, 113-91 in Orlando, which led 59-50 after a first half in which Markelle Fultz scored 10 straight Magic points over a four-minute stretch. Paolo Banchero scored 11 points during a 20-3 run that expanded the lead to 26 points early in the second half. The Magic shot 59.7% to Detroit’s 38.4% and had a 48-28 rebounding advantage.

“We’ve played against physical teams all year and we’ve handled it better than we did tonight,” Pistons coach Monty Williams said. “To their credit, their defense was really physical. Did we get fouled some? Yeah, but the physical teams that are consistently putting forth that identity typically get the benefit of the doubt. So I didn’t think we handled that well at all. We spent too much time talking to the referees.”
Cade Cunningham played just 23 minutes in the blowout loss and had nine points and seven assists. Only one of the Pistons’ five starters exceeded 30 minutes on Sunday in Ausar Thompson. Cunningham’s 23 minutes are the fewest he’s played in a game since January 7 against Denver, and that was a game he exited prematurely due to injury. No Pistons starter had more than 11 points.
Evan Fournier provided a season-high 17 points off the bench. The 26 minutes tied the highest workload he’s seen so far since joining the Pistons, and he’s scored in double digits five times in eight games for his new club while shooting 40.6 percent (13-for-32) from beyond the arc. Simon Fontecchio chipped in 15 points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench. The 28-year-old forward lost his starting spot a few games ago when Isaiah Stewart returned to the lineup, but Fontecchio has stayed productive. He’s averaging 14.2 points for his new team while shooting 41.5 percent from long distance.
Thompson ranks second in steals and fourth in blocked shots among NBA rookies. His 63 steals ranks behind only Victor Wembanyama’s 71 and his 55 blocks trails only rim-protecting centers Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren and Derrick Lively. Thompson ranks third among NBA rookies with 384 rebounds and first with 123 offensive rebounds.
Williams has begun to stagger the minutes of Cunningham and guard Jaden Ivey to get away from heavy all-bench minutes. Marcus Sasser returned to the lineup ahead of schedule on Sunday after missing four games with a minor knee injury. There will be further experimentation over the season’s final six weeks, including getting long glimpses of newcomers Fontecchio and Quentin Grimes as mainstays of the second unit. Grimes missed Sunday’s game with a knee injury.
The Pistons are shooting .390 from deep since the All-Star break, the ninth highest in the NBA in that span, which comes after ranking 21st in the league with a .360 percentage % prior to the break.
Detroit’s Jalen Duren has turned in consecutive 14-rebound double-doubles against the Heat, averaging 18.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in that span. Stewart has logged two straight double-doubles against Miami, averaging 12.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Why Bet on Miami Heat?
Miami comes off a 126-120 home win over Utah on Saturday. The Heat were again without Tyler Herro, who missed his fourth consecutive game; the knee issue that had kept him out is no longer a factor, but now he is sidelined with right foot tendonitis. Kevin Love was also out with a bruised right heel. Both are iffy for Tuesday.

Jimmy Butler had a season-high 37 points to go with seven assists and three rebounds. He has now tallied at least 20 points in four straight games. Butler was 3 for 3 on 3-pointers and had a steal, extending his streak of having at least one 3-pointer and one steal to 13 consecutive games — the fourth-longest streak in the NBA this season and tying Tim Hardaway for the second-longest such streak in Heat history. Rafer Alston had a 15-game run for Miami in March 2004. Butler also has currently made at least one three-point field goal in 14-straight games, the longest streak of his career. He is currently shooting a career-high 45.7 percent (43-of-94) from downtown this season.
Center Bam Adebayo exited the game at one point in the third quarter to get an apparent hip injury checked out, but he was able to return to the contest and wasn’t overly affected from a minutes standpoint. Adebayo finished with 23 points and seven rebounds. The veteran center has suited up in 34 consecutive games for Miami, averaging 19.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists over that stretch while shooting 51.4 percent from the field. Adebayo is just one double-figure scoring game short from tying Chris Bosh (351) for fourth place on Miami’s all-time list.
Caleb Martin provided a boost off the bench with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Martin came off the bench for a third straight game, with Nikola Jovic once again getting the starting nod at power forward. Despite the demotion, Martin has been productive as a reserve. Over the last three games, he is averaging 13 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting over 50% from the floor in each game. Terry Rozier III has shot 94.6 percent (35-of-37) from the foul line since joining Miami via trade from Charlotte.
Miami is allowing just 109.9 points per game this season, the sixth-least in the NBA, and has held opponents to under their season scoring averages by an average of -12.9 points per game over their last 13 contests. The Heat are 9-0 when holding opponents to under 100 points this season.
For Tuesday, Butler has averaged 19.2 points, 7.2 assists and 6.5 rebounds in six games against the Pistons with Miami. He has recorded 44 steals in 29 career games against the Pistons, the seventh-most by any active player against Detroit. Adebayo has scored at least 15 points in nine consecutive games against the Pistons, averaging 20.9 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists with four double-doubles in that span. Herro has scored at least 16 points in all eight career games against Detroit, averaging 24.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists on .396 3PT%.
