We are getting something a little different at the start of this NBA year, with the In-Season Tournament taking place as part of the regular season. It is a fun way to start a year, especially since things don’t generally tend to heat up in a big way until the second half of the season, which is when the playoff battles really kick into high gear. This new format makes the games have a little more meaning in the early going, but since the game also counts toward the regular season standings, they are all important in their own right.
The next batch of tournament games are scheduled for Tuesday, but we have games to focus on all week, so let’s take a look at the game and the betting odds for each.

LA Lakers at Philadelphia 76ers – Monday
It’s a bit of a quiet schedule on Monday night, but we do still have a couple of good matchups to look forward to, with this one at the top of the list for me. The Lakers are coming to life after a bit of a slow start and are now on a run that has seen them win 7 of their last 10 games. They are, though, just 3-5 on the road and will have a tough time against the Heat Sixers, who have won 6 of 9 in their own building in the early going.

Milwaukee Bucks at Miami Heat – Tuesday
This is one of the tournament games that we were talking about at the top of this piece, and it’s a good one. The Bucks appear to finally be rounding into the form that we expected from them this year, winning 7 of their last 10 to move to 12-5 overall. The Heat have cooled off just a little, losing 2 in a row to fall to 10-7, which has them down in the #6 spot in the Eastern Conference. Miami is a solid 4-1 on home court, so they are going to be a tough out.

Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets – Wednesday
We have a pair of teams going in opposite directions meeting up on Wednesday night, The Nuggets have been unable to maintain their fast start, going just 5-5 over their last 10 games, a run which has dropped them down to the #4 seed in the West. The Rockets are moving in the right direction, though, winning 2 in a row and 7 of their last 10 to move 2 games above .500 and that much closer to the top 6.

Charlotte Hornets at Brooklyn Nets – Thursday
It’s pretty much slim pickings on Thursday night, as there are not really any big matchups on tap. That said, this one interests me, as I am waiting to see if the Nets can continue their current upward trend after ending last week with back-to-back wins to get to .500 this season. They should be able to take advantage of the slumping Hornets, who have just 3 wins in their last 10 games, especially when you consider that Brooklyn has a winning record in their own building. Not the most glamorous matchup, but an interesting one just the same.
