With just under 30 games remaining in the regular season and the trade deadline looming, teams are starting to gear up for a playoff run.
In looking at this weekend’s schedule, our betting eye has caught a couple of matchups that we like for the NHL Betting public. Let’s take a brief look at each of those two contests.
NHL Betting | Top Must Bet Games On Friday, Mar. 11th and Sunday, Mar. 12th
Las Vegas Golden Knights @ Pittsburgh Penguins – Friday, March 11th
Two teams headed for the playoffs will square off on Friday night as the Penguins will host the Golden Knights. The Knights are currently in third place in the Pacific Division, while the Penguins are tied for second in the Metropolitan Division.
The Knights are the 13th-ranked offensive team in the NHL, while they’re ranked 16th on defense. The Penguins rank 12th on offense, while they have one of the league’s better defensive units, as they’re the 7th best defense in the NHL.
In looking at the betting numbers, the Golden Knights are 25-33 against the spread this season. In road games, they’re 14-12 against the spread. The Penguins are 28-30 against the spread on the season.
Las Vegas comes into this one on the struggle bus. Even though the Penguins haven’t been lighting the net on fire, as they’re 5-4-1 in their last 10, we think that being at home will be a big advantage for them on Friday night. We are going to go with Pittsburgh to win this one.
However, we don’t think they’ll cover the spread of 1.5, as we’re going with the Penguins to win 3-2. If you want to get risky, we’re also going to go with the under. As of now, the goal total is set at 6.
Tampa Bay Lightning @ Edmonton Oilers – Saturday, March 12th
The last time the Tampa Bay Lightning played the Edmonton Oilers in Rogers Place was in 2018. The Lightning didn’t play the Oilers at their home in 2019, 2020, or 2021.
In September of 2020, Tampa Bay did play in Rogers Place. On that night, Tampa Bay hoisted the Stanley Cup as they beat the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of their series.
So for the first time in over three years, the Oilers will host the Lightning on Saturday night. Both of these teams are locks for the playoffs. The Lightning are currently in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Florida Panthers.
The Oilers are in fourth place in the Pacific Division. The Edmonton Oilers can score, but their defense has been rather suspect this season. They only have a +3 goal differential, and hosting a powerful offense like Tampa Bay’s could give them some problems.
On the other end of the ice, Tampa Bay’s defense has been stellar this season. They’ve only allowed 162 goals this season. The Lightning is 7-3 in their last 10.
We like Tampa Bay in this one, and we could see a lot of goals scored as well. As long as the number isn’t too high, we could see the goal total hitting the over.
