After the Super Bowl on February 12, the NFL will go almost seven months without another meaningful game. But thanks to the spectacle that is the annual NFL Draft, wagering on football doesn’t need to stop.

Number 1 Draft Pick

The NFL Draft naturally starts with the first overall pick, and that is where most of the betting begins as well. The Chicago Bears currently have the top pick, and they will either use it to build around their young quarterback, Justin Fields, or they will trade it to a team in need of a new young quarterback.

Most oddsmakers think a trade is what will happen, with the two favorites to go No. 1 both playing quarterback. Three of the top five realistic possibilities are all quarterbacks.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is the favorite, and after his performance in the Sugar Bowl, it’s easy to see why. If the Bears keep the pick, they can’t do much better than Jalen Carter, a two-time National Championship-winning defensive tackle from Georgia.

Second, Third, Fourth Picks, Etc.

This far away from the draft, the only posted odds at the moment are for the first overall pick. But as we get closer to April 27th and the first round of the draft, there will be posted odds and the ability to bet on a number of the specific picks in the draft.

When the top pick in the draft is an obvious choice, as it was with Trevor Lawrence in 2021, picking the No. 2 overall pick is where you can start making money. And the further down the line the top-five gets, generally the greater the odds and the bigger the payout.

Top Pick at Each Position

Matching players to teams can be challenging, but ranking players at specific positions can come with more certainty. So if this is how you would like to wager, you can. There will be available bets on who will be the first player taken at each position.

The top quarterback, top wide receiver, the first offensive tackle selected – all will be bets that have odds as we get closer to the NFL Draft.

Players Drafted by Position, School, and Conference

We know that there will be more cornerbacks taken in the draft than quarterbacks. But just how many corners will be selected by the 32 teams? You can bet on that.

It’s a great source of pride for Notre Dame that they have the most NFL Draft picks in history. Even more so because the college in second place is USC, just three picks behind them. If you want to bet on which college team will have the most players selected in this year’s draft, you can. Georgia led all schools in 2022 with 15 players drafted.

Not surprisingly, the SEC had 65 players drafted in 2022, easily beating the second-place Big Ten, who had 48. Betting on which conference has the most picks will be very popular come draft day.

Colts trade for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens, for sure, would accept Indy’s fourth-pick in the first round this year. If Indianapolis were to sign Jackson, they’d become a co-favorite along with Jacksonville to win the AFC South.

The Colts’ Super Bowl odds would also significantly fall. Baltimore’s odds to win the Lombardi Trophy would rise big time. The Ravens don’t have much of an offense outside of Lamar.

The New York Jets make a trade for Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers

What’s going on in New York? The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers supposedly had a deal in place to send Aaron Rodgers to NYJ in exchange for a boatload of draft picks.

The deal should show go through. When it does, the Jets will be a Super Bowl contender. Yes, it sounds crazy to say it.

Green Bay’s odds will drift past Detroit’s, the Saints’, and Giants’ to win the big game. The Packers have talent. But without the greatest quarterback in the franchise’s history at the helm, it will be tough to even make the playoffs.

Buffalo trades for Arizona wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins

Buffalo’s odds could leapfrog Kansas City’s and Cincinnati’s were they to make a play for Zona wideout DeAndre Hopkins. Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen requires a wide receiver he can throw the ball to who can win one-on-one matchups.

Stefon Diggs should be that guy. He is, for the most part, but his high-flying skills aren’t on par with DeAndre’s. No wide receiver in the league can leap like Hopkins.

The Cardinals’ Super Bowl odds are meaningless. The team requires a lot to become a contender again. So no matter the draft haul, it won’t lead to the Valley becoming a Super Bowl contender.

Green Bay uses one or two of the draft picks they got from the Jets to trade for Rams QB Matthew Stafford

Did we write the Packers wouldn’t be Super Bowl contenders? We might be wrong.

If they pull off a trade for Rams starter Matthew Stafford and Staff is one-hundred percent healthy, Green Bay’s Super Bowl odds would rise but they wouldn’t rise as much. First, the chances of a trade for Staff happening is better than many think.

Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur knows how to work with veteran quarterbacks. He has ties to the Rams organization and Green Bay, like Indy, is in win now mode.

The Chicago Bears “earned” the top pick in the 2022 NFL season but never expected to keep it because they already have a good young quarterback in place in Justin Fields.

2023 NFL Draft News: CJ Stroud Now Favored As Top Overall Pick To Panthers

Second-year GM Ryan Poles apparently wanted to get a trade for that pick done ahead of free agency this week and on Friday he sent it to the Carolina Panthers for receiver DJ Moore, Carolina’s first-round selection at No. 9, a late-second-round pick (No. 61), a 2024 first-round selection and a 2025 second-round pick.

Now Poles doesn’t have to chase a receiver in free agency or perhaps early in the draft. The 25-year-old Moore is under contract through the 2024 season. He was drafted with the No. 24 pick in the 2018 draft and has three seasons recording over 1,000 yards receiving and 21 total touchdowns over his career.

Better yet, he fits in with Fields’ arm strength. He’s a deep ball receiver with a respectable frame (6 feet, 210 pounds). Moore has 172 targets 10-19 yards downfield from 2019-22, the second-most in the NFL in that category. Fields led the NFL with a 66.7% completion percentage on throws 10-19 yards downfield this past season.

No question the Panthers traded up to select a quarterback and it will be the third time the Panthers have had the top pick. They had it in their first season, 1995, but traded it to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 5 pick and No. 36 in the second round. They selected quarterback Kerry Collins at No. 5. They also had the top pick in 2011 and selected Auburn’s Cam Newton, who went on to win the 2015 MVP and lead Carolina to the Super Bowl.

Ohio State’s CJ Stroud is the new -250 favorite on the NFL odds to go first, and he’s probably the most pro-ready of the four quarterbacks who have a shot to go No. 1 along with Alabama’s Bryce Young (+200), Florida’s Anthony Richardson (+350) and Kentucky’s Will Levis (+2500). Stroud was the first two-time Heisman Trophy finalist in school history. He was a two-time Big Ten offensive player of the year and quarterback of the year Stroud was also named Big Ten freshman of the year for a total of five Big Ten individual awards to tie for second all-time in conference history with Fields and Orlando Pace and behind only Braxton Miller’s seven.

New Panthers head coach Frank Reich employed larger quarterbacks like Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan, and Carson Wentz during his time with the Indianapolis Colts and Stroud has ideal size at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He also had one of the best throwing sessions in recent NFL combine history. Longtime Panthers beat writer Joseph Person reported Friday that “the sense around the league” was the Panthers were targeting Stroud with their trade up.

Stroud had a career passer rating of 139.2 with a clean pocket versus 83.2 without at Ohio state. Against CFB’s best defense in Georgia he silenced the doubters with 348 yards passing and 4 TDs in this past season’s epic College Football Playoff semifinal loss. He this past season having completed 69.3 percent of his attempts for 3,688 yards, 41 touchdowns and six interceptions.

However, Reich had this to say during his media availability at the combine regarding Young. “Highly intelligent, very fast processor, very poised, accurate passer, playmaker, and he checks a lot of boxes.”

If Stroud is selected in the top two overall picks, he’ll become Ohio State’s highest-ever draft pick at the quarterback position, surpassing 1982 No. 4 overall pick Art Schlichter. He would become Ohio State’s seventh top-two overall pick and could become the fourth No. 1 overall pick in program history. The last was offensive lineman Orlando Pace in 1997. The Panthers passed on another Ohio State quarterback two years ago, taking cornerback Jaycee Horn at No. 8 when Fields was available. He went 11th to Chicago.

If Young were 6-foot-4, he’d probably be the pick. But he’s 5-foot-10, and although he weighed in at over 200 pounds at the Combine, it’s unlikely that was his playing weight. Both Richardson and Levis are considered projects.

The NFL Draft is always one of the biggest events on the football calendar, with an inordinate amount of time spent on putting together mock drafts and trying to figure out who is going where. While many experts do a good job of guessing the positions in which college players will get drafted, there are always some surprises along he way. A trade or a team moving up to get the man they want can create a ripple effect that changes everything. There is always something unexpected coming along in the draft, like the Green Bay Packers trading up last season to get a QB in the opening round. So, what can we expect in 2021? Let’s find out so you can continue preparing your bets against their NFL Draft odds.

NFL 2021 Draft: What to Expect

This offseason is going to be wild, mostly because we have several big-name quarterbacks who might well be changing addresses before all is said and done. DeShaun Watson wants to be traded out of Houston, the Detroit Lions are shopping Matthew Stafford, and the future is unclear for the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Derek Carr, to name just a few. The question that has to be asked here is when those moves will be made. Will the teams in question make a trade before the draft or will they wait and use those players as leverage to move up or maybe land a higher draft pick? The answer to that will affect everything.

The reality of the NFL is that it is the QB that will make or break a team. Some teams are going to go for the temporary fix of trading for a veteran QB, but others are going to wait for the draft, which brings us to the one thing that we can certainly expect.

Trevor Lawrence Goes First Overall

During last offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars essentially stripped their team down to the bare bones, trading away their best players before the season began. It looked obvious that they were getting set to tank the season and land the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. While they did come out and win their opening game, they lost the next 15, going with a mix of different QB’s that did not often look as though they belonged in the league. That essentially made it clear that Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson would be their pick, so do not expect any surprises there.

This is a draft that is rich in QBs and WRs, so expect to see them dominate the opening 10 picks or so, although there may be a couple of teams who choose to go the LB route. It all come down to specific team needs, but we have historically seen teams surprise us with their selections, going with a player that might be a bit of a stretch. We don’t always see a lot of risky picks in the opening round, so expect that theme to continue this year.

As we said at the start of this piece, the overall picture could change dramatically if those QBs start moving before the draft, so don’t rely too heavily on what you are seeing in mock drafts right now.

Updated 2021 NFL Draft Race for No. 1 Pick

With Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence expected to be the top pick in next year’s draft, let’s find out which teams are in line to land the top overall pick and which teams could potentially get there. The New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals all lost while continuing to hold down the top three spots. The LA Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys both won while decreasing their odds of landing a Top 5 selection. Now, let’s look at every team entering Week 15 currently in line for one of the top 10 picks in the 2021 NFL Draft!

1. NY Jets (0-13)

The Jets remained entrenched in the top spot to get the No. 1 overall pick following its 40-3 blowout loss at Seattle on Sunday. Could the lowly Jets mess it up by actually winning a game? I don’t see it happening, but then again, it’s the Jets we’re talking about!

2. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-12)

The Jaguars started off the season with Gardner Minshew under center, but since then, the AFC South cellar dwellers have gone through Jake Luton, Mike Glennon and now back to Minshew. Jacksonville is coming off a humbling 31-10 smackdown loss against Tennessee on Sunday and will likely try to lose each of their three remaining regular season games in order to ensure then land either Ohio State’s Justin Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson.

3. Cincinnati Bengals (2-10-1)

The Bengals were on the wrong (right?) end of a dismal 30-7 loss to lowly Dallas on Sunday to remain locked into the No. 3 spot in next year’s draft. The good news is that the Bengals don’t need a quarterback after getting it right by drafting Joe Burrow in this year’s draft!

4. LA Chargers (4-9)

The Bolts snapped a two-game skid by upsetting the Falcons 20-17 on Sunday, but they also worsened their chances of getting the top overall pick in doing so.

5. Dallas Cowboys (4-9)

The Cowboys also saw their odds of landing the top pick in next year’s draft get worse by beating the lowly Bengals 30-7 on Sunday.

6. Carolina Panthers (4-9)

The Panthers put up a furious fourth quarterback comeback attempt against Denver on Sunday, but came up just short of getting it in their narrow, 32-27 home loss. The good news is that the loss helped the Panthers remain in great shape to get a Top 5 pick in the 2021 NFL draft!

7. Atlanta Falcons (4-9)

After winning three of its previous four games, Atlanta has now lost two straight including their 20-17 loss against the Chargers on Sunday. The Falcons might not be inline to draft one of the top quarterbacks on the board, but they could start looking for Matt Ryan’s eventual successor at No. 7.

8. Miami Dolphins (via) Houston Texans (4-9)

The Dolphins have a winning record this season, but the quickly improving AFC East playoff hopefuls remain in line to get a top 10 pick next year as they own Houston’s pick for trading Pro Bowl offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil to the Texans two years ago. Houston never showed up in its embarrassing 36-7 blowout loss against Chicago on Sunday.

9. Philadelphia Eagles (4-8-1)

The Eagles picked up a huge, 24-21 win over New Orleans to keep their hopes of winning the NFC East alive. However, the Birds also decreased their slim chances of getting into the top three with the win.

10. New York Giants (5-8)

The G-Men might have had their four-game winning streak unceremoniously snapped in their 26-7 home loss against desperate Arizona on Sunday, but did get back in the hunt for a top 10 pick with the loss. Now, just a game behind red-hot Washington in the NFC East standings and with three games left, the Giants will surely try to reach the playoffs – even though their desire to win games now will lessen their chances of remaining i the top 10 in next year’s draft!

As soon as college players declare for the NFL draft, the experts who make a living ranking players and creating mock drafts get to work figuring out where they might be ranked. The initial selections never stay the same, as there are several factors that come into play between the end of the college season and the draft. Players will have pro days, which can see their stock rise or fall rather dramatically. They will also have team interviews, which can also have an impact on their ranking. No two outlets have the rankings exactly the same at this point, but we can take a look at the projected top 5 based on how things look across the board, so let’s do that. That being said, let’s get right to it so you can continue getting ready to make your bets against their NFL Draft odds.

Trevor Lawrence QB

Even when this kid was coming out of high school and into the college ranks, the general consensus was that he was a future first-round pick. After a stellar career with Clemson, that is exactly what he will be, as it will be no surprise at all when the Jacksonville Jaguars select him first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence has not moved out of the #1 spot and was there even before he officially declared himself eligible. This is one ranking that is not going to change.

Ja’Marr Chase WR

The rankings after Lawrence are very much up for debate, but it would certainly not be a surprise to see LSU WR Ja’Marr Chase go with the second pick overall. Teams are always looking for offensive weapons, and this player has all the tools required to make him an instant starter in the NFL. Remember, though, that this list is about how players are ranked, not where they will actually go in the draft. What we are saying here is that Chase looks to be the most complete receiver in the draft.

Penei Sewell OT

There is a lot to like about this left tackle out of Oregon, and while there are some who suggest that Sewell may be missing that little nasty streak that sets NFL tackles apart from the rest, he has a ton of upside. That is going to make him a valuable option for a lot of teams across the league, so this is another player that is almost certainly going to be a high draft pick. Whether he goes ahead of some of the skilled position players on the board remains to be seen.

Zach Wilson QB

This is a very good QB class that we have in the draft this season, but where they will all eventually land seems to be open to discussion. The general consensus is that BYU QB Wilson is the second-best option after Lawrence, but there may be a few teams who see Justin Fields as the better option. There are some question marks with Fields, which is why he has not cracked the top 5 across all the different rankings, but it’s tough to say what each team might want.

Micah Parsons LB

Again, this final ranking is all subjective, but every team is always on the lookout for a reliable LB, and you have to say that Parsons is the best one on the board. He will start immediately wherever he finally ends up and will almost certainly have a noticeable impact.

Expect the Top 10 to Rearrange Itself

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati’s star rookie quarterback, blew up his knee after a tough hit in a Week 11 loss to the Washington Football Team. Without Joe, the Bengals could finish off the season losing every one of their games.

They won’t catch the Jets because J-E-T-S will go 0-16. But Cincy could overtake the Jaguars and the WFT as all three head down the toilet bowl. If Cincinnati does get the second pick, or third, they grab Oregon tackle Penei Sewell.

At 6’6” and 330 pounds, Sewell moves like a nimble, ballerina. He will dominate opposing defenses, giving Burrow the protection the Heisman Trophy winner requires.

Jets won’t Pass on Trevor Lawrence

If the Jets keep the top pick, they won’t pass on drafting Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. They can trade Sam Darnold to the highest-bidder and go with Trevor. Or they can trade the pick and move down for a bevy of picks.

Heck, if the Jets trade the pick to some team like the Jaguars, they may not pass on Ohio State signal-caller Justin Fields. We should assume that no matter what Jets’ brass is saying, Darnold is gone.

Three Quarterbacks Could Go in the Top 4

The Jets, Jaguars, and WFT all require quarterbacks. Dwayne Haskins won’t be in maroon and gold next season. He’ll pick up his cleats and head out of D.C. No way the Washington Football Team restarts with Dwayne.

We already discussed NYJ. They won’t pass on Fields or Lawrence. They may not pass on Trey Lance, North Dakota State’s quarterback. Lance is 6’ 4” and 226 lbs. He throws his balls low, but he’s got skills.

The Jaguars will draft Lance, move up for Lawrence, or Fields. Their three starters are Gardner Minshew II, Mike Glennon, and Jake Luton.

What will Dallas and Miami do?

Miami seems set on Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins will most likely stick with Tua because the Houston Texans, whom they got the pick from, have played well enough to fall from the Top 5. If you can’t draft Fields, Lance, or Lawrence, there’s no reason to go for a quarterback.

The Fins aren’t far from contending. They could go with a top wide receiver, draft an offensive lineman, or draft the best defensive player available. Or they could draft out of the spot and look to pick up enough picks to shore up some positions.

Dallas has talent on both sides of the football. Who knows what the Cowboys will do. Expect to learn more after Jerry Jones decides if Mike McCarthy is his head coach or not. If McCarthy stays, well, he probably won’t, which means Jerry allows his new HC to make the call.

We could all use a little jolt of excitement in the world of sports, and we should get a nice fix over the next few days, as the 2020 NFL draft is set to commence on Thursday, April 23. While it will look a little different this year, the draft will still encompass 7 rounds of picks between Thursday and Saturday. We thought it might be fun to put together a little primer of where each team picks, so let’s go and see who they might pick and their Draft betting odds.

NFL Draft Order & Rounds For 2020

Arizona Cardinals – They will pick 8^th overall before getting the 8^th pick in the second round. The Cardinals will also have a pair of picks in the fourth round (8^th and 25th), as well as picks in the sixth and seventh rounds.

Atlanta Falcons – Starting with the 16^th overall pick, the Falcons have 5 picks through the first four rounds before getting their final pick in the seventh round.

Baltimore Ravens – They have a ton of picks coming, starting at 28^th overall. They then have 2 picks in the second, third, and fourth rounds before rounding it out with picks in the fifth and seventh.

Buffalo Bills – No picks until the 22^nd of the second round. They then have at least one pick in each of the remaining rounds, including 2 in the sixth.

Carolina Panthers – They start out by picking 7^th overall, and they then have one pick in each round, with 2 in the fifth.

Chicago Bears – The Bears don’t pick until 11^th in the second round, but they have 2 picks in that round, as well as 2 in the sixth and 2 in the seventh, with a fifth round pick wedged in between.

Cincinnati Bengals – They have the #1 pick in the draft, and then one in each of the other 6 rounds.

Cleveland Browns – They start with the 10^th pick overall before getting 4 in the next 3 rounds, including 2 in the third. They also have picks in the sixth and seventh.

Dallas Cowboys – They will start by picking 17^th overall, and they will then have 6 more picks, with 2 coming in the fifth.

Denver Broncos – The Broncos have 10 picks spread out across the 7 rounds, including 3 in the third. Their first pick is 15^th overall.

Detroit Lions – The Lions pick 3^rd overall, before having picks in all the remaining rounds, including 2 in the third and fifth.

Green Bay Packers – Green Bay starts with the 30^th overall pick and have one in each round up until the sixth, where they have 3, as well as 2 in the seventh.

Houston Texans – The Texans don’t get a pick until 8^th in the second, after which they have picks in the third, fourth, and fifth, as well as 3 in the seventh.

Indianapolis Colts – Another team with no pick in the first, but 2 in the second round, then third, fourth, fifth, and 2 in the sixth.

Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jags are loaded, including a pair of picks in the first round (9^th and 20^th). They have 10 more picks spread out over the other 6 rounds.

Kansas City Chiefs – The champs have just 5 picks, one in each of the first 5 rounds.

LA Chargers – The Chargers get a single pick in each round, starting with 5^th overall in the first.

LA Rams – No picks in the first, the Rams have 2 in the second, 2 in the third, and 1 in the fourth, sixth, and seventh.

Las Vegas Raiders – LV have 2 in the first (12^th and 19^th), 3 in the third, and 1 in the fourth and fifth.

Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins are loaded on the front end with 3 picks (5^th, 18^th, and 26^th) in the first round and 2 in the second. They have 9 more picks spread through the remaining 5 rounds.

Minnesota Vikings – Another team with 2 in the first (22^nd and 29^th), as well as 9 more picks through the remaining rounds.

New England Patriots – The Patriots pick 12^th overall, and then have 11 more picks, including 3 in the third.

New Orleans Saints – Just 5 picks for the Saints. 24^th in Round 1, then picks in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.

New York Giants – 4^th pick overall, then one in each of the next 5 rounds before getting 4 in the seventh.

New York Jets – They have the 11^th pick overall, followed by 7 more than includes 2 in the third and sixth rounds.

Philadelphia Eagles – 21^st overall pick, and then picks in each of the next 5 rounds, with 3 in the fourth.

Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers do not pick until Round 2, then they have single picks in the third, sixth, and seventh, as well as 2 in the fourth.

Seattle Seahawks – Seattle starts with the 27^th overall pick, then 2 in the second, 1 in the third, 2 in the fourth, and 1 in the sixth.

San Francisco 49ers – 2 picks in the first (13^th and 31^st), then nothing until the fifth (2), sixth, and seventh (2).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – They start with the 14^th pick overall and then 1 in each round thereafter.

Tennessee Titans – The 29^th overall pick followed by picks in the second, third, and fifth, as well as 3 in the seventh.

2020 NFL Draft Odds More 1st Round Picks AAC, Pac-12, Big 12, LSU & Alabama

In keeping with the theme of which conference will see more players picked in the first round, I’m also going to examine whether the ACC will see more of their players picked in Round 1 or whether the Big 12 could beat them out in this draft odds wager. Last, but not least, I’m going to offer up an expert prediction on whether defending national champion LSU will see more of their players picked in the opening round than perennially-powerful SEC rival Alabama. Now, let’s get started.

More First Round Picks AAC vs Pac-12

If there were more linebacker needy teams in the 2020 NFL draft, Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons could very well have been the top overall pick in this year’s draft. The do-it-all ‘freak of nature’ is a lock top 10 pick and he’ll be joined as an opening round pick by teammate and wide receiver Tee Higgins, a late round pick projection. Louisville tackle Mekhi Becton is easily a top 15 selection, but that’s it from the ACC.

The Pac-12 conference hasn’t produced a ‘real’ national championship hopeful in quite some time, but the conference will see Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert become a top 10 pick while speedy Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault will also go off the board in the opening round, somewhere between the 20th and 28th overall picks. My third and final Pac-12 player to be picked in the opening round is USC tackle Austin Jackson, possibly to Miami with the 26th overall pick. Play the Pac-12 at +½ to narrowly win this wager.

Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb should be the first wide receiver taken in this year’s draft (sorry Jerry Jeudy). Sooners linebacker Kenneth Murray is also expected to go in the middle portion of the first round while TCU wideout Jalen Reagor and TCU defensive tackle Ross Blacklock are also expected to go off the board in the opening round. In the ACC, Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons will go inside the top 10 and Louisville tackle Mekhi Becton will go off the board shortly thereafter. Fleet-footed Clemson wide receiver Tee Higgins should go off the board later in the first round to give the conference three players picked in the first round. Go with the Big 12 to scratch out the narrow win in this draft odds wager.

More 2020 NFL Draft First Round Picks LSU vs Alabama

A pair of quarterbacks will highlight LSU and Alabama’s 2020 NFL draft as Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa both go off the board inside the top five picks. LSU will also see linebackers Patrick Queen and K’Lavon Chaisson drafted in the opening round as well as wide receiver Justin Jefferson and safety Grant Delpit, making it five Tigers being selected in the opening stanza. For Alabama, I’m expecting tackle Jedrick Wills, wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs and safety Xavier McKinney to all join Tagovailoa as first round selections, making it five former Crimson Tide players to go off the board in the opening round. With the 2020 NFL Draft now just around the corner, we are beginning to hear a lot of teams talk about their specific needs, while others seem to be a little more secretive. Regardless of how open the teams are this close to the draft, we all still have a pretty clear idea of the holes that need to be filled on every single team in the league. Some teams have already started to fill those gaps through free agency, with the next few days now crucial to how everyone is going to look next season. While some teams need guys who can play now, others are in the position of being able to draft for the future or to add some depth to the lineup. For the purposes of this piece, we are going to specifically look at the 4 teams in the NFC South and how they might approach the draft, along with their Draft betting odds.

NFC South Mock Draft For 2020 Draft

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints, who have won the NFC South division in each of the past two seasons, are pretty solid from top to bottom, so they are one of those teams who will be planning for the near future in this draft. All their key players are already locked up through this season, but with some big names in a contract year, the Saints need to think about replacing the guys they won’t be able to keep after this season. Chances are that the Saints will get the ball rolling by choosing an OLB, with Cesar Ruiz in their sights. They will also be looking at a TE and a safety in the early rounds, as those would appear to be their most immediate needs.

Atlanta Falcons

Given that the Falcons were a very disappointing 7-9 last season, this might well be a very crucial draft for coach Dan Quinn, as he is sure to be on a rather short leash this coming season. While the Falcons are still loaded on the offensive side of the football, they may want to consider taking an RB at some point. They did pick up Todd Gurley in free agency, but his injuries are a concern and the Falcons may need some cover there. It is defense that needs to be addressed first, though, with a CB high on the list. They will also be looking for a disruptive edge rusher, which may be their first pick.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

No team has made a bigger splash in the free agent market than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not only did they go out and land the GOAT by signing Tom Brady to a 2-year deal, they then added Rob Gronkowski in a move that came out of nowhere. They are likely to go looking for a tackle in the early rounds and will also try to bolster their offensive line in hopes of giving Brady the protection he needs to go to work. The Bucs realize that they may have a small window of opportunity here to win the NFC South division and go all the way for the Super Bowl Championship, so they are going to be looking for players that can contribute right away.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were brutal last season and have used the offseason to start cleaning house and rebuilding. This team is not likely to be very competitive this coming season, although picking up QB Teddy Bridgewater and WR Robby Anderson means that they can focus on filling some of their more immediate needs. Their toughest decision is going to be their first pick, which comes at #7. If any of the big name QB’s drop, they might be tempted to go that route, but they are more likely to look for help on the D. They are also going to need to pick up a TE at some point.

With the completion of the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, numerous Super Bowl-hopefuls are likely to see their 2017 NFL odds change, whether it’s for the better or not. Thankfully, this look back at the top winners and losers and how their draft pick could impact their futures odds in the coming season will both inform and entertain.

Winners

Cleveland Browns 300/1

The Browns get an ‘A’ for drafting defensive end Myles Garrett with the first overall pick and they also get good grades for nabbing hybrid linebacker/safety Jabrill Peppers at No. 25 and Miami tight end David Njoku at No. 29. All three players will make a contribution right away, so Cleveland’s 300/1 odds could improve in the near future.

Carolina 35/1

The Panthers nabbed a player at No. 8 that I believe is going to be a flat-out star in hybrid running back/receiver/returner Christian McCaffrey. The former Stanford star will see plenty of action right away in a variety of roles and hi presence alone should improve Carolina’s NFL futures odds.

Houston 15/1

The Texans made the best move of all by moving up to take Clemson superstar Deshaun Watson with the Browns’ No. 12 pick and while he may not see the field as a rookie, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did and I’m genuinely expecting Watson to become a star in the NFL. By the way, why the hell are the Texans favored to win Super Bowl 52 over teams like Oakland, Denver, Pittsburgh and Kansas City? Strange!

Jacksonville 90/1

Jacksonville is never a favorite, but having the talents of Leonard Fournette will definitely give the team a much better chance this coming season. The Jags are a 90/1 pick to win Super Bowl 52, but drafting Leonard Fournette could bump up their odds just a bit, to maybe, 75/1. Fournette is a monster athlete that has stardom written all over him.

San Francisco 300/1

Not only did the Niners get the player they wanted by drafting Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas, but they absolutely fleeced the Bears by dropping down one spot and getting Chicago’s third- and fourth-round picks this year along with a third-rounder next year.

”Kudos to the Bears,” new Frisco GM John Lynch said. ”I give Ryan Pace and John Fox credit for making a courageous move and we’re thrilled with what we got out of it.”

Arizona 32/1

The Cardinals needed a linebacker in the worst way and they got an absolute stud in Temple linebacker Hassan Reddick. I have no idea why the Cardinals’ upper Bowl 52 odds are behind teams like Minnesota and Indianapolis, but the addition of Reddick could help improve their odd, even if it’s not by much.

Losers

Chicago 125/1

The Bears made a foolish move to move up just one spot to nab North Carolina signal-caller Mitchell Trubisky when they could have gotten him with their original No. 3 pick. Not only did the Bears give up too much for Trubisky, but I also believe they made a hue mistake by not drafting the far more proven Deshaun Watson.

Cleveland 300/1

I know you just saw the Browns on my ‘winners’ list as a team whose NFL futures odds could improve this season, but the Browns also blew it by failing to draft a quarterback when they could and should have.

Kansas City 25/1

I have no idea what the hell Andy Reid was thinking, but I believe he made a foolish mistake by moving up to draft Patrick Mahomes II over Watson. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Mahomes and I do believe he could turn into a quality quarterback at some point in the near future. However, I genuinely believe that Deshaun Watson is going to be a superstar at some point in the very near future and that passing on him was a huge mistake by any team that drafted another quarterback instead of the national championship-winning Watson.
