Win Big on the Dodgers vs. Mariners Game with our Expert Picks

In mid-June, the Seattle Mariners were running away with the AL West Division but have largely fallen apart since then and would not be in the AL playoffs as things stand.

The M’s start a very tough series at the NL West-leading Dodgers on Monday night, with LA as a solid favorite on the MLB odds according to MyBookie Sportsbook.

Opening MLB Lines: Dodgers -145, Mariners +125 (total 8)
Score Prediction: Dodgers 4, Mariners 3

Seattle Mariners Moneyline +112

Since taking a 10-game lead atop the American League West on June 18, Seattle is just 20-30 after Sunday’s win in Pittsburgh to snap a five-game losing streak. Only the historically bad Chicago White Sox have a worse winning percentage over that span.

While the starting pitching has largely remained very good, it’s just a bad lineup. Trade acquisition and outfielder Randy Arozarena struck out in all five at-bats in Saturday’s 7-2 loss, and he has a 55.6 percent strikeout rate over his last four games. He got Sunday off to try and reset.

Mitch Haniger

Fellow outfielder Haniger went 2-for-2 with a run on Saturday, being removed from the game in the fourth inning with a quadriceps injury. Haniger’s injury, which occurred on his leaping attempt at a Rowdy Tellez fourth-inning home run, put a damper on his first multi-hit effort was his first since Aug. 3. Haniger was not in the lineup on Sunday and is day-to-day.

The Mariners are 40-4 when scoring 5+ runs in a game, tied with Houston for best record in MLB. They are 51-10 when scoring 4+ runs in a game, tied for 2nd-best. The Mariners are 32-15 when striking out less than 10 times in a game this season, the best record in MLB in games with 9-or-fewer strikeouts.

Cal Raleigh

Raleigh is the first MLB catcher with 3+ consecutive 25+ home run seasons since Hall of Famer Mike Piazza had 8 consecutive (1995-2002). Raleigh could also become the first catcher to lead the majors in catcher caught stealing in consecutive seasons since Hall of Famer Gary Carter (1982-83).

Bryan Woo on the Hill

It’s excellent young righty Woo on the mound Monday. Woo (5-1, 2.06 ERA) came away with a no-decision in last Wednesday’s 3-2 extra-inning loss to the Tigers, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter. Woo generated 29 called or swinging strikes among his 85 pitches but wound up settling for his third straight quality start and seventh of the season when his bullpen couldn’t get the job done.

Through three outings in August, he’s delivered a 1.31 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 19:1 K:BB through 20.2 innings, and he seems fully recovered from the hamstring issues that began bothering him in late June. Woo, who has never faced the Dodgers, has allowed 1-or-fewer runs in 9 of his 14 starts this season.

Los Angeles Moneyline -149

The Dodgers are likely to be without All-Star first baseman and former NL MVP Freddie Freeman again on Monday. He left Saturday’s game against the Cardinals with a jammed middle finger. X-rays were negative, but Manager Dave Roberts said that it’s painful enough to where Freeman can’t grip a bat and is due a CT scan on Monday. Freeman is hitting .292 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs.

Out of the Injury List

Fortunately for the Dodgers, reinforcements for the lineup appear to be arriving on Monday, with the team expected to activate infielder Max Muncy and super-utility man Tommy Edman from the injured list. Edman was acquired at the trade deadline in a three-team deal with the Cardinals and White Sox but hasn’t played in the Show in 2024 due to injury. With Edman set to become the Dodgers’ primary center fielder, Andy Pages will likely get bumped to a platoon role or potentially even optioned. The rookie has struggled defensively at times this season, including not taking optimal routes on fly balls.

Muncy has been out of the lineup since May due to a right oblique strain. The veteran was supposed to be back earlier in the year but saw a few setbacks that delayed his return to the team. He would become the primary third baseman but also can play first if need be is Freeman is out. Muncy was hitting .223 with nine homers and 28 RBI in 40 games.

Shohei Ohtani

As of Sunday, Dodgers star and NL MVP Ohtani is three stolen bases and two homers away from becoming the first player in franchise history to go 40-40 and would be the sixth player in MLB history to accomplish the feat. He is batting under .200 in August, however.

Gavin Stone on the Hill

Young righty Stone takes the mound Monday. Stone (10-5) allowed one run on three hits and struck out six without walking a batter over five innings to earn the win last Tuesday over the Brewers. Stone was sharp, throwing 61 of 86 pitches for strikes. The lone run on his line came from a William Contreras solo shot in the third inning.

Homers do remain a problem for Stone — he’s allowed at least one in each of his last seven starts, and this was just the third time in that span he’s been able to complete five innings. He’s now at a 3.63 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 95:32 K:BB through 121.1 innings over 22 starts this season. Stone has thrown 3.1 career scoreless innings vs. Seattle.
