The Dallas Mavericks have had about the worst month of a team in NBA history, trading away superstar Luka Dončić in a shockingly stupid move and then losing fellow star Kyrie Irving to a torn ACL this week. The defending Western Conference champions are nearly double-digit home underdogs, betting on NBA odds against Memphis.
Can the Mavericks at least hang on to the final play-in spot in the Western Conference without Doncic, Irving and Anthony Davis?

Davis of course was the big piece back in the Doncic trade from the Lakers but was injured in his first game with Dallas and hasn’t played since. He’s not expected back this season now. But as of this writing, the Mavs do hold down the final West play-in spot by 2.5 games over No. 11 Phoenix. Those two conclude their regular-season series with a big game Sunday in Dallas. To reach the West play-in, the Mavericks are -330.
Memphis was devastated by injuries last season and missed the playoffs but is battling for a top-four spot in the West this season. The Grizzlies could finish as high as second and get home-court advantage until a possible West Finals’ matchup vs. top-seeded OKC. To win the West for the first time in franchise history, the Grizzlies are +1800.
Friday marks the third of four regular-season meetings between the clubs, and they have split the first two with each winning at home. The last one was Jan. 6 in Memphis, a 119–104 Grizzlies win despite playing without Ja Morant and Desmond Bane. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 35 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Dallas was without Luka and Kyrie due to injuries.
^Grizzlies Missing Jaren Jackson Jr.
The Grizzlies aren’t in a great spot right now as they were thumped 120-103 at home by Oklahoma City on Wednesday for a fourth straight loss and are without star big man and former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. for the foreseeable future due to injury.
He was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain suffered during the first quarter against the Hawks on Monday and is week-to-week. The average lost time for injuries of this severity is three weeks. Jackson is averaging 22.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals in 29.4 minutes per game. He has appeared in 59 games and needs to see action in six more to qualify for NBA postseason awards. He’d have to return by early April to make that happen. With Victor Wembanyama out for the season, Jackson is considered a top candidate to win a second Defensive Player of the Year award.

Meanwhile, All-Star guard Ja Morant said after Wednesday’s loss to the Thunder that he has been playing through a bothersome right shoulder issue all season. Morant returned to the Grizzlies lineup on Wednesday after a two-game absence due to what was described as a right deltoid contusion, and he did not shoot the ball well. Going 8-of-22 from the field overall, Morant missed his first five three-point attempts and finished 2-of-9. At one point, he bent down on the opposite side of the floor, grimacing, while his teammates went back down for a transition scoring opportunity.
“Terrible,” Morant said on returning against the Thunder. “I should have been out. But I was out there. Regardless of out, in — there’s going to be something said.”

Mavericks Lose Kyrie for Season
Dallas lost its third straight game in blowout fashion on Wednesday, 137-107 in Milwaukee, in the team’s first game since losing All-Star Kyrie Irving for the rest of this season and perhaps all of 2025-26 to a torn ACL suffered in Monday’s 24-point loss to Sacramento. Late in the first quarter, Irving tried to split through two defenders and stepped on Jonas Valanciunas’ foot with his right foot, which caused an awkward step with his left where his knee bent backward.
Irving (L knee sprain/ACL tear), Jones (L quad strain), Exum (R foot contusion), Hardy (R ankle sprain), Washington Jr. (R ankle sprain), Gafford (R knee sprain), Davis (L adductor strain), Martin (R hip strain) and Lively II (R ankle stress fracture) will be OUT against MIL.

Irving was averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 50 games this season. He made his ninth All-Star appearance last month and has rehabilitated his image after a series of controversial incidents in Brooklyn. Irving had been taking on a larger workload since Luka Dončić was injured on Christmas Day and ultimately traded, so there was speculation that the increased stress on his body contributed to the season-ending injury. From Christmas until Monday, Irving had averaged 38.2 minutes per game, which ranked third in the league in that span.
But Coach Jason Kidd strongly disagreed: “The load didn’t have anything to do with the injury,” Kidd said. “We’re talking about one play. It’s a freak accident. That’s how it should be reported, but we’re not reporting it right. We’re reporting on conspiracy theories.”
Klay Thompson becomes the likely No. 1 offensive option now and had 28 points in the loss to the Thunder. Thompson was the lone player in the Mavs’ regular starting lineup who was healthy enough to play Wednesday. The Mavs, in fact, only dressed the NBA minimum of eight players for the game against the Bucks.

Grizzlies vs Mavericks Betting on NBA Prediction
Memphis will look to end a four-game losing streak, its longest of the season. The Grizzlies had not lost more than two straight games this season before its current streak. The Grizzlies were held to a season-low 103 points Wednesday against the Thunder but maintained their franchise-record 64-game streak of scoring over 100 points. Memphis is the only NBA team this season to reach the century mark in every game. Big man Santi Aldama is questionable for Friday after missing Wednesday with a calf injury. He’s averaging 12.8 points and 6.7 rebounds and takes an even bigger role with Jaren Jackson Jr. out.
In addition to missing Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis on Wednesday, the Mavs were also without Dereck Lively II (right ankle stress fracture), PJ Washington (right ankle sprain), Daniel Gafford (right knee sprain), Dante Exum (right foot contusion), Jaden Hardy (right ankle sprain), Caleb Martin (right hip strain) and Kai Jones (left quad strain). Lively and Gafford may not be back this season now, either.
“This is new territory for everyone,” coach Jason Kidd said. “A lot of people haven’t seen this.”
The Mavericks are 76-38 (.667) all-time against the Grizzlies franchise, including 40-17 at home. But Memphis has taken five of the last eight meetings. A total of 17 of the last 25 matchups have been decided by double digits (Dallas has gone 13-12 in those. The Mavericks have dropped three of the last five meetings at American Airlines Center, after they won four of the previous five in Dallas. Memphis 121, Dallas 117.
