2024 AFC Playoffs Who’s In? Who’s Out? Upsets, and Surprises

2024 AFC Playoffs Who’s In? Who’s Out? Upsets, and Surprises

We are in the final week of the regular season, and we have four teams fighting for the final two spots in the postseason race. Plus, we also have three teams going for one divisional title in the 4th spot. Let’s sort it all out here:

Before that, it’s time to give you an upset on who is in, who is out, some possible upsets and surprises when it comes to the AFC postseason picture.

AFC Playoffs Who’s In? Who’s Out? Upsets, and Surprises in Week 18 | MyBookie NFL Championship Game Preview

2024 AFC Playoffs Saturday, Jan 13 – Sunday, Jan 28, 2024

5. Cleveland Browns 11-5; +4.5 at Cincinnati Bengals:

Fortunately for the Browns, they are in. Cleveland is in the postseason as the 5 seed right now. They are a game ahead of Buffalo and tied with Miami. A win on Sunday would seal the 5th seed. A loss could mean them dropping to the 6th seed, but it would mean a road postseason game regardless.

6. Buffalo Bills 10-6; -3 at Miami Dolphins:

Not only is this to keep the Buffalo Bills playoff spot alive, it’s also a chance to win the AFC East. Miami is in with 11 wins, but a Buffalo loss and Pittsburgh would knock the Bills right out of the postseason spot. The Bills are favorites; as the Dolphins are beat up. Buffalo won the first matchup between these two teams as well.

7. Indianapolis Colts 9-7; -1 vs. Houston Texans:

This not only could be for the divisional title, but also the 7th postseason spot. It’s pretty wild what the AFC South is up against. Jacksonville gets the task of going to Nashville, and a win over them would clinch their 10-7 record and fourth seed. A loss would knock them out of the AFC South running, but potentially still a postseason berth pending other results.

8. Houston Texans 9-7; +1 at Indianapolis Colts:

CJ Stroud is back, and they have their destiny in their own hands. A win over Indianapolis would catapult them into the 7th seed in the AFC playoff picture. The Texans own the tiebreaker over Pittsburgh, so even if they got to 10 wins it would not matter. The Texans looked much better in Week 17 with Stroud back under center.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers 9-7: -3.5 at Baltimore Ravens:

The Steelers obviously are up against the wall a little here. The Steleers will need to win on the road at Baltimore to have any chance. But, the Ravens are not playing for anything. Other than pride, and a chance to knock their divisional rival out of the postseason. But, look for many skill players to sit for the Ravens in this one. Pittsburgh would need a win, and either a Buffalo or Jacksonville loss to get themselves into a posteason position.

Who Gets the Spots?

There is a look at the AFC Wildcard Odds & Betting Picks: Who Gets the Spots? Our prediction will be the Browns at 5, Bills at 6, and finally, the Houston Texans beat the Indianapolis Colts for the 7th and final spot.  Cleveland finishes with a win at Cincinnati. The Bills win at Miami, the Texans win at home over Indianapolis. Best of luck and enjoy Week 18 and into the postseason!

2024 AFC Wild Card Spots: Odds on Who will Win the Spot | MyBookie Playoffs Preview

2023-24 NFL | 104th season of the National Football League
2023-24 NFL Wild Card Playoffs: Saturday, January 13th – Sunday, January. 14th, 2023

Heading into NFL Week 15, plenty of teams remain solid possibilities to nail down AFC Wild Card Playoff spots. Squads like the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, and Indianapolis Colts are fighting for three wild card spots.

Which teams have the best chances of securing wild cards?

Check out the AFC squads, their NFL Wild Card odds, and predictions.

AFC Wild Card 5-Seeds – The Hunt

Cleveland Browns | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Browns 5-seed Prospects: 43%
Browns 6-seed Prospects: 18%

The Browns are almost at 50% to grab the 5-seed wild card. The Browns have an 8-5 record and take on the Bears, Texans, Jets, and Bengals in their final 5 games.

None of Cleveland’s final matchups are lock wins. The Browns could end up struggling against all 4 opponents, including the Bears, which are playing decent football.

Houston Texans | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Texans 5-Seed Prospects: 12%
Texans 6-Seed Prospects: 13%
Texans 7-Seed Prospects: 13%

Houston could be anywhere from a 5 to 7 seed. The Texans also have an outside shot of beating the Jacksonville Jaguars and winning the AFC South.

The Texans finish their season traveling to Tennessee, hosting the Browns, hosting the Titans, and then traveling to Indianapolis to take on the Colts. Houston could win all four or they could lose all four.

The Texans’ chances of securing a wild card depends on C.J. Stroud’s health. Stroud suffered a concussion in the loss to the Jets.

AFC Wildcard – 6-Seed & 7-Seed

Indianapolis Colts | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Colts 6-Seed Prospects: 14%
Colts 7-Seed Prospects: 15%

Gardner Minshew has the Colts knocking on the AFC Playoff door. Minshew has had a decent season filling in for injured rookie quarterback Anthony Richadson.

Gardner has thrown for 2,525 yards and 11 TDs. His 8 interceptions aren’t great, but Minshew has thrown 2 less picks than Patrick Mahomes. So that’s a positive.

Indianapolis finishes their season versus the Steelers, at the Falcons, versus the Raiders, and versus the Texans. The Colts could win all four games, yes, even versus Pittsburgh because Mitch Trubisky is playing QB for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh Steelers | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Steelers 6-Seed Prospects: 12%
Steelers 7-Seed Prospects: 13%

After a loss against the Colts this Sunday, the Steelers will likely fall out of the playoff race. Although it’s easy to blame the fact Kenny Pickett is injured and Trubisky sits under center, the fact is that Pittsburgh has lost 3-of-4.

Not only have the Steelers lost 3-of-4 but 2 of the 3 losses were against the Cardinals and the Patriots, two of the worst teams in the NFL. Pittsburgh finishes their season traveling to Seattle, heading to Indianapolis, and going to Baltimore in 3 of their final 4 games.

The Steelers chances of making the playoffs are worse than the percentages imply.

AFC Wildcard – 7-Seed

AFC Wild Card Pick | Bet Steelers to Reach NFL Playoffs
MyBookie Betting Lines for the Wild Card Spots

Denver Broncos | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Broncos 7-Seed Prospects: 13%

No team in the NFL is as hot as the Broncos. Denver is a final play of the game away from beating the Houston Texans and having won 6-of-7.

The Broncos have a more than workable schedule to finish off the regular season. Denver can beat the Lions, Chargers, Chargers, and Raiders. If the Broncos finish off the season with an 11-6 record, who knows?

Maybe, Denver wins the AFC West, and the Chiefs end up a wild card. The 13% not only reflects Denver’s chances of getting a wild card, but it also reflects the Broncos’ chances of possibly winning the AFC West, meaning Denver’s chances of securing the 7-seed would be higher if they didn’t have a legit shot at winning the West.

MyBookie Betting Lines for the Wild Card Spots

Buffalo Bills | Reaching NFL Playoffs

Bills 7-Seed Prospects: 13%

Buffalo has a tough road ahead to make the playoffs. The Bills host the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday, must travel to the Chargers, host the rejuvenated Patriots, and then must take on the Dolphins in Miami.

A single loss could send the Bills out of the playoff race because the AFC is so deep with talented teams. Buffalo’s loss, their seventh of the season, could come as early as Sunday when the Bills host the Cowboys.

AFC Wild Card Playoff Predictions

5-Denver Broncos

The prediction is that the Broncos win out but miss taking the AFC West title over the Kansas City Chiefs. At 11-6, the Broncos end up the top wild card team.

6-Cleveland Browns

Cleveland finished the season at 10-7. It’s good enough for the Browns to secure the sixth seed because although the Colts also finish 10-7, the Browns beat the Colts 39-38 and head-to-head is the first tie breaker.

7-Indianapolis Colts

The Colts lose 1 more game. The loss is likely to happen against the Falcons in Atlanta in NFL Week 16. Indianapolis will beat Houston in NFL Week 18 in a game that determines which squad grabs the final AFC wild card.

AFC Playoffs Who’s In? Who’s Out? Upsets, and Surprises | MyBookie NFL Championship Game Preview

2024 AFC Playoffs Saturday, Jan 13 – Sunday, Jan 28, 2024

We are wrapping up Week 13 of the National Football League. There are two teams out of the AFC that will play on Monday Night Football.

Before that, it’s time to give you an upset on who is in, who is out, some possible upsets and surprises when it comes to the AFC postseason picture.

Teams That are In:

Baltimore Ravens 9-3
The Ravens had a bye in Week 13. Baltimore is in quite the battle for the top seed in the AFC. Week 13 did help them expand their divisional lead to two games. Lamar Jackson and company have put up quite a 2023 season.

Miami Dolphins 9-3
With another blowout win in Week 13, the Dolphins are tied at the top of the AFC standings. Miami has a tough stretch in their final three, but this team seems to be clicking on all cylinders right now.

Jacksonville Jaguars 8-3
The Jaguars can join the Ravens and Dolphins at the top of the AFC standings with a Monday Night Football win. The Jaguars are getting pushed by both Indianapolis and Houston in the AFC South.

Kansas CIty Chiefs 8-4
The loss on Sunday Night Football pushed them a game back. The chances of hosting the AFC title game are slimming down a bit. Kansas City is the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Pittsburgh Steelers 7-5
The Steelers are coming off an ugly loss at home to Arizona. They are also going to be without their starting quarterback Kenny Pickett for a couple weeks as well.

Cleveland Browns 7-5
Another team without their starting quarterback – as Deshaun Watson is out for the season. Cleveland is coming off a loss to the Rams. The defense has been strong, but their inability to get another going on offense has killed them.

Indianapolis Colts 7-5
What a big time overtime win on Sunday over the Titans. The win pushed them to 7-5, and kept pace in the AFC wildcard chase. The Colts are going to have to continue winning without running back Jonathan Taylor.

Teams That are Out:

Houston Texans 7-5
The Texans are on the short end of a four team tiebreaker. For now. Houston is coming off a Week 13 win, but lost their top target in Tank Dell for the season.

Buffalo Bills 6-6
Buffalo will start their final five games of the regular season, still with a chance at the postseason. It’s been a frustrating season, at best, for Josh Allen and his teammates, but there is still hope.

Denver Broncos 6-6
The Broncos had their five game winning streak snapped, and are now back to .500. The Broncos are another team that has been up and down, and way down early in the season.

Cincinnati Bengals 5-6
The Monday Night Football game at Jacksonville is a big one for the Bengals. Cincinnati, despite not having Joe Burrow could still be just a game out win. A loss, and their chances drop by time.

Los Angeles Chargers 5-7
The Chargers shut out the Patriots on Sunday, and picked up their 5th win. Los Angeles likely will need to win out to have a chance at the postseason, which could mean an end to their head coach Brandon Staley.

Las Vegas Raiders 5-7
Despite showing signs of life, it does not look like the postseason will be in the cards for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. Josh Jacobs started slow, but has come on a bit in the second half of the season.

New York Jets 4-8
What an offensive mess it has been for the Jets. Aaron Rodgers would be coming back to complete mess. Something they’ll need to address in the off-season.

Tennessee Titans 4-8
The loss in overtime at home to the Colts pretty much locked them into a non playoff team. The Titans have seen their running back Derrick Henry put up back to back weeks of solid performances.

New England Patriots 2-10
It has been a season to forget for the Patriots. Just one game ahead of Carolina for the worst record in all of the National Football League.

Possible AFC Upsets:

Look out for the Buffalo Bills. Despite their struggles, we all know they have all the talent to put something together and make a run at it. Our possible AFC upset, would be if the Bills got into the postseason as the #7 seed. Look for them to get an opportunity to take on a team like the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills taking down the Jaguars in the first round of the postseason would be an upset, but certainly one we could see happening. When Josh Allen gets hot, he can really be hot. This would be a perfect scenario for that.

Possible AFC Surprises:

Not sure there is a situation in the AFC that would really be all that surprising. The Houston Texans could be seen as a surprise if they were one of the wildcard teams to get into the postseason. They will be tough to defend with CJ Stroud’s ability to move the football. If they can grab some running game, they will be even tougher to slow down. They would be a surprise in the AFC. Playing a first round game against a team like the Miami Dolphins would certainly open the eyes of football fans.

The biggest surprise so far this season in the AFC is the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers both being on the outside looking in. For Cincinnati, it’s mostly been the injuries to Joe Burrow, but also ineffective play. For the Chargers, they just have been snake bitten by poor play, and tight games. They are likely going to need a new head coach before the start of the 2024 season. Those two teams have been the biggest surprises on the negative side in the AFC.

NFL Week 10
AFC Playoffs Who’s In? Who’s Out? Upsets, and Surprises | MyBookie NFL Championship Game Preview

Heading into NFL Week 10, it’s obvious that some teams in the AFC have what it takes to secure playoff spots. Other squads are on the fast track to playoff elimination.

Here, we will provide the NFL odds for the AFC Playoffs, who’s in, who’s out, and AFC Playoff surprises.

2024 AFC Playoffs Saturday, Jan 13 – Sunday, Jan 28, 2024

Who’s In the AFC Playoffs?

Kansas City Chiefs
Jacksonville Jaguars
Cincinnati Bengals
Miami Dolphins

KC’s win over Miami in Germany proves the Chiefs remain one of the AFC’s top teams. Kansas City was tremendous when beating Tua and the Fins. The defense held the Dolphins to 14 points, which is something only a few teams in the league can accomplish. Kansas City has a real shot of repeating as Super Bowl champs. KC is already a lock to win the AFC West.

Jacksonville is running away with the AFC South Division. The Jaguars have become elite. Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, and Calvin Ridley make for a fantastic Big 3 on offense. Jacksonville’s defense is one of the best at forcing turnovers.

Joe Burrow and the Bengals have beaten Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, and the Bills, three playoff contenders, in their last three. The offensive line has gelled and the defense is playing great. The Bengals overtake Baltimore and win the AFC North.

Miami played Kansas City tough in Week 9, giving up just 21 points and losing by 7. The Dolphins win the AFC East and won’t be close.

Who’s Out of the AFC Playoffs?

Houston Texans
Cleveland Browns
Buffalo Bills
L.A. Chargers
New York Jets

C.J. Stroud is the next great NFL quarterback. He’s got excellent instincts and has leadership skills on par with the best QBs in the league. But the Texans are at least a season away from challenging for a wildcard.

Cleveland dominated the Cardinals in Week 10, but the Browns have three difficult games ahead: at the Ravens, versus the Steelers, and at the Broncos. The Browns will lose 2-of-3 and then go less than .500 down the stretch.

Buffalo misses out on the playoffs. The Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys, Chargers, and Dolphins remain on the schedule. The Bills are a solid team, but their schedule is as brutal as it gets.

The Bolts looked good beating the Jets this past Monday Night Football. However, the rest of the schedule is a murderers’ row of quality teams. Denver is surging and the Chargers must play the Broncos twice. The Raiders are a different team with Antonio Pierce calling the shots. The Ravens, Chiefs, and Lions are better than LAC.

In their next 6 games, the Jets face the Dolphins twice, the Raiders on the road, are at the Bills, and take on the Falcons and Texans. NYJ loses at least five of those six games and could lose all six.

AFC Picks: Bet AFC Wildcard Berths
MyBookie Betting Lines for the championship game

Which Teams will Win AFC Wildcard Berths?

Baltimore Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers
Denver Broncos

Baltimore is 7-2 and will lose three or four of their final seven games at the most. The problem is that they are just a game ahead of the Bengals, and Joe Cool and his mates could run the table. So the best Lamar and his buds will do is secure a wildcard.

Pittsburgh is 5-3. The Steelers should win at least four of their next five games, which means Pittsburgh will end the season with a 9-8 record. Pittsburgh sneaks into the playoffs because they have a better record than the Las Vegas Raiders, which will finish 8-9 after losing twice to the Chiefs, dropping a game at Miami, and losing at home in NFL Week 18 to the Denver Broncos.

Choosing Denver is the biggest surprise AFC Playoff prediction pick. The Broncos could win seven of their final nine games. Denver showed something before last week’s bye, trouncing the Chiefs 24-9. Don’t be surprised if the Colorado Ponies pick it up after the bye and skate into the playoffs.
