2023 NFL Divisional Round
- When: Saturday, Jan. 21 – Sunday, Jan. 22
Jacksonville Jaguars at Kansas City Chiefs -8.5 | Saturday, Jan. 21
Like what’s happened so many times this season, oddsmakers have overvalued the Chiefs. KC is 5-11-1 ATS.
Jacksonville rallied from 27 points down to beat the favored Los Angeles Chargers, which is one of the reasons they’re a good play in this to at least cover the spread.
Now that Trevor Lawrence has a playoff victory under his belt, we should expect a calmer Trevor, one who doesn’t make mistakes. The Jaguars will struggle on defense to stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense.
But Lawrence and running back Travis Etienne should play well enough to keep the score to within the number. Kansas City wins straight up and the Jags cover.
NFL Divisional Round Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars +8.5
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles -7.5 | Saturday, Jan. 21
Saturday will be Philly quarterback Jalen Hurts’ second game since Dec. 18. Jalen’s first game since Dec. 18 was a couple of weeks ago in NFL Week 18 when the Eagles beat the Giants 22-16.
Brian Daboll sat Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, and some of his best defensive players. What has to scare you if you want to put money behind the Eagles is that the G-Men racked up 129 yards on the ground even though Barkley sat.
Daniel Jones showed a new dimension in the upset victory over the Vikings. So we must give Jones and the Giants the nod to cover for sure.
NFL Divisional Round Pick: New York Giants +7.5
Cincinnati Bengals at Buffalo Bills -4.5 | Sunday, Jan. 22
It’s easy to go with the Bengals in this game. Cincinnati managed to pull out a win versus one of their most bitter rivals, the Baltimore Ravens.
But the Bengals got lucky when Baltimore called one of the dumbest plays in recent memory on Cincinnati’s goal line. Without Sam Hubbard’s 98-yard fumble return for a TD, the Ravens would have knocked out the Bengals.
Yes, Buffalo looked terrible when beating the Dolphins. But the Bills face Joe Burrow and a Cincinnati offense missing 3 starters along the line. Buffalo could blow it, no doubt, but they should win and cover the spread.
NFL Divisional Round Pick: Buffalo Bills -4.5
Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers -4 | Sunday, Jan. 22
San Francisco is an overlay because NFL handicappers saw what the Cowboys did to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and are reading way too much into the victory.
Tom Brady drove the Bucs to inside Dallas’ 10-yard line. All the Buccaneers had to do was rush the football. Instead, Brady threw a pick.
So if the Buccaneers score, Tampa is up 7-6. The whole game would have changed.
Dallas routed the Buccaneers because Tampa is a tired, old, team and Brady should retire. San Francisco is a much different squad. Brock Purdy is playing like the young Tom Brady and the defense is better suited to stopping Dallas’ offense. The 49ers should have no trouble covering the -4 spread.
NFL Divisional Round Pick: San Francisco 49ers -4
