The Baltimore Ravens are the gods of the preseason as they have won an unthinkable and NFL-record 23 straight preseason games under John Harbaugh. They play their exhibition opener Saturday night at home vs. Philadelphia and we expect win No. 24 in a row. Here are three other likely winners from Saturday around the league to consider in your NFL preseason betting odds.

Colts fans will get their first look at rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft out of Florida. He’s battling veteran Gardner Minshew for the regular-season starting job. Well, it’s going to be Richardson’s eventually but if he has a rough preseason, it could be Minshew in Week 1. Richardson will start this game. The dude is an athletic freak and gives the Colts their most physically dynamic quarterback since Andrew Luck, who retired in 2019. The Colts were enamored by Richardson’s rare size (6-4, 244), speed and strength. It apparently didn’t matter to them that he struggled to actually complete passes in 2022. Richardson will be in his first live contact situation since undergoing nasal surgery two weeks ago, but he has been a full participant in all practices since his return to the lineup Aug. 1. “I want to just see where he’s at,” new Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Thursday. “Get him out there — he’s been doing a nice job. Let’s get him out there with the guys and go from there.” Steichen said that the starters will play about a quarter.
Most of Buffalo’s starters will play a bit but not quarterback Josh Allen and star receiver Stefon Diggs. Kyle Allen and Matt Barkley will split the quarterback duties. Both have struggled in camp as they battle for the No. 2 job. Allen probably is in the lead right now. One of the team’s big free-agent additions this offseason was Patriots running back Damien Harris, but he has missed a few practices this week with a knee injury and is in doubt. Harris is competing with James Cook and Latavius Murray for playing time. Pick: Bills.

The Titans will be without head coach Mike Vrabel. Sort of. In a pretty classy move, Vrabel is stepping aside for this game only and will have assistant head coach/defensive line coach Terrell Williams handle the head coach duties. Williams will handle in-game decisions. But Vrabel will still be with the team on the sideline. Williams joined the Titans as defensive line coach when Vrabel was hired in 2018. He was elevated to assistant head coach this summer. Williams has 26 years of coaching under his belt, including 12 in the NFL. This can only help him land a full-time head coaching gig. Vrabel told reporters on Thursday that the team has made a decision about whether Ryan Tannehill, Malik Willis, or Will Levis will take the first offensive snap before being asked if Willis would be that quarterback. Vrabel said it’s “not a decision we’re gonna share.”
Bears coach Matt Eberflus said that QB Justin Fields and some other starters will play in the first preseason game. “It will be some play time — a little bit in there,” Eberflus said. “But [how much] I’m not sure. We’ll have to continue to discuss that.” Eberflus indicated that snap count ranges will be determined for each individual and not position groups or complete units on the depth chart. Last year when Fields was learning a new offense, he started the preseason opener against the Chiefs and completed 4 of 7 passes for 48 yards on the Bears’ first three possessions before being replaced by Trevor Siemian. Pick: Titans.

New York Jets at Carolina
NFL Odds: New York Jets at Carolina (-3.5)

The Jets have a preseason game under their belts, losing in the Hall of Fame to Cleveland last Thursday, 21-16. New starting Jets QB Aaron Rodgers didn’t play and will not Saturday, either. Former starter and No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson started and was 3 of 5 passing for 65 yards. Wilson set up the game’s first score with a 57-yard completion to wide receiver Malik Taylor — on a play suggested by Rodgers. Greg Zuerlein kicked field goals of 54, 44 and 53 yards and Israel Abanikanda had a 10-yard touchdown run for the Jets. Wilson and Tim Boyle will handle the quarterback duties in this one. QB Chris Streveler, who played in the preseason opener, was released Monday.
The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft by Carolina, quarterback Bryce Young, will make his NFL debut and start for the Panthers – he already has been named the Week 1 regular-season guy. New backup QB Andy Dalton says Panthers’ offense is tailored to Young’s skill set. “Bryce is made up the right way. He’s done a great job since he’s been here. I’m excited to see how his career starts and everything he’s able to do this year.” Young, 22, grew up emulating the footwork and arm angles of the 39-year-old Rodgers, who on Wednesday worked on an adjacent field as Carolina and the New York Jets held the first of two joint practices. “He just opened that window, that door, for people to change arm angles,’’ said Young, calling Rodgers’ influence on his style “huge.” Pick: Jets.
