As we head into the holiday season, we are also approaching the midway point of the NHL regular season.
There are some teams that have looked very good this season and who are very much in the Stanley Cup conversation, but it is also worth remembering that every team is going to go through at least one poor patch of form, so don’t simply assume that the standings as they are now will look the same at the end of the season.
NHL Must Bet Games in Week 11 Analysis
While it’s still a dangerous time to be making long-term picks, we have certainly seen more than enough to be able to determine which games are the best on the schedule this week, so with that in mind, let’s take a look at the best games on the NHL schedule this week.
^Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers
Monday, December 16, 2024, 7:30 PM | NHL Net
What better way to start the new week than with a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Final. Both of these teams were seen by the bookies as likely to make another deep run, but have they lived up to the preseason hype? The Panthers ended last week on a slide, losing their last 2 games to fall to 6-3-1 in their last 10.
They are now trailing the Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division, albeit by just 2 points. The Oilers are in 3rd in the Pacific Division, but they are on the move after winning their last 5 games. Will this be revenge for the Oilers?
^New Jersey Devils at St. Louis Blues
Tuesday, December 17, 2024, 7:00 PM | ESPN+
We have a great battle taking place in the Metropolitan Division, with the New Jersey Devils right in the thick of it. They are 20-10-3 overall and have been solid of late, winning 2 in a row and going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. The Devils have been particularly good on the road, going 11-4-0 away from home.
The Blues are sitting a little too close to the bottom of the division for comfort, but they are also just 3 points behind the Dallas Stars in 3rd. They have gone 6-2-2 in their last 10 games, but going 6-7-1 on home ice is something of a problem.
^Toronto Maple Leafs at Dallas Stars
Wednesday, December 18, 2024, 6:30 PM | ESPN+
While the Maple Leafs have been one of the better regular season teams over the past few years, that has not translated into playoff success. They are once again doing the business in the regular season and are sitting atop the Atlantic Division, 2 points ahead of the defending champions.
The Stars are in 3rd place in the Central Division and have been a little inconsistent of late, going 5-5-0 in their last 10 games. If there is one good thing about the Stars, it’s that they are great at home, going 12-3-0 in their own building.
^Vancouver Canucks at Vegas Golden Knights
Thursday, December 19, 2024, 9:00 PM | ESPN+
We close this preview with a fantastic divisional matchup, with both of these teams in the hunt to take the Pacific Division. The Canucks are down in 4th place, 8 games behind the Golden Knights, but they also have a pair of games in hand, so a win here could make things a lot tighter in the standings.
As we just mentioned, Vegas is sitting atop the division and are playing great hockey right now, going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. They have turned home ice into a fortress, going 11-3-0 in their own building.

2021 Top Matches Week 11
Once we put 2020 in the rearview mirror, it felt as though life was beginning to return to normal. In terms of sports, fans were back in the seats and the disruptions and cancellations appeared to be a thing of the past. While not quite as bad as before, we are beginning to see some issues arise again in the sports world. That is certainly the case in the NHL, with the Calgary Flames seeing their games postponed until at least December 16 after they experienced a COVID outbreak that affected players and staff. They would have certainly been included in this list of best NHL games for the week, but we are now leaving them off until we know more about their situation. The good news is that there are plenty of solid matchups to choose from still. Let’s get to it.
NHL Betting | Top Must Bet Games Dec 13th Edition
Toronto Maple Leafs at Edmonton Oilers – Tuesday
It’s a loaded schedule on Monday with a lot of great games to choose from, but this was the one that jumped off the page for me. Toronto has gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and are tied for 1st in the Atlantic Division with 40 points. They will hit the road to face an Edmonton team trying to haul themselves out of a 5-game losing skid that has dropped them to 4-6-0 in their last 10 games. The Maple Leafs have done most of their winning on home ice, but they are a respectable 7-4-1 on the road this season.
Carolina Hurricanes at Minnesota Wild – Tuesday
The Flames were supposed to play Chicago in the only Monday game, so since that is cancelled let’s double dip the Tuesday schedule. The Carolina Hurricanes have cooled off a little of late and have been playing .500 hockey over their last 10 games. That said, they are still just a single point out of the top spot in the Metropolitan Division. The Wild come into this week on the heels of back-to-back losses, but they are still 8-2-0 in their last 10 and have a 4-point lead atop the Central Division.
Seattle Kraken at Anaheim Ducks – Wednesday
With the Flames now set to be idle for at least 2 games, the Anaheim Ducks have an opportunity to increase their lead atop the Pacific Division. They are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and have a 1-point lead over Calgary, although they have played 2 more games than the Flames at this point of the season. The Kraken are losers of 3 straight and finding life tough in their inaugural season. They only have 3 wins on the road right now, so you would have to like the Ducks here.
Colorado Avalanche at Nashville Predators – Thursday
The Avalanche came into the season as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup, and while a lot of people still like them to go all the way, they are in a tough fight in the Central Division. The Avalanche are 4th right now but just a single point back of the Predators in 2nd. Colorado has won 4 in a row to go to 7-2-1 in their last 10, while the Nashville Predators have win 5 in a row to move to 7-3-0 in their last 10. This might just be the biggest game in the midweek schedule.
