MLB Betting Predictions for the Complete Pirates vs Diamondbacks Series

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Arizona Diamondbacks will open up a three-game series at Chase Field on Friday. This is the final series for both teams heading into the All-Star Break for Major League Baseball.

Both teams will play late on Thursday, as Arizona wraps up their series at home against the Mets, and the Pirates finish their season in Los Angeles.

The Diamondbacks have dropped three straight games. Arizona blew a 1-0 lead in the 9th on Wednesday and lost 2-1. The Diamondbacks are now 50-37 but still in first place in the National League West.

For Pittsburgh, they dropped Wednesday’s game against Los Angeles. This loss came after a thrilling 9-7 win on Tuesday. The Pirates are now 40-46 on the season and in third place in the National League Central.

Check out how that will affect their MLB odds for this week’s Pirates @ Diamondbacks series along with analysis and free picks for all three matchups finishing on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Series: Friday, July 7th to Sunday, July 9th, 2023

Friday: Rich Hill (Pirates) vs. TBA

The oldest player currently playing in Major League Baseball gets the weekend going for the Pirates. Rich Hill, who is 43 years old, has been reliable for Pittsburgh with 17 starts. Hill has thrown 84 innings this season and picked up seven wins.

Saturday: Mitch Keller (Pirates) vs. Zac Gallen (Diamondbacks)

The pitching matchup of the weekend. Mitch Keller has come on strong this season, giving the Pirates some hope.

The 27-year-old is 9-4 with a 3.52 earned run average. Keller has struck out 125 batters in 110 innings this season. In his last start, Keller lasted just five innings in a loss to the Dodgers. Heading into the second half of the season, Zac Gallen is a potential Cy Young candidate for Arizona.

Also 27 years old, the New Jersey native is 10-3, with a 3.15. Gallen has 120 strikeouts on the season, to just 23 walks. In his last start, Gallen struck out 12 batters.

Sunday: Luis Ortiz (Pirates) vs. Zach Davies (Diamondbacks)

The final game of the first half of the season features 24-year-old Ortiz against veteran Davies.

Ortiz is 2-3 on the season, with a 4.86 earned run average. He made a start on July 4th in Los Angeles, and it did not go well. In fact, over his last two starts, Ortiz has lasted a total of 8 innings and allowed ten earned runs.

Davies has struggled this season and is 1-4, with a 6.52. He made his last start on Tuesday and lasted just 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and two home runs in a loss to the Mets. The Diamondbacks have lost all five of his most recent starts.

Pirates Up and Down in 2023

The Pittsburgh Pirates have seen big-time highs and very, very down lows. The biggest issue has been their inability to hit consistently.

Pittsburgh is 21st in runs scored and in the bottom quarter in home runs hit. Ke’Bryan Hayes is one of the top threats for the Pirates, but he has been out with a back injury since June 24th.

Jack Suwinski is the top home run threat for Pittsburgh. The young slugger from Chicago has clubbed 19 home runs on the season.

Arizona Loving Life

One of, if not THE biggest, surprise in the National League has been the play of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona saw Tommy Henry pitch a great game on Wednesday, but the bullpen was unable to hold the lead. The Diamondbacks are 19th in runs allowed with 4.7 per game, but the offensive side they are picking up the slack.

Arizona ranks 5th with 5.1 runs per game and 5th in team batting average with a .261. Corbin Carroll was named to the National League All-Star team and comes into the game just shy of .300 and 18 bombs on the season. Carroll had two hits on July 4th, and it’s his third multiple-hit game in eight games.

Good Weekend in Arizona

This should be a pretty good weekend of baseball in Arizona. The Diamondbacks are the better team, but the Pirates are scrappy. If Arizona is not careful, Pittsburgh will pull out a couple of wins.

Look for Arizona to play sharp and focused heading into the All-Star Break. The bet would be Arizona takes two out of three in this one.
