Series History

The Warriors beat the visiting Nets 124-120 on Dec. 16. Steph Curry scored 12 straight fourth-quarter points on the way to 37, while Klay Thompson had 24 points including back-to-back timely 3-pointers in the closing minutes. Royce O’Neale’s 3 cut it to 120-118 with 2:14 to play and Thompson missed a 3. Curry converted on a short jumper with 56 seconds to play and again with 17.3 left. He was 7 for 7 for 16 points in the final period. Cam Thomas scored 41 points on 15-for-24 shooting with five 3-pointers and Spencer Dinwiddie added 16 points and a season-best 14 assists for the Nets. Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson coached the Nets for four seasons (2016-17 – 2019-20).

Why Bet on Golden State Warriors?

Golden State had a two-game winning streak snapped in a 141-134 OT loss in Atlanta on Saturday despite a season-high 60 points from Steph Curry. He was 22-for-38 shooting overall, 10-for-23 from deep and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in 41 minutes. Curry posted the second 60-point game of his illustrious career, with Saturday marking his 24th career occasion with 10 or more triples.

Curry made a floating shot with 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Warriors a 123-121 lead. However, Dejounte Murray made a pullup shot with 4.6 seconds remaining to tie the score at 123-all. The Warriors had a chance to win the game but Curry’s attempt on a drive missed, sending the game into overtime. The Hawks scored 11 unanswered points to open overtime for a 134-123 lead with 2:23 left and didn’t look back.

It was Curry’s eighth career 50-point game after turning 30 years old, the most of any player in NBA history. Curry (35 years, 326 days old) became the second-oldest player to score at least 60 points, trailing only Kobe Bryant (37 years, 234 days old), who scored 60 points on April 13, 2016 vs. Utah in his final NBA game. In the fourth quarter, Curry tallied 22 points, the most he has ever scored in that quarter in his career.

Jonathan Kuminga had 16 points and has scored in double digits in 26 straight, a career high and the longest in a single season for a Warrior since Curry’s 56-game streak (10/18-4/9/23). Kuminga’s career-high 20-point streak ended at eight games as he fouled out with 1:06 left in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Brandin Podziemski logged 39 minutes off the bench on Saturday and finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Already in the rotation, Podziemski took additional minutes during the second half after Andrew Wiggins was ruled out with a sprained ankle. The 39 minutes matched a season-high for the rookie guard, who’s hit double figures in scoring in four straight and six of his last eight games. He has five double-doubles on the season, the fourth-most for any rookie in the NBA and the most for a Warriors rookie since Stephen Curry had 12 in 2009-10.

Led by Podziemski, the Warriors’ reserves have outscored the opponents’ reserves in 34 games this season and by a total of 1,936 to 1,475, a difference of 461. The Warriors’ 43.0 bench points per game is ranked third in the NBA, trailing Indiana (48.3 ppg) and Utah (45.5).

Wiggins is doubtful for Monday but Dario Saric has been upgraded to probable after missing the past two with an illness, and Moses Moody, who suffered a grade 1 strain of his left calf on Jan. 10 vs. New Orleans, is no longer on the injury report so he should play.

Why Bet on Brooklyn Nets?

The Nets won for the third time in four games Saturday, 136-121 in Philadelphia – which was without injured star Joel Embiid. Cam Thomas blew up for 40 points on 14-for-26 shooting, 5-for-11 from deep and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Thomas has surpassed the 40-point mark three times this year, with Saturday being the first time since posting 41 points Dec. 16 against Golden State.

“That’s Mr. 40 for you,” Lonnie Walker IV said of Thomas. “I mean, this is nothing new. … He’s a magician when it comes to putting the ball in the hoop. It’s like he puts a magnet on the ball every time he shoots that ball.”

Walker produced 20 points, three assists and two rebounds in 30 minutes as he continued his hot play off the bench. Walker is averaging 19.3 points, 4.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 29.3 minutes per game over his last three outings. He leads the league in ppg among all players averaging fewer than 20.0 minutes per game but his playing time is likely to take a hit in the near future. Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle) has missed all three of those games, Ben Simmons has missed one, and Dennis Smith (foot) was out Saturday, so when all three are available to play, Walker is a candidate to have his playing time squeezed.

Miles Bridges had 23 points and is fourth in the NBA in ‘clutch’ points (98), trailing only Stephen Curry (152), Damian Lillard (100) and Trae Young (100). Bridges ranks ninth in the league in total minutes played (1,684). He led this category in each of the last two seasons.

Nic Claxton had 12 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in the win. Claxton ranks ninth in the league in defensive rebound % (.244). He is sixth in the league in bpg (2.2) and is ninth in total blocks (83) and He also ranks 11th in rpg (10.5) and is 10th in orpg (3.0). Claxton ranks sixth in the league in FG % (205-of-322 – .637). He led the league in this category and set a franchise record last season (.705).

Across the Nets’ last three wins (1/27 vs. Houston, 1/29 vs. Utah and 2/3 at Philadelphia), Brooklyn has trailed for just 2:12 of game action (all in the first quarter of the Jazz game). Brooklyn’s two highest-scoring regulation games this season have come within their last three games (also: season-high 147 points vs. Utah). The Nets won Saturday for just the second time this season when surrendering 120+ points (2-19 record).

Brooklyn is 5-3 against Golden State since 2020 – a win would tie the Nets with the Hawks (6-3) and the Celtics (6-3) for the most victories against the Warriors among Eastern Conference teams in that span.
