This offseason few teams made as much of a splash as the New York Jets.
The Jets not only acquired wide receiver Mike Williams, but they signed left tackle Tyron Smith from the Dallas Cowboys and made a trade for Philadelphia linebacker Hasson Reddick.
Reddick, though, is a holdout.
Will that affect how the Jets perform in the regular season? The following games will determine whether Aaron Rodgers and the J-E-T-S take the next step to the playoffs.

NFL Week 1 at San Francisco 49ers
This is a huge matchup for both teams.
In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter so much because the Jets and Niners play in different conferences.
But for bragging rights, and to prove to themselves that they can hang with a quality opponent, both teams will be fighting hard for the win.
The 49rs shouldn’t lose their first game at home.
Then again, Aaron Rodgers has had enormous success versus San Francisco in the past.
Still, Brock Purdy and SF are looking for a return to the Super Bowl.
San Francisco wins.
On a side note, the 49ers are -5.5 favorites.

NFL Week 6 vs Buffalo Bills
Two great defenses and two great quarterbacks means Jets versus Bills should be epic.
Buffalo loses the game because of a simple fact.
Josh Allen’s top target is rookie Keon Coleman while Aaron Rodgers gets to throw to Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and running back Breece Hall.
AR has more weapons and it will show.

NFL Week 9 vs Houston Texans
This is a key game for AFC Playoff seeding.
On paper, few teams are going to beat the Houston Texans.
The hope if you’re a Jets fan is that by NFL Week 9, Reddick will have gelled with his teammates so much that he’s on the way to another 16 sack season.
Even if Reddick doesn’t step onto the field, the Jets have a good enough defense to cause the Texans fits.
This is one of those games where home field means something.

NFL Week 14 at Miami Dolphins
Last season the Dolphins started hot and then faded.
This season consistency could be in the cards for the Fins.
The key in this game is that it happens at Hard Rock Stadium where beating Tua and his mates won’t be easy.
The Jets will have already played great, winning game after game, up to this point.
So an NYJ loss versus a division rival on the road makes sense.
NFL Week 15 at Jacksonville Jaguars
Trevor Lawerence and the Jags are a solid club but Jacksonville is missing something.
Maybe, it’s on the defense where nobody has stepped it up to help Josh Allen.
Or, maybe, it’s with Lawrence himself.
Either way, Aaron Rodgers and the Jets should get the win.
The Jets have more leaders and the defense, although it doesn’t have as many name players as the Jaguars, is a more cohesive unit than Jacksonville’s D.
NFL Week 17 at Buffalo Bills
The Bills often fail towards the end of the regular season because Josh Allen tires.
2024 may be no different.
Allen only knows how to play a single way, all out from the first snap of the season to the last.
It’s amazing that he’s still in the league considering how he plays.
In any case, Rodgers and the Jets complete the sweep over the Bills.
The Jets defense is tailor made to stop Josh Allen and the Jets offense should roll all season long.
NFL Week 18 vs Miami Dolphins
This game could be the for AFC East title.
Miami will have a good season.
If the defense steps it up, the Fins could have a great season.
Tua Tagovailoa doesn’t play as well on the road as he does at home, though.
For that reason, the Jets should win the final regular season game.
The Jets are better than the Dolphins on paper.
NYJ ends the regular season with a win.

Not sure if you heard, but the New York Jets added future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason via trade and they still might add former Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook in free agency after he was released by Minnesota. Cook visited the Jets over the weekend and left without a contract but is still very interested.

With the possibility of second-year running back Breece Hall not being 100 percent healthy to start the season as he works his way back from a torn ACL, a veteran back would make some sense.
Even with such a massive upgrade at quarterback in Rodgers over Zach Wilson, the Jets might well be 1-3 or even 0-4 because their opening schedule has to be the toughest in the NFL. This apparently will not be a one-year thing with Rodgers, either.
“This is going to be a few-years partnership,” Rodgers said Tuesday, explaining his rationale for taking a historic $35 million pay cut in a newly restructured contract. Under his new deal, Rodgers’ salary cap charges are $8.9 million in 2023, $17.2 million in 2024 and $23.5 million in 2025.
He said he wanted to provide cap flexibility so GM Joe Douglas could pursue pricey players before the season (such as Cook) and perhaps at the midseason trading deadline.
Let’s break down the NFL odds for each of those first four games with Jets odds in them. New York has had five straight losing seasons against the spread, tied with the Jaguars for the longest active streak in the NFL.

Of course Aaron Rodgers’ Jets debut will come at home in the first Monday night game of the season. The Jets and Bills split last season with New York pulling off a 20-17 home upset in Week 9 as the Jets defense dominated. Zach Wilson threw a touchdown pass for Gang Green and Greg Zuerlein kicked a go-ahead 28-yard field goal with 1:43 remaining. The defense intercepted Bills star Josh Allen twice and sacked him five times. The stingy Jets defense sacked Allen 8 times last season overall in the two games and the NFL’s third-ranked pass defense (189.4 yds/g) held Allen to a 56% connection rate with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Allen also totaled 133 yards on the ground, averaging 7 yards per carry with 2 TDs. It will be the third-ever matchup between Allen and Rodgers. The Jets last opened a season at home in primetime on Sept. 11, 2011, taking a 27-24 decision over the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s the first road game of the season for the Jets and could be a Super Bowl 58 preview. Rodgers will face former Packers coach and current Dallas coach Mike McCarthy for a second consecutive season. Rodgers, who posted a season-high 146.7 passer rating in the Packers’ OT comeback win over the Cowboys in Week 10, played under McCarthy in Green Bay from 2006-18 and the two won Super Bowl XLV together. Backup Cowboys running back Ronald Jones will miss the game due to a two-game suspension. Not a big deal as long as No. 1 Tony Pollard is healthy.

The Jets rarely have beaten New England in the Bill Belichick era and last year was no different as the Patriots swept. At MetLife Stadium as this will be, the Patriots won 22-17. Devin McCourty had two of the Patriots’ three interceptions of Zach Wilson. New England’s Nick Folk kicked five field goals against his former team. Wilson was 20 of 41 for 355 yards and two TDs to Tyler Conklin along with the picks. Both New England and the Jets reportedly are looking at former Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott in free agency if neither team can sign Dalvin Cook, who has tried to sell his signing with the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets as a final piece to building a “superteam”.

Hard to believe they haven’t faced off yet but something always happened previously when the Chiefs and Rodgers’ Packers played to keep one of them out. This will also mark the Jets’ first appearance on Sunday Night Football since 2011. The Green & White have won their past four meetings at home against KC, but Mahomes is 1-0 against the Jets (2020). Wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr., who signed with the Jets in the offseason, spent the first four years of his career catching passes from Mahomes.
