The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway and we are heading to the second games of the first series. The race to the Stanley Cup Finals is on and who could be headed that way?
Coming into the playoffs, the top overall seeds from each conference were the Florida Panthers and the Colorado Avalanche. The Panthers won the President’s Trophy along the way. Where are they at odds wise with the first round started?
Let’s take a look at the odds of the teams that have made the Stanley Cup Playoffs so you can continue planning your bets against the Stanley Cup Odds.
Updated NHL Stanley Cup Odds | May 5th Edition
Colorado Avalanche +300
The Colorado Avalanche dominated the Nashville Predators in their first game of the series last night. It was over before it practically even started, with the Avalanche scoring five, first period goals. Each team scored one goal in the final two periods as Colorado won 7-2.
Mikko Rantanen led the Avalanche in points throughout the regular season but Nathan MacKinnon returned to form with a three-point night on Tuesday. MacKinnon is the heart and soul of the Colorado team and truly makes them special.
Colorado has been one of the clear favorites all season and all signs are pointing the right way for them. Darcy Kuemper performed well again in the first game, stopping 23 of 25 shots. The Avalanche defense really caused issues for the Predators in game one.
Calgary Flames +600
The Calgary Flames have jumped up the betting board to take the second best odds. Calgary did have the third best odds coming into the playoffs but after the game one win, the Flames have jumped up a spot. Calgary beat the Dallas Stars as badly as they could on Tuesday night by a score of 1-0.
Out of the Western Conference and in the Pacific time zone, the Flames have flown under the radar of many eyes this season. They finished with 111 points in the regular season, which was enough for the top spot in the Pacific Division.
Calgary got a very good first round draw with the Dallas Stars but Dallas did give the Flames some fits last night. This is a series we would be surprised to see go longer than five games.
Florida Panthers +650
The President’s Trophy winners and the top seed in the Eastern Conference lost game one of the opening series to the Washington Capitals. Florida led 2-1 after two periods of play but it was a three-goal third period that led the Capitals to a game one victory.
The defense seemingly forgot to show up for the final period of play. While they did lose the first game, do not fear because the Panthers are a very talented team who have been tested all season.
Toronto Maple Leafs +700
The Toronto Maple Leafs own the fourth best odds of the teams in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This could be the year that Toronto finally gets past the first round and makes a push for the Stanley Cup. If they can get over the proverbial “hump,” the Leafs are a very good team.
They cruised to an opening 5-0 victory in game one against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
