Bold Predictions Heading into MLB’s 2022 Mid Season

2022 MLB Season

When: March 31 – Nov. 2

The White Sox rally to win the AL Central Division

As of mid-June, preseason AL Central favorite Chicago is in third-place behind the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Guardians

Obviously, the White Sox haven’t played as well as so many expected. Both Lucas Giolito and Dylan Cease have ERAs under 4.00.

Lance Lynn has missed the entire season due to an injury, but is now healthy. Although 0-3, like Giolito and Cease, Johnny Cueto has a sub-4.00 ERA.

Once the White Sox’s rotation is one-hundred percent, Chicago will play their way to the top of the Central Division.

The Mets implode and the Braves take charge in the NL East

Max Scherzer is having another Cy Young type season, which is the main reason the New York Mets are in first place in the NL East. But as good as Scherzer is throwing, NYM has just a 4-game lead over the Atlanta Braves.

The ATL proved last year that they’re a second-half team. Max Fried, Kyle Wright, and Ian Anderson are dominating lineups. As of June 15, Wright has a 2.57 ERA and has struck out 80 batters in 73.1 innings.

4 games is nothing to the defending World Series Champions. Atlanta overtakes the Mets and wins the NL East.

St. Louis holds on to win the NL Central

The National League Central should come down to St. Louis or Milwaukee. Unless either team implodes, the Cardinals will have about a 2-game lead heading into the second half.

Most believe the Brewers overtake St. Louis. But Cardinals veteran starter Adam Wainwright has a 2.84 ERA, Miles Mikolas has a 2.60 ERA and almost threw a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 14, and the bats have been great.

Milwaukee will make a move. It won’t be enough because this St. Louis squad is much better than the 2021 team.

The Padres beat the rival Dodgers and win the NL West

Before the season started, the Los Angeles Dodgers were a +325 favorite to win the World Series. If you like LAD, you’re getting much better odds now than before the season’s first pitch.

L.A. is in a dog fight to win the NL West. As of June 15, Los Angeles and San Diego have the same .625 winning percentage. The Friars have a 40-24 record. The Dodgers have a 39-23 record.

Both teams are good at everything. The difference is that San Diego sends the best pitcher in the NL to the mound in Joe Musgrove. San Diego’s ace is 7-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

Following Musgrove in the rotation is Yu Darvish and his 3.35 ERA. Sean Manaea’s ERA is less than 4.00. San Diego’s stronger rotation is the reason they will win the division.

Houston ends the regular season with the best record in baseball

The Yankees are dominating. NYY has a 46-16 record. From May 31 to June 15, New York went 13-1 straight up in 14 games.

But although the Yankees look like the AL East winners, they should implode just enough for the Houston Astros to secure the American League’s top record.

Houston is 39-24, which means they’re 7 ½ games behind the Yankees for the best record in the AL. Ace Justin Verlander won’t slow down.

Verlander leads a talented rotation. Like always, the lineup is solid. Don’t be surprised when the Houston Astros overtake the Yankees for the AL’s best record.

Top Weekend MLB Betting Series to Kick of Second Half of the Season

Given the state of these two teams over the last few season, this great rivalry has lost some of its spark. The great news for baseball fans is that the hate is back again in a big way, as these two are once again battling it out for top spot in the AL East.

The Yankees probably needed the break that came this week, as they ended the first half on a bit of a skid. The performance of Aaron Judge in the Home Run Derby is sure to have him and his teammates fired up and ready to go, which they will need to be if they want to start making some inroads in the 3.5-game lead that the Red Sox have in the division.

There were a couple of surprise teams that performed really well through the first half of the season, perhaps none more surprising than the Minnesota Twins. They had the lead atop the Central Division for a good portion of the season before being passed by the Cleveland Indians, but at just 2.5 games out of first, they are still very much in the hunt.

Their second half is about to get off to a very tough start, as they need to go on the road to face a Houston Astros team that was about as good as it gets in the first half of the season. Houston, who are 60-29 right now, will be looking to pick up right where they left off.

The current world champions had a first half to forget, which went against everything that baseball pundits believed would happen. Most baseball fans believed that the Cubs would roll to another division crown, another 100+ wins, and potentially another World Series, but they finished the first half an unbelievable 2 games under .500.

The Cubs are not in a particularly strong division, though, and are just 5.5 games out of first, which is a number they should be good enough to overcome. The Cubs will start their second half with a tricky visit to Baltimore to face the Orioles.

TV: Fox Sports Sun (Friday) / Fox Sports Sun (Saturday) / Fox Sports Sun (Sunday)
Radio: WDAE 620 AM (Tampa Bay) / (LA)
Live Stream: MLB.tv
MLB Betting Odds: TBA

While all the attention in the AL East has gone to the Yankees and the Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays have quietly put together a solid run of games that has pulled them to within 3.5 games of Boston at the top.

Even if they are not able to make up all the ground in the second half, they are still a legitimate contender for a Wild Card spot, which they would have landed in with the Yankees had the season ended with the first half. Realistically, the only way into the postseason for the Angels is through the Wild Card.

They find themselves in second in the AL West, but they are 16.5 games back of the Astros, which seems like way too much to overcome. They are, though, just 3 games out of the Wild Card, so this series becomes a little more important than most.

Latest MLB Betting Trends

  • Rays are 4-2 ATS in the last 6 games
  • Angels are is 2-4 ATS in the last 6 games at home
  • Rays are 4-2 SU in the last 6 games
