TLR on the Hot Seat?

There have been a handful of managerial firings throughout the baseball season, and one that should be down the line is Chicago White Sox skipper Tony La Russa. The White Sox are now third in the AL Central with a 63-65 record and are five games out of a playoff spot. They also have been spiraling as they are 2-9 in their previous 11 games.

This feels like a move that should’ve happened months ago, but the pressure is on, and reports are that he’s under contract for 2023 as well. If you were as bad at your job as La Russa has been with the White Sox, changes would be made, so it’s only fair to assume he is on the hot seat.

Triple Crown Winner Injured

One of the greatest pitchers in our generation has been Houston Astros, Justin Verlander. He has been the front runner this season to win the AL Cy Young Award a year after undergoing Tommy John Surgery, but manager Dusty Baker pulled him three innings into his start on Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles with calf discomfort.

The injury occurred when Verlander went to cover first base and is set to go for an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. If he is going to miss an extended period of time, it could mean that the Astros have a chance of relinquishing the best record in the American League as they are currently 3.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees and own the tiebreaker for it as well.

Big Sexy Officially Calling It Quits

Starting pitcher Bartolo Colon has been one of the most entertaining pitchers to watch on a big league mound. Saturday marked the first New York Mets Old Timer’s Day, and one of the players called back was Colon. He played in the majors for 21 seasons from 1997-2018 and hoped on the Mets Spanish Radio broadcast to discuss his future.

“God willing, I would like to pitch a couple of games (with Águilas Cibaeñas of the Dominican Winter League) so I can say goodbye to the game of baseball and to all those Dominican fans because they deserve it.”

Colon donned a lot of different uniforms throughout his MLB career as he pitched for the Guardians, Expos, White Sox, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees, Athletics, Mets, Braves, Twins, and Rangers. He also won the 2005 AL Cy Young Award with the Los Angeles Angels. He is currently 49 years of age and finished his MLB career with a 247-188 record with a 4.12 ERA. Colon also famously hit one career home run at the plate, so thank you for the memories, Mr. Colon!
