Why Bet on Cleveland?
The Tribe have called up lefty Logan Allen from Triple-A Columbus. Allen came over from the Padres in the three-team, seven-player Trevor Bauer trade back on July 31. The 22-year-old will work in relief for the Indians down the stretch this season before transitioning back into a starting role in 2020. He entered the 2019 campaign as a top-100 prospect. Outfielder Yasiel Puig will be eligible to return from his suspension for this series opener. He served the three games Monday-Wednesday.
Shortstop Francisco Lindor is batting .387 (43-111) in the 7th inning-or-later, the 2nd-best mark in the Majors behind Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich (.407). Among primary Major League shortstops, he ranks 2nd in batting average (.303), T3rd in on-base percentage (.359), 4th in OPS (.884) and 5th in slugging percentage (.525) and hits (127).
It’s Adam Plutko pitching for the Tribe. Plutko (4-3) took the loss Saturday as Cleveland fell 4-1 to the Twins, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings while striking out three. Max Kepler and Marwin Gonzalez both took him deep, and with the Cleveland offense unable to solve Jake Odorizzi, that was one mistake too many for Plutko. The right-hander will carry a 4.68 ERA and 39:10 K:BB through 65.1 innings into his next start Thursday.
Plutko will be making his 2nd career start and 2nd of the year against the Yankees. He earned the win against the Yankees on June 8, allowing two runs on three hits and four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Plutko is 1-1 with a 5.47 ERA (16ER/26.1IP) in 5 road outings (4 starts) in 2019. This will be his first career appearance at Yankee Stadium.

Why Bet on NY Yankees?
The Yankees are 1-2 vs. the Indians in 2019. The Yanks are 29-22 vs. the Tribe since the start of 2012. New York has won 11 of their last 22 series since 2009 (11-6-5).
First baseman Luke Voit hit in the cage and took grounders on Wednesday. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said afterward that Voit could report to High-A Tampa or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre next week to continue his workouts and then begin appearing in minor league rehab games. The first baseman is trending toward a return around late August or early September. He’s been on the injured list since July 31 because of a sports hernia.
What has gotten into third baseman Gio Urshela? He’s batting .336/.379/.590 (110-for-327) with 18 homers and 64 RBIs this season. Among AL hitters with at least 350PA, he ranks second in batting averaged to teammate DJ LeMahieu and fourth in both SLG and OPS (.969). Urshela Is batting .294 with two strikes, the highest BA among Major League hitters with at least 300 overall at-bats. In 56 career games in August, Gary Sanchez is batting .326/.392/.716 (71-for-218) with 40R, 13 doubles, 24HR and 49RBI.
The Yanks counter with Masahiro Tanaka on the bump. Tanaka (8-6) picked up the win after allowing three hits and striking out four over eight-plus scoreless innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. Tanaka pounded the strike zone in Sunday’s matchup, firing 66 of 94 pitches for strikes before being lifted with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth. The 30-year-old right-hander bounced back from a poor showing his last time out, surrendering five runs on 10 hits against the Orioles (5.1 innings). Tanaka owns a 4.64 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with a 114:34 K:BB over 137.2 frames.
It is possible that the Yankees shake up their rotation and use Tanaka on Friday. If so, they would likely use a bullpen day on Thursday.
