NBA 2021 Season Opening Week Matches to Must Bet On

Written by on October 18, 2021

The NBA turns 75 years old this season, so expect some hoopla when the new season begins on Tuesday night, October 19. Last season is going to be a tough act to follow, as it delivered a ton of surprises, with the season ending in a Milwaukee Bucks title. The Bucks will, of course, come into the season with a large target on their back as the reigning champions, but can any team hit that target and take them down? That question is a long way off from being answered, so let’s instead focus on the opening week and talk about the games that look like must bet opportunities so you can wager against their NBA odds.

Brooklyn Nets at Milwaukee Bucks – Tuesday

What better way to open the season than by watching the champions begin the defense of their title against a potential Eastern Conference contender. The Bucks will be looking for the party to continue, while the Brooklyn nets will look to get back to playing ball after dealing with the whole Kyrie Irving vaccination issue this offseason. The Nets actually finished ahead of the Bucks in the standings last season, but it was the playoffs where the real separation came, this time in the favor of Milwaukee.

Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns – Wednesday

It is always interesting to see how a team reacts after losing in the Championship Series the previous season. The Suns were a bit of a surprise package in 2020 and looked to be on their way to the NBA title after winning the opening 2 games of the Finals against the Bucks. They then lost 4 in a row and now need to try and shake that off and rise again. They have a tough opening game against a Denver team that was in the hunt to top the West in the regular season last year.

Dallas Mavericks at Atlanta Hawks – Thursday

At the top of this piece, we mentioned that 2020 delivered a ton of surprises. The Atlanta Hawks were one of those, as they made a run all the way to the Eastern Conference Final before coming up short against the Milwaukee Bucks. They will be looking to take the next step, as will the Dallas Mavericks, who were a playoff team last season. This is an excellent non-conference game for both teams and one that should be fun to watch.

Phoenix Suns at LA Lakers – Friday

We have already spoken about the Suns and their run last season, and the fact that they are on this list twice tells you that they have a tough start to the season. This, though, is all about the Lakers and seeing if they can get back to the top after a rough 2020 season that was stalled by injury. The Lakers have loaded up their squad and have a bit of a dream team going on. That, though, is no guarantee of success, but they should be exciting to watch.

Memphis Grizzlies at LA Clippers – Saturday

The Clippers went into last season as one of the favorites to win the West and make a deep run in the playoffs. While they underwhelmed a little in the regular season, they did make it all the way to the Western Conference Final. The Memphis Grizzlies made it into the postseason in 2020, making it out of the play-in tournament before losing in the first round proper.
