Okay, let’s get down to business.

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Juan Francisco Estrada

Juan Francisco Estrada (38-3, 26 KOs) is 29-years-old and stands 5’4” with a 66-inch reach. The native Mexican has won two straight fights and comes into this title fight rematch off a convincing eighth round win over Victor Mendez in December where he forced his opponent to retire.

Reigning WBC junior bantamweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (47-4-1, 41 KOs) is 32-years-old and stands 5’3” with a 63.5-inch reach. The native of Thailand has not suffered a defeat since 2014 and comes into this title fight riding a 20-fight winning streak that includes a unanimous decision win over Iran Diaz in October.

Prediction

When these two met in February 2018 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, they staged one of that year’s most exciting fights and many fight fans were expecting an immediate rematch after Sor Rungvisai escaped with a majority decision win. While the fight failed to materialize until now, I like the value this matchup is offering.

While Juan Francisco Estrada is out for revenge and is three years younger than the reigning champ, I just don’t see Srisaket Sor Rungvisai letting his guard down against an opponent he knows is extremely dangerous and one that wants some payback as well. No…instead of the upset win, I’m going to urge you to back the champ for one huge reason. His punching power is off the charts with an insane 41 knockouts in 51 career fights. As a matter of fact, I’m going with the champ for the KO win simply because I’m expecting Estrada to open himself up to a power shot after getting a little too eager.

Pick: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai Via Eighth Round KO

Daniel Roman vs. TJ Doheny

These two fighters will meet in a 12 round clash for the WBA/IBF junior featherweight unification titles. Daniel Roman (26-2, 10 KOs) is 28-years-old and stands 5’5” with a 67.5-inch reach. He’s, rated No. 4 by The Ring at 122 pounds and won the WBA super bantamweight title back in September of 2017 by stopping, then champ, Shun Kabo via a ninth round TKO. Now, Roman comes into this affair riding a three-fight winning streak that includes a 10th round TKO win over Gavin McDonnell in October.

T.J. Doheny (21-0, 15 KOs) is 32-years-old and stands 5’5½” with a 68-inch reach. The southpaw champ stopped Ryosuke Iwasa via decision in August to claim the IBF super bantamweight title and defended it with an 11th-round KO of Ryohei Takahashi in January. Doheny has won five of his last fights via stoppage.

Prediction

There’s no doubt that Daniel Roman is definitely a talented fighter that can mix it up with any super bantamweight on the face of the planet. Unfortunately, he’s facing a fighter in T.J. Doheny that is just a bit better at everything and is definitely the more powerful puncher in this affair. I’m going with Doheny for the majority decision win in a matchup that looks like it could be one of the most entertaining fights on the entire 2019 docket.

World Boxing Super Series Semifinals

Kiryl Relikh vs. Regis Prograis

Kiryl Relikh (23-2, 19 KOs) is 29-years-old and stands 5’9.5” with a 67.5-inch reach. The WBA super lightweight champ has won two straight fights including a unanimous decision win over Eduard Troyanovsky in October.

Regis Prograis (23-0, 19 KOs) is 30-years-old and stands 5’8” with a 67-inch reach. The 140-pound WBC Diamond light welterweight champion has never been beaten in 23 career fights and comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Terry Flanagan in October.

Prediction

While both of these talented fighters have an identical 23 career wins and an identical 19 knockouts, there’s a reason why Regis Prograis is such a huge favorite in this pairing and it’s because he’s the more versatile fighter, powerful puncher and better defensive boxer.

Just prior to winning his last two bouts, Kiryl Relikh had dropped his previous two bouts via unanimous decision. With Regis Prograis finishing off six straight opponents via stoppage prior to his last bout, I’m going with the big favorite to win and cash in.

Zolani Tete vs. Nonito Donaire

WBA champion American-Filipino Nonito Donaire (39-5, 25 KOs) is 36-years-old and stands 5’6” with a 68-inch reach. South Africa’s WBO champion Zolani Tete (28-3, 21 KOs) is 31-years-old and stands 5’9” with a 72-inch reach. While Donaire comes into this bout off a fourth round win (retirement) over Ryan Burnett in November, he’s also alternated wins and losses over his previous four fights. Tete. On the other hand, has won 12 straight fights since suffering his last defeat six years ago. Tete comes into this bout off a unanimous decision win over Mikhail Aloyan in October.

Prediction

I wouldn’t think twice about backing the favored Zolani Tete in this matchup. Not only is he a half-decade younger than Nonito Donaire, but he’s also the more experienced fighter with more punching power, not to mention, he’s the far superior defensive boxer in this pairing. This one is going the distance, but Tete wins!
